The Scarlet Letter attained an immediate and lasting success because it addressed spiritual and moral issues from a uniquely American standpoint. In 1850, adultery was an extremely risqué subject, but because Hawthorne had the support of the New England literary establishment, it passed easily into the realm of appropriate reading. It has been said that this work represents the height of Hawthornes literary genius; dense with terse descriptions. It remains relevant for its philosophical and psychological depth, and continues to be read as a classic tale on a universal theme.[6] Another consideration to note having to do with the books popularity is that it was one of the first mass-produced books in America. Into the mid-nineteenth century, bookbinders of home-grown literature typically hand-made their books and sold them in small quantities. The first mechanized printing of "The Scarlet Letter," 2,500 volumes, sold out immediately, was widely read and discussed to an extent not much experienced in the young country up until that time. Copies of the first edition are often sought by collectors as rare books, and may fetch up to around $6,000 USD.

《老人与海》的主人公是一位勇气可嘉的老人，他充满了自信，在一连八十多天没捕到鱼的情况下，还坚持出海，好不容易钓上大鱼，但鱼却拖动了小船，向远方驶去。老人毫不惊慌，在缺水断粮的情况下，他却没放弃，依靠一点水和捕到的一点鱼保存体力。好不容易，鱼显出了自己的弱点——鱼捕到了。但鱼血引来了鲨鱼。老人为了保鱼，奋力赶鲨鱼。最后鱼还是被吃光，但老人却受到赞扬。

我觉得老人的意志，耐性和勇气都来源于他的自信。他很相信自己的能力不然他早就放弃了这条大鱼，也不会让我们看到这样的一个不畏险阻，追求梦想的，充满勇气的老人呢?

看到他一个老人都那么对自己有信心，而且那么有勇气，我不禁想到了以前的我总是遇到困难就像退缩。

记得，有一次。上语文课时，我很想回答老师的问题，为了说话不结巴，我干脆把答案写在书上，看着一个个同学踊跃回答，我也想试一试。可才把手举起了一点。我突然想到，：我会不会答错?我犹犹豫豫，想了半天，也没把这沉重的手举起来，直到下课。

现在，当我读完《老人与海》这篇文章，我顿时开窍了你!这老人八十多天没捕到鱼都信心满满，相信自己一定可以应付大鱼;在面对众多鲨鱼，也从容应付!我怎么能不相信自己，没勇气呢?况且，我也没经过什么多大的失败呀!于是，现在我打算鼓起勇气，不在胆小!

读完《老人与海》，我总结道了一个大道：只要自己的条件不算差，就要对自己充满信心。信心就是力量哦!只要充满信心去做好自己，那你就是成功的，因为你克服了自卑。

别忘了，主人公可只是一位老人。大家都说，人老了，就不方便，并觉得离死亡近了。可主人公却不服输，他不就捕到大鱼了吗?尽管大鱼被鲨鱼吃光了，但他却得到了大家的认可了!他拥有了一颗自信，不老的心，他成功了!我感谢这本书给我带来的感触和启迪。

这个暑假我读了《老人与海》，这本书是美国现代著名作家海明威的代表作品。

故事讲的是一个老渔夫，年轻时身强力壮，很出色，曾经和一个黑人掰手腕，掰一天一夜，最后胜利了。到了晚年，他妻子死后，就独自住在海边的小茅棚里。

有一次他乘小船去打鱼，可连打了84天，一条鱼都没有打到，他不放弃，再次出海，这次打到了一条巨鱼，可这时他已经筋疲力尽，却来了一群鲨鱼企图抢走老人好不容易打到的巨鱼。

于是老人拼尽全力保护他的“战利品”，可到最后他并未保住完整的鱼，鱼也只剩下了一堆残骨。可在我看来，这堆残骨见证了老人不屈不挠的精神！老人与鲨鱼对抗中，就像当面他与黑人扳手腕一样——永不放弃，最终取得了真正的胜利！

这本书让我懂得了一个道理：一个人并不是生来就神威无敌和不可打败的，只有你尽全力，敢于面对一次次的打击、挫折，才能锤炼出一个人的铮铮铁骨！就能创造出与老人一样无敌的不败神话！

