The Dragon Boat Festival， also called the Duanwu Festival， is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar. This festival is to commemorate the death of QU Yuan， an upright and honest poet and statesman who is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a river.

The most important activity of this festival is the Dragon Boat races. It symbolizes people‘s attempts to rescue Qu Yuan. In the current period， these races also demonstrate the virtues of cooperation and teamwork.

Besides， the festival has also been marked by eating zong zi (glutinous rice)。 Zong zi is made of glutinous rice stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves. People who mourned the death of Qu threw Zong zi into the river to feed his ghost every year.

With the changes of the times， the memorial turns to be a time for protection from evil and disease for the rest of year. People will hang healthy herbs on the front door to clear the bad luck of the house. Dragon Boat Festival is a Chinese traditional festival. It falls on the fifth day of May in the lunar calendar. A day before this festival, my mother and grandmother began to make zongzi. This process needed a long time, because I could have them in the next day. Zongzi was very delicious. On the day of dragon boat festival, our family prepared for dinner after having breakfast. 激动人心的时刻到来了，我迫不及待地看着制作过程。首先，姥姥将一片苇叶卷成一个圆锥形，然后轻轻的将糯米填入圆锥的一半，再放入两颗红红的大枣，就像白色珍珠里面镶嵌着绚丽多彩的翡翠呢!接着继续覆盖糯米，填到快溢出来的样子，使馅料充满整个粽子，这样有利于后面的包裹。最后，按照螺旋的手法，从苇叶的另一端开始对折叶片，卷到最后时，只见姥姥留一点儿小尾巴，用棉线从底部成十字捆绑粽子，捆好不散，就可以上锅蒸了。

姥姥这番娴熟的操作，看得我是眼花缭乱，惊羡不已。我有些不甘心，决定自己也包一个胖嘟嘟的粽子。但是我的手有点小，苇叶没有包得很紧实，刚刚放入锅中，只听“哗啦”一声，糯米像长了腿一样，跑的满锅都是。我有些失落，姥姥却对我语重心长地说：“加油宝贝，失败是成功之母，总结经验!”于是我鼓起了勇气，小手紧紧的捆绑住粽子，一次两次三次，哇!我成功了，属于我的第一个粽子问世啦!我兴奋得手舞足蹈!

大约一个小时，粽子的清香缓缓的从蒸锅中溢了出来，我贪婪地嗅着这一丝丝，一缕缕的粽香，口水忍不住地往下流......

一到海边，早已有选手在等候，我和哥哥也体验了一场“龙舟”赛。首先每个人先找来一个泡沫艇，然后去有水流的地方，然后拿一根船桨，接着坐到艇上，用人的重量和船桨来掌握方向，以此类推，多找一些泡沫艇，新和以和小伙伴们去赛“龙舟”了。三、二、一，开始!我和哥哥一路过五关斩六将，三两下就打败了他们，然后我们去领奖时，发现，奖品竟然是粽子。
