结合阅读教学，唤起学生重视观察生活。只有懂得观察同作文的联系，认识了观察生活的重要性，才能做观察生活的有心人，才能随时随地捕捉到“貌不惊人”却又“异彩闪耀”的生活素材。不少范文，所写者小，所见者大。若能有意识地引导学生思索，就可以唤起学生对生活中的小事、平常事的重视。在生活中，有一些发人深省的小事、平常事，它不像独立鸡群的白鹤，让人一眼就看出它的高和美来。如不留心观察和分析，就会稍纵即逝、一闪而过。鲁迅先生笔下的《一件小事》，就是一个例子。必须通过对“一件小事”的深入分析，讲清“小事”不“小”的道理。要使学生懂得，只要重视观察，善于观察，只要精心选择，深入开掘，注意由此及彼，由表及里，小事也可以表现出具有现实意义的不小的主题来。《一面》《背影》等都是指导学生观察生活的极好教材。
