但这次演练中也暴露出一些问题，主要是一些同学对此次活动的意义认识不足，总认为地震这样的灾害不会发生在自己身上，因而在避震时动作不到位，在疏散过程中缺乏现场紧迫感。同学们，我们都知道汶川大地震的严重后果，就应当明白安全疏散演练的重要性。大家一定要记住，这不是游戏，这是关乎每一个人的生命。希望各班回去之后要展开讨论，使安全意识、珍爱生命意识深入人心。

老师们、同学们，生命是世界上最宝贵的，它只有一次！生命至上，安全第一，预防为主！我们应该积极行动起来，防患于未然，每位学生只有学会自救互救知识，当地震真的来临时，我们才不会恐慌，才不会措手不及，才能够拯救自己，拯救我们身边的人。真诚地希望我们每一个人一生平安、幸福！

Without exception,everyone has to make choices in life,whether they concern

school,career,or love.While some choices are simple,one cannot avoid the task of

making difficult decisions.

Choices are often directly related to ones happiness.University

students,for example,face a hard and crucial decision upon graduating.Many

students have difficulty deciding whether to continue studying or begin

developing a career.Every individual is different,and one must take the factors

Last Qingming Festival,I return home to worship my grandfather.Qingming

Festival is a folk Festival.In the past,In the past, the Qingming Festival was

called "Arbor Day". But Today, Chinese visit their family graves to tend to any

underbrush that has grown. Weeds are pulled, and dirt swept away, and the family

will set out offerings of food and spirit money. Unlike the sacrifices at a

familys home altar, the offerings at the tomb usually consist of dry, bland

food. One theory is that since any number of ghosts rome around a grave area,

the less appealing food will be consumed by the ancestors, and not be plundered

by strangers.

With the passing of time, this celebration of life became a day to the

honor past ancestors. Following folk religion, the Chinese believed that the

spirits of deceased ancestors looked after the family. Sacrifices of food and

spirit money could keep them happy, and the family would prosper through good

harvests and more children.

In 2011, the greatest CEO of Apple company, Steve Jobs passed away. People

from all around the world felt pity for the loss of this great talent. They laid

down notes and wrote some comments on the blog to show their respect. Looked at

Steves lifetime, he did not finished college and started his career in the age.

Though he quit school, he would listen to another lesson that caught his

interest. He overcame the difficulty of being poor by earning money through

collecting bottles. His insistence and creativity brought him great success in

career, but later he got fired. He felt frustrated then he realized he could

start his another career. He bought an animation studio and now it is very

successful. The Pixar movie studio is popular around the world. Steves story

inspires the young people to fight for their dreams.

Today I am very happy, because today is not only "38" womens day, but also

my mothers birthday.

Early in the morning I thought, what to do for my mother? I thought to

myself, I didnt think of a way, so I went to ask dad. Dad said, "you can make

her a card or do something for her." So I decided to make her a card. I took out

a small piece of cardboard and wrote, "happy holidays and good health." Well, I

put the CARDS in my room.

I went out to help my mother mop the floor, my mother said in surprise:

"you dont even touch the housework, how do you have to mop the floor today?"

Ill just mop the floor and not answer mom. At noon, I put the CARDS in my

mothers room, and my mother said to me, "what are you doing in the room?" I

smiled at my mother and said, "its a secret."

At night, I said to my mother, "happy birthday to you, and I wish you a

happy holiday." Mother said: "today is my birthday I remember, today is what

holiday?" I opened my eyes to my mother and said, "today is march eighth

international womens day! Dont you remember? "I thought you knew it was for

you," I said to my mother. My mother took the card and looked at it, moved to

It is true that no one can goes on well all the time. We will meet some

difficulties now and then. The one who runs away from the test may be a loser

and the one who has the courage to face the challenge may make breakthrough. It

is important to have confidence, and never to be afraid of meeting difficulty.

When it comes, we should not run away. Regardless of the result, we will gain

precious experience and become stronger. My parents stand by my side all the

time, and they give me the confidence to fight. I am so thankful for them. They

My mother is sixty-three years old, and for the last forty year she has

been the village doctor. She has a small clinic that she prepares medicine and

treats small injuries, and also sells canned powder milk. Our house has people

in and out at all hours of the day and night. The villagers always like to come

to her clinic to see the doctor and to meet their neighbors, too. Almost all the

villagers come to my mother when their baby is due. My mother is very good at

predicting the day the baby will come. Sometimes my mother will not get enough

sleep if the babies come late at night or early in the morning. There are

special rooms for the mother and baby, and usually they stay at the doctors

house about twenty-four hours. We always like to see the new babies get their

first bath because they look so red and small. All the village people know and

trust my mother because she is such a quiet, kind, and experienced friend of

theirs.

My summer vacation of this year was very enjoyable。 I went to the

countryside to spend my summer holidays.It is very beautiful there。 there are

green plants， clear rivers， lovely animals kind people。 i spent two weeks

helping my grandfather do some farm work there.Iwrote down what happened in my

diary every day.

