端午节是爱国节，因为爱国诗人屈原在公园前278年的五月初五，在绝望和悲愤之下怀抱大石投江而死。屈原沉江后，古人将竹筒装米投入江中，万舟齐发，并以呐喊旗鼓吓退蛟龙，以此表示对屈原的尊敬和怀念之情。

端午节是防疫节。端午节前后是春夏交替传染病的高发时节，古人在端午节前后插艾叶，悬菖蒲，用以驱蚊蝇，净化空气。成年人还要饮雄黄酒和菖蒲酒驱蛇虫，小孩子要佩戴藏有朱砂和雄黄的香囊预防疾病。

端午节是体育节，因为人们在这一天要在水上赛龙舟。龙舟竞赛已经逐渐演变成了一项国际体育赛事，也起到了友谊纽带的作用。

端午节还是美食节，以为我们要吃可口的美食——粽子。人们浸糯米，洗粽叶，包粽子。花色品种繁多的粽子，可以让你一饱口福。
