Before I came here, I can never imagine that I can learn so much knowledge

about other countries, which cant be got from my books in school. Three months

ago, I took my first class. Unfortunately, I felt so embarrassed, because I even

cant speak any words, though I know I really love English.

After that, I took some of my tutors advice and previewed the lesson that

I’ll learn. What’s more, in every class, I JUST try my best to say as much as

大家好!我是一个可爱的小男孩，今年10岁，个子中等。我喜欢的事很多：看书、打乒乓球、滑旱冰、下象棋、下跳棋、写毛笔字等等。

今天，我和妈妈专门去了牛街尽情品尝了甜香可口的老北京特色小吃。那里的小吃品种繁多，令人眼花缭乱，有艾窝窝，豌豆黄、糖卷果、奶酪魏……，哈哈!大家随我一起去品尝特色小吃吧! 我们先来到了“牛街洪记小吃店”。饭店里人头攒动，吃饭的人还真不少。各种美味食品琳琅满目，我和妈妈点几份小吃。一会，驴打滚端上来了。驴打滚是椭圆形的，表面是土黄色。我迫不及待地夹了一块驴打滚送入口中，哇!味道好极了!吃到嘴里感到黏黏的，里面居然还是我爱吃的豆沙馅儿。我问妈妈：“这么好的驴打滚是怎么做的呀!”妈妈告诉我，外面是用黄豆面，里面裹着豆沙、红糖。妈妈还给我讲了有关它的历史故事呢!传说清朝老佛爷宫廷菜吃烦了，让御厨给她做一道新菜，御厨自己创新把黄米面里放上馅做成了菜。菜做完后正要端上的时候，太监小驴正巧撞到了御厨，新菜掉进了黄米面里。御厨重新做菜是来不及了，他只好把掉进黄米面里的新菜端给老佛爷品尝。谁知老佛爷还赞扬说：“这菜真不错，名字叫什么呀?”御厨想，这是小驴儿闯的祸，随口就说叫“驴打滚”由此驴打滚才得名。哈哈!这个故事有意思吧!

接着，服务员阿姨又给我们端上了一份小点心，名字叫艾窝窝。艾窝窝长得像一只雪白的小兔子，圆乎乎的。艾窝窝的味道那是相当的好，里面有各种各样的食物做成的馅，有桃仁、芝麻仁、瓜子仁、青梅、金糕、白糖……。看着看着，我的口水都流了出来了吃完艾窝窝了，不知道下一道点心是什么?正想着呢，一个黄色东西放在桌子上。呀!原来是豌豆啊!豌豆黄外表是黄色的，皮看起来非常光滑，吃到嘴里非常爽口，甜甜的。

走出“洪记小吃店”，妈妈又提议带我去吃“奶酪魏”的奶酪。说这可是有名的宫廷小吃。奶酪魏是一个不大的传统风格的小店，走进去墙上贴着各种口味奶酪的图片。我们点了两碗奶酪，一碗宫廷奶酪，一碗是黄奶酪。我的宫廷奶酪是白色的，我用勺子挖了一大勺放进嘴里。哇塞!太凉快了，一直凉到了心底，如果在炎热的夏天吃上一口，那一定爽口极了。

因为肚子容量实在有限，我不能把老北京的传统小吃一一品尝。怎么样，大家也一定吃饱了吧!下次再跟随我一道品尝老北京小吃吧!

今年我9周岁，上小学2年级了。

Lying at the center of Beijing， the Forbidden City， called Gu Gong， in Chinese， was the imperial palace during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Now known as the Palace Museum， it is to the north of Tiananmen Square. Rectangular in shape， it is the world‘s largest palace complex and covers 74 hectares. Surrounded by a six meter deep moat and a ten meter high wall are 9，999 buildings. The wall has a gate on each side. Opposite the Tiananmen Gate， to the north is the Gate of Devine Might (Shenwumen)， which faces Jingshan Park. The distance between these two gates is 960 meters， while the distance between the gates in the east and west walls is 750 meters. There are unique and delicately structured towers on each of the four corners of the curtain wall. These afford views over both the palace and the city outside. The Forbidden City is divided into two parts. The southern section， or the Outer Court was where the emperor exercised his supreme power over the nation. The northern section， or the Inner Court was where he lived with his royal family. Until 1924 when the last emperor of China was driven from the Inner Court， fourteen emperors of the Ming dynasty and ten emperors of the Qing dynasty had reigned here. Having been the imperial palace for some five centuries， it houses numerous rare treasures and curiosities. Construction of the palace complex began in 1407， the 5th year of the Yongle reign of the third emperor of the Ming dynasty. It was completed fourteen years later in 1420. It was said that a million workers including one hundred thousand artisans were driven into the long-term hard labor. Stone needed was quarried from Fangshan， a suburb of Beijing. It was said a well was dug every fifty meters along the road in order to pour water onto the road in winter to slide huge stones on ice into the city. Huge amounts of timber and other materials were freighted from faraway provinces. Ancient Chinese people displayed their very considerable skills in building the Forbidden City. Take the grand red city wall for example. It has an 8.6 meters wide base reducing to 6.66 meters wide at the top. The angular shape of the wall totally frustrates attempts to climb it. The bricks were made from white lime and glutinous rice while the cement is made from glutinous rice and egg whites. These incredible materials make the wall extraordinarily strong.

Since yellow is the symbol of the royal family， it is the dominant color in the Forbidden City. Roofs are built with yellow glazed tiles; decorations in the palace are painted yellow; even the bricks on the ground are made yellow by a special process. However， there is one exception. Wenyuange， the royal library， has a black roof. The reason is that it was believed black represented water then and could extinguish fire.

Nowadays， the Forbidden City， or the Palace Museum is open to tourists from home and abroad. Splendid painted decoration on these royal architectural wonders， the grand and deluxe halls， with their surprisingly magnificent treasures will certainly satisfy "modern civilians".