Besides that,I helped the children in the neighbourhood with their

lessons.I helped them read english improve their spoken english.Their parents

thanked me for this.

When memory began for me, my grandfather was past sixty-a great tall man

with thick hair becoming gray. He had black eyes and a straight nose which ended

in a slightly flattened tip. Once he explained seriously to me that he got that

flattened tip as a small child when he fell down and stepped on his nose.

The little marks of laughter at the corners of his eyes were the prodnct of

a kindly and humorous nature. The years of work which had bent his shoulders had

never dulled his humour nor his love of a joke.

Everywhere he went, "Gramp" made friends easily. At the end of half an hour

you felt you had known him all your life. I soon learned that he hated to give

orders , but that when he had to, he tried to make his orders sound like

suggestions.

One July morning, as he was leaving to go to the cornfield, he said :

"Edwin, you can pick up the potatoes in the field today if you want to do that.

" Then he drove away with his horses.

The day passed, and I did not have any desire to pick up potatoes. Evening

came and the potatoes were still in the field. Gramp, dusty and tired, led the

horses to get their drink.

"How many bags of potatoes were there?" Gramp inquired. "I dont know.

"

"How many potatoes did you pick up?"

"I didnt pick any. " "Not any! Why not?"

"You said I could pick, them up if I wanted to. You didnt say I had to.

"

In the next few minutes I learned a lesson I would not forget: when Gramp

said I could if I wanted to, he meant that I should want to.

Gram hated cruelty and injustice. The injustices of history, even those of

a thousand years before, angered her as much as the injustices of her own

day.

She also had a deep love of beauty. When she was almost seventy-five, and

had gone to live with one of her daughters, she spent a delightful morning

washing dishes because, as she said, the beautiful patterns on the dishes gave

her pleasure. The bird, the flowers, the clouds-all that was beautiful around

her- pleased her. She was like the father of the French painter, Millet, who

used to gather grass and show it to his son , saying , "See how beautif ul this

In a pioneer society it is the harder qualities of mind and character that

are of value. The softer virtues are considered unnecessary. Men and women

struggling daily to earn a living are unable, even for a moment, to forget the

business of preserving their lives. Only unusual people, like my grandparents,

manage to keep the softer qualities in a world of daily struggle.

Such were the two people with whom I spent the months from June to

September in the wonderful days of summer and youth.

All the people want to stay in good health. Health is better than wealth.

It is true that health is the first step to success. Imagine this, if you’re

sick, all you can do is to stay in bed and do nothing at all, how can you chase

after your dreams?But if you’re in good health, you can overcome the adversities

you ever encounter and make your dreams come true. Since health is so important

for everybody, how can we maintain and enhance our health? There are some useful

suggestions:

First of all, we should lead to a regular life. Early to bed and early to

rise makes a healthy man. Do not stay up late. Some people love to play cell

phones games or reading electronic-books before sleep, this can be bad for the

health. We should remember to turn off the phones before sleep. Second, don’t be

too particular about food. Try to eat more fruit and vegetables and less sugars

and soft drinks. If you want to eat a bar of chocolate, eat an apple instead. If

you want to drink milk tea or coffee, drink water instead. Don’t eat too much

meat in one week. Last but not least, we should do exercise everyday. There are

many exercises for us to choose. Such as, swimming, jogging, square dancing,

playing badminton and so on. Doing exercise can increase the circulation of

blood and enhance our immune system. The one who in better immune system, the

less disease he will have.

In conclusion, if we pay close attention to our health, we can avoid

getting sick. Try to sleep earlier, eat more fruit and vegetable, drink more

water, and do exercise everyday. You will realize that it’s not that hard to

stay in good health.

Chinas national flag flies at half-mast after the flag-raising ceremony on Tiananmen Square in Beijing Monday morning, May 19, 2008. China on Monday begins a three-day national mourning for the tens of thousands of people killed in a powerful earthquake which struck the countrys southwest on May 12.

The State Council, the Cabinet, yesterday ordered flags to be flown at half-mast and all public entertainment suspended for three days as the country begins an official mourning period for victims of the earthquake.

Condolence books will be opened at the Foreign Ministry and Chinese embassies and consulates around the world.

People are asked to stand in silence for three minutes from 2:28 pm today, while automobiles, trains, and ships will sound their horns or sirens.

Also, the Olympic torch relay will be suspended till Wednesday, organizers said.

Meanwhile, the magnitude of last Mondays quake was yesterday revised from 7.8 to 8 by the China Seismological Bureau.

The death toll from the powerful earthquake rose to 32,477 nationwide as of 2 pm yesterday, while the number of injured reached 220,109, according to the emergency response office of the State Council.

Rescuers yesterday pulled out more survivors. A woman worker of the local power plant was rescued last night in Yingxiu town, Sichuan province, 150 hours after the quake. The rescue team spent 56 hours saving Yu Jinhua.

Yesterday afternoon, a 53-year-old man was also rescued in Yingxiu, 148 hours after the tremor. The man, Shen Peiyun, was conscious and was taken to hospital by helicopter.

In the morning, a man named Tang Xiong was rescued from a collapsed hospital in Beichuan county 139 hours after the quake.