“一个人并不是生来要被打败的，你尽可以把它消灭掉，可就是打不败他。”圣地亚哥说。读完这本书让我更直观的体会到了这句话的背后的真正含义。

合上这本书，我的心依然沉浸在汹涌澎湃的大海中。它让我懂得了什么是坚持，什么是顽强。每一次，圣地亚哥的这句话，在我面对困难时，给予我莫大的勇气。

在浩瀚无边的大海中，一只小小的渔船正驶向远方，那正是圣地亚哥的船，它像一头金色的狮子，毫不畏惧地冲向翻腾的巨浪……

海风掠过大海，弥漫着一股血腥味，圣地亚哥掌控着船，拖着一架巨大的鱼骨，在茫茫大海中返航。这一次，圣地亚哥终于捕到了一条大鱼。这条大鱼引来了许多凶猛的鲨鱼，刚刚制服大鱼的圣地亚哥筋疲力尽，但是圣地亚哥为了保护辛辛苦苦捕来的鱼，与鲨鱼们斗了两天两夜，始终没有退缩。最后，大鱼只剩下一架残骨。

虽说最终的结果还是失败，但他在我的心中永远是英雄。一位英雄，就是不怕一切困难，顽强不屈。圣地亚哥在经历了84次挫败后继续出海打鱼，与大鱼周旋，与鲨鱼搏斗，可以说，他的经历谁都没有经历到过。可就这样一次次的挫折，磨炼了老人顽强的意志力，造就了一个不败的神话。

前几天，在新闻当中，我又看到了霍金，他与圣地亚哥有几分相似。霍金拥有异乎常人的头脑，17岁就考上了剑桥大学，21岁时得知自己患上了不治之症后，消沉过一段时间。医生当时预测他最多只能活两年，但两年后情况并没有比想象的糟糕。霍金充满了斗志，胸怀显得更款管，克服了重重困难，反而继续为人类的科学发展做出了杰出的贡献。在他的眼中，重要的是一个人生命的价值，而是他克服困难的意志力。

面对磨难，我们不仅要付出艰辛的汗水，即使最后没有成功。，既然努力过了，就不会有遗憾。这正是挫折搭成了一座通向强者的桥。人的一生当中，只要我们秉持一颗不屈的心，总有一天我们会踏上成功的道路，人生也会更加精彩!

一个站在精神之巅的英雄

假期来无事，我又重新潜心拜读了一遍《老人与海》，读时却不禁感受到颇多了，仿佛不是在阅读一本枯燥的书，而是在阅读一颗生动的心，一棵赤红的心，一颗跳动的充满激情的心。那是数年前我体会不到的，我的感怀也由此开始了。

精练的文字，配上扣人心统的叙述，即使篇幅不长的小说，也以成功地牵动读者的心。《老人与海》讲述了这样一个故事：一位圣地亚哥的渔夫连续八十四天没捕到鱼，被同行看成失败者，可是他坚持不懈，终于钓到了一条大鱼，大鱼把他的小船在海上拖了三天三夜，最终被老人杀死了，绑在船的另一边。老人在归途中一再遭到鲨鱼的袭击，但他人然斗志昂扬，像一个我斗士在大海这残酷的我斗场上顽强地民开搏斗，历经了重重艰难险阻。虽然老人捕的鱼在归航的途中只剩下了头，鱼尾和一条长长的脊骨，但丝毫没有削弱老人的坚强意志。

远涉千里，深入大海，为的只是一条鱼吗？说到底，人的真正胜利也只能是业的胜利。人在物质上无论取得多大的成就，都不能赢得我们崇高的敬意。只有精神和气魄的胜利，才使我感动，才使我和追随老人的孩子一样，为他的悲壮落泪。只要是人，就都会有缺陷。当一个人承认了这个缺险，这个缺陷并努力去战胜它，而不是去屈从它的时候，无论他能否最终战胜自身的这个缺陷，他都是一个胜利者，因为他已经战胜了自己对缺陷的妥协，他是自己勇气和信心的胜利者。老渔夫就是敢于挑战自身缺陷及自己勇气和信心的胜利者。从世俗胜利观的我度看，老渔夫不是最后的胜利者，因为尽管开始他战胜了大马林鱼，但是最终大马林鱼还是让鲨鱼吃了，他只是带着大马林鱼的骨架子回到了岸上，也就是说，鲨鱼才是胜利者。可是，在理想主义者眼里，老渔夫就是胜利者，因为他始终没有向大海、大马林鱼和大白鲨鱼妥协投降！

