As a chinese, I was really ashamed of having a little knowledge of dragon boat festival. Perhaps I was born in northern city, though my city is nearby sea, it has been built a U port which I can only see cargo ships and can’t see the sweeping ocean. 作为一个中国人，我对端午节有点了解真是惭愧。也许我出生在北方城市，虽然我的城市在附近的海，它已经建立了一个U端口，我只能看到货船和无法看到席卷大海。所以我从出生起就再也没有见过龙舟比赛。所以端午节只是吃“Zong Zi”的节日。当我还是个孩子的时候，我妈妈就做了Zong Zi。因为没有超市，我们不能从市场上买到成品。然而，现在，我们可以买任何东西在超市，所以我的母亲没有让他们了。端午节开始淡出我的脑海。

the 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar year is an important day for the chinese people. the day is called duan wu festival, or dragon boat festival, celebrated everywhere in china.

this festival dates back to about 2,000 years ago with a number of legends explaining its origin. the best-known story centers on a great patriotic poet named qu yuan.

the customs vary a lot in different areas of the country, but most of the families would hang the picture of zhong kui (a ghost that can exorcise), calamus and moxa in their houses. people have dragon boat races, eat zong zi (dumpling made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves) and carry a spice bag around with them.

As soon as I got up， my mother put on my purse and colorful thread on my hand. I saw my father holding two gourds. todays breakfast is zongzi and eggs. I ate a zongzi and an egg with relish， and two dates were used in the zongzi. Then Zhuang Zhuang came to me with eggs to create eggs， and I made it with a feeling of winning. after a while， I won， and I jumped happily.

The Duanwu or Dragon Boat Festival, generally celebrated on the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calender, falls on June 18 this year. It is one of the oldest festivals in China, with a history of more than 2,000 years. Legend holds that this festival is in memory of Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet during the Warring States Period.

In the celebration, you can enjoy a performance about that legend and watch live broadcast of dragon boat racing. In the meanwhile, varieties of Zongzi, an essential food for this unique occasion, are available, which take different shapes and various fillings. Come and join us!
