在从鲁昂逃亡吉艾卜的狭小马车上，主人公羊脂球是全车人侮辱的对象，因为她是妓女。一路上，战乱不断，没有人做生意、没有人愿意把自己的食物与别人分享。村子里的农民害怕自己仅有的储藏品被军官们抢得一滴不剩，商人们害怕自己好不容易敛到的金子不翼而飞，也早已远走高飞。车上的人们都饿了，但是他们找不到食物。

当天使断翼陨落在黑暗的人间，即使被玷污，心灵的圣洁仍是不容置疑的。就像羊脂球一样的，而现在的社会这样的人太少，更多的是自私贪婪虚伪的人，他们的人性实在太可怕了。

1、牛和蛙

2、蝮蛇和狐狸

盘缠在一捆荆棘上的蝮蛇，顺着河水漂流。狐狸在河边看见后说：“这船主与船倒很匹配。”

这故事说的是想做坏事的恶人。

3、马、牛、狗与人

宙斯创造了人，没给人长寿，却给了人聪明才智。在冬天，人给自己建造好了房屋，舒适地住在里面。有一天，天气异常库冷，还下着雨，马冻得再忍受不住了，便跑到人那里，请求让它住在屋内避寒。人说除非马同意把它的部分寿命送给人，否则就不让它进门。马高兴地答应了。不久之后，牛也忍受不了寒冬，跑来找人。那人同样地说，除非牛能把部分寿命送给人，不然就不收留它。牛献出了部分寿命后，被收留下来。最后，狗冻得几乎要死了，也跑来把自己的部分寿命送给人，得到住处。这样，人在宙斯所给的年岁内，纯洁而善良；到了马给的年岁，就吹牛说大话，自命不凡；到了牛给的年岁，开始干事业；而到狗给的年岁，便容易发脾气，动不动就大吵大闹。

这故事适用于爱发脾气的固执的老人。

4、孔雀和天后赫拉

孔雀向赫拉诉说夜莺以悠扬、动听的歌声，深深地打动了人们的心，使大家十分喜爱她。而她一开口唱歌，便遭到听众们的嘲笑。天后赫拉安慰她说：“但你的外表和身材是出类拔萃的。绿宝石的光辉闪耀在脖子上，开屏时，羽毛更是华丽富贵，光彩照人。”孔雀说：“既然在歌唱上我远远不及他人，这种无言的美丽，对我又有什么用呢？”赫拉回答说：“各人有各人的命运，这是由命运之神所注定的。他注定了你的美丽，老鹰的力量，夜莺的歌唱，乌鸦的凶征。所有鸟类都满意神所赋与他们的东西。”

这故事是说，人要接受自己的优点，也要接受自己的缺点，任何事和任何人都不可能十全十美。

5、核桃树

有棵核桃树生在路旁，结了很多核桃，路过的人们都用石头去打树上的果实。核桃树暗自叹息，自言自语：“我真倒霉，每年我给人们带来了果实却为自己招来许多侮辱与苦恼。”

这故事是说那些因自己行善而吃苦的人们。

6、行人与真理

有个人在荒凉的野外赶路，他看见一个女人眼睛盯着地下，独自站在路旁，便问她，“你是谁？”她说：“我是真理。”他又问道：“你为什么不住在那繁华热闹的城市，而住在这荒凉的野外呢？”她答道：“古时候，谬误只在少数人哪里，可是现在你无论到哪里都听到谬误。”