一个人可以被毁灭，但不以被打败，外在肉体可以接受折磨，内在的意志却是神圣不可侵犯。一方面倒下，恰恰是另一方面的站起，在一个宛如梦境的场景中，必定会出现胜利的结局，这是圣地亚哥的灵魂，也是他无论如何都不会倒下的精神层面。我认为，这才是伟大的定义。

老人外表平凡，内心却坚强敢。无论如何，没有人敢说他不够伟大，没有人敢说不是英雄。

英雄或许要有强大的肉体、令人称赞的作为、流传四方的美誉，但这些都不是最重要的，甚至可以说可有可无。一个英雄，便是拥有精神力量的巨人。所为的英雄者，敢为人之所不敢为，敢当人之所不敢当。所为英雄者，坚强刚毅，屡败屡战。他让自己成为一个永不被击倒的人，他在业领域没有失败的记录，也没有失败的预兆，甚至没有失败的概念。自信、坚持不懈、拼搏、一个老人的故事，一个英雄的启迪。

那我呢？或许我觉得，所谓雄雄离我太遥远，但是距离产生美，而美又是在我们身边的。我不是什么英雄，也许永远，永远不会是。但是没关系，我有英雄之志，这就足够了。我不会让我迈向成功的步伐停滞，也不会让我追梦的凤凰坠落。不屈服于困难，不低头于失败，脚踏实地的做事情，把不值得变成值得，把不可能变成可以。只有这样，我才告诉自己，我是最棒的、最成功的，像老渔夫一样永不言弃、坚持不懈。

浮想联翩之间，我才领悟到，所谓老当益壮，壮的意义是一个英雄的努力，他在现实中失败，却在精神上达到了巅峰！这不正是人们所需要的精神吗？

似乎不能用“善良”一词来形容一位渔夫，因为渔夫和猎人一样，手上往往沾满了血的铁腥味，他们乘着船，以渔网为镰刀，从而进行生命的首个，但是，有这么一位老渔夫，不一样。

书中的老人在一季未捕到鱼时，选择了独自出到远海，洗完能得到海的眷顾。幸运的，机会来了，这是老人有生以来捕到的最大、最美丽的鱼，然而又不幸的，海永远怜惜着自己孕育的生命，就这样，一条鲨鱼享受了老人不菲的成果，留给了他一副森白的骨架，一段惊险的回忆和一个残酷的现实。

无法想象，这么一个连脖颈上都刻满了年轮的老人，最后如何接受这个事实。他的悲剧不同于其他，或是永别，或是悔恨与撕心裂肺的痛，发生在老人身上的悲剧，是安静的，像海边的夕阳，暗红的金芒碎碎的在浅浅的波浪上跳动，安静的悸动中，夹杂着海水的咸涩，如此无奈的结局，正如辛苦弄好的花瓶，在上色的最后一环上却无意摔破了，散溢出淡淡的无奈。

有人说，老人想着这勇敢、坚强、智慧与执着，而鲨鱼则是贪婪、奸诈与狡猾的代表，其实，我觉得故事中的人物没有这么分明的正负面，老人拥有那些高贵的品质，这是无可厚非的，但是不论过程如何，他最终仍是拖着疲惫的身子，控制着抽筋的左手，忍受着因摩擦而流血的疼痛，回到了那个令人心酸的，只有报纸作为床铺，没有灯的小屋。老人和鲨鱼，即便是那条最后被蚕食了的美丽大鱼，都是为了生存，我们没有指责他们的理由，只是叹息，希望与梦想，就像美丽的，漂浮在海面上的泡沫，锋芒毕露的现实往往让他们石沉海底，而老人的希望，恰在其中罢了。他老了，命运女神走过去时，只会对他不屑地瞟一眼。

燃尽自己最后的能力与激情，追寻自己心中的目标，成败仅仅几海里，可也是这几海里，成为了梦想与现实荣耀的距离，从此以后，老人会被渐渐的淘汰，可能以后只有那永恒的海与海滩仍然记得，这里曾经有一个喜爱翠绿色玳瑁，同情远飞的小军舰鸟，感动于此雄飞与生死相依的老人。

还好还好，老人并不是一无所有，最后，海明威给了老人一个活泼可爱的男孩，虽然孩子仍有些不谙事，但这没关系，他会向老人学习，成为更出色的捕手，在大海上成为充满憧憬与活力的一簇火苗。

我今天读了《老人与海》这本书，它讲的故事令我非常感动。

老人在八十一天没有捕到鱼之后，他终于捕到了一只剑鱼。可是，在他回来的路上，他遇到了一只鲨鱼，他与鲨鱼搏斗一场，最后，老人失去了他捕到的剑鱼，他又空手而归了。

老人永不言败的精神感动了我，在他与鲨鱼搏斗时说：“你可以杀死一个人，但你永远不可以打败他”。老人宁死不屈的精神让我为之震撼，我又想起了司马迁，他也没放弃自己的生命，终于写成了《史记》；我又想起了张海迪，她瘫痪在床，但还是用吉它歌唱自己的人生；我还想起贝多芬，他双目失明，双耳失聪，却写出了9部交响曲……

我终于明白自己平常生活中，无论遇到怎样的困难都不能放弃，要坚持，这样才能成功。

当我阅读完这本书时，我体会到了读书的乐趣与想象的快乐。这本书把我带到了一个奇妙的世界里去漫游，同时也给我留下了深刻的印象。

阅读这本书，犹如踏上一只旅行的小艇，可以漫游世界，可以仰望旗帜，可以体会快乐。我也要向爱丽丝一样，做个对生活充满美好向往的好孩子!

大海像一只没有受伤的野兽，咆哮着，像一座大山向小船压来。船上的老汉也是为了他的大鱼与大海搏斗着，与鲨鱼搏斗着。最近，我借阅了《老人与海》，感到了一个老人自己坚韧不拔、勇往直前的宝贵文化精神。

我最敬佩的，便是那捕鱼的老人了。在他的身上，我挖掘发展出了许多都是金子作为一般的品质。他那勇往直前，坚韧不拔，不成功不放弃的品质，在我的脑海里已经留下了一个深刻的印象。他的勇往直前，更是让我记忆犹新的就是他为了提高自己的鱼，敢于进行面对这种可怕的自然环境灾难，以及让人闻风丧胆的鲨鱼群。他敢于积极面对这些事实，用他那清澈的眼睛、宽厚的肩膀，与勇敢的心擎起一片属于天空。当遇到金融风暴时，他与大鱼需要紧紧联系依靠我们在一起；可当他们遇到各种鲨鱼时，他进拿起木棒，不顾企业自身的安危与它们之间搏斗。他的勇往直前深深地感动了我。

书中的老人也让我想起了为我们中华人民共和国而战的革命战士。 秋瑾被钉穿的手指都沉默了，不透露一点信息。 除了她，还有成千上万的革命战士，他们为我们的国家付出了一切，他们是多么的勇敢，用自己的鲜血为我们的胜利铺平了一条血淋淋的道路，他们被刻在我的心里。

我们做任何事情，都要勇敢面对，因为勇气，是通往成功的黄金之路。

i first read this book when i was in my fifteens. and now i remember it just as well as if i had read it yesterday.

pride and prejudice is a chefdoeuvre.

my first impression of this story was from screen.

its long long ago, maybe before i can read english books. i dont remember which movie edition i had seen. but i was impressed by the music, the scenery and the costume. i was very favor of a section of music in its balls. its pretty brisk, liked a wonderful song of a bird. regarding to the characters, i liked elizabeth, the heroine,though i didnt think shes beautiful. but shes smart. however, i didnt pay much attention to the plot. i thought its so long that it made me impatient and bored. by now, i havent read the whole story in english or its chinese version, either. i owe it to my prejudice.