Also in Beichuan, another man was rescued Saturday night from a collapsed building. Wu Jianping was then taken to hospital.

China is the biggest family with 56 ethnic groups. Among them, the Han

Chinese is the largest and the most highly developed group. The Han Chinese can

be found in many parts of China. They mainly live in the north plain region, the

middle and the lower reaches of Yangze River and Pearl River Deltas. The other

55 groups are the minority ethnic groups. They are distributed in the

mountainous areas of southwest and northwest of China.

Being too far away from big cities, the minority ethnic groups are poor in

economy and there people are not well-educated. They have very few

understandings of science and technology. So they must develop their

economy.

To help the people of the minority ethnic groups live better, the

government should take some effective measures. For one thing, more and more

knowledgeable undergraduates should be encouraged to those poor areas to help

the people there to get rid of their poverty. For another, the advanced science

and technology must be introduced into the minority ethnic groups to improve

their living conditions. More importantly, people of the minority ethnic groups

should be given equal opportunities to study and work. Only so will China be

On March 8th, 1975, the United Nation started to celebrate the

International Women’s Day. In China, the women’s day also called “March 8th”day.

Why we celebrate women’s day? There is a long story.

On March 8th, 1909, the Women’s Union of Chicago demonstrated against the

inequality between men and women. They demanded that they should have the same

payments, the same working hours as men had, and they should have the rights to

vote. They even put forward a slogan: Bread and Rose, which stood for equal

Demark, in order to promote the women’s liberation and equal rights, the council

members decided to establish the Women’s Day on March 8th. Then March 8th, 1911

just became the first Women’s day.

In our country, during the women’s day, the women usually have a day-off

holiday. The communities or companies will organize the recreational activities

such as a spring outing, a nice dinner and some extra welfare. On this special

day, the women can really realize that a woman’s value is not only giving birth

to a child, doing endless housework, but also find her own status in the modern

society. That is she can make a different. She can do everything that a man can

因为各种自然因素，特别是各种人为破坏，自然灾害的发生愈加频繁。它的每一次发生，都会给我们带来不可估量的损失和伤害，这无时无刻不牵动着我们的心。

自然灾害是可怖的，如2008年的汶川大地震。

2008年5月12日14时28分04秒，令人心痛的一幕发生了：大地开始颤抖;水杯开始学会跑步并跑到了桌角，掉在地上摔了个粉碎;房屋也开始摇晃起来。人们都清楚地意识到——地震来了。

人们开始慌张起来，开始到处寻找可以躲避的地方。然而几分种后，地震这个恶魔像发了疯似的，把大地撕扯得四分五裂。各处房屋在一瞬间倒塌，夺走了不计其数的的生命。

虽然地震等自然灾害给人们带来的伤害是惨痛的，但是这也并不是说自然灾害是完全不可以避免的。人们为了减少各种自然灾害给我们带来的财产损失，特别是生命的损害，已经做出了各种可取、有效的措施，例如防洪建堤。

自古以来，洪水就是人们的天敌之一，它淹没田地、房屋，并夺走多少人的生命。洪水是一只无法驯服的野兽，一旦暴怒起来，对人们的伤害将不可估量。可人们也找到了应对的办法—修筑大堤，开沟修渠。人们无法驯服这头野兽，就修起了围墙，把它拦起来，再进行合适的疏导。这种做法大大减小了洪水带给人们的伤害。

在中国人眼中，日本人总是笨拙的，但他们身上就没有值得我们借鉴的东西吗?这种认识当然是错误的，值得我们借鉴的东西当然有。日本是一个“多震国”，地震无疑是他们最大的敌人。为了更好地生活，日本的先民对他们的房屋进行了改造，使得地震对他们的影响大大减小。这种技术值得全球人民借鉴和使用。

尽管人们已经采取了各种措施，但自然灾害总是不可完全避免的，人们对有些自然灾害还是显得措手不及。可在人们的共同努力下，人们也克服了许多困难，人们把水运到干旱地区，解决了干旱地区的生活用水问题;同时，人们又到洪涝地区帮助修建大堤，减小了洪水对人们的伤害，改善了洪涝地区人们的生活。

My summer holiday begun on July 7th.I love summer holiday because I dont

have to go to school and I can enjoy myself with my friends.I often spend the

mornings doing my homework.And I always watch TV in the afternoon at home

because its very hot outside.And in the evening,I go swimming with my family

and then hang out with my friends.I love swimming very much.

My plan for August is travelling.I travel with my family every summer

holiday.I like travelling because I can go to different places and meet

different people.Sometimes I make good friends during the journey.And its very

sad to say goodbye to them when the journey ends.

dark green leaves,very smooth,negative light green,because there are many

prominent veins and coarse stems.Holly leaves have wavy lines on the edge of the

The campus,red maple,holly green,a passionate,full of vitality,this is

really the mental outlook of our young pioneers it!I love autumn,I love the fall

on campus.

Behind every great achievement in anyones life lies perseverance. We see

this in every human endeavor. Outstanding sportsmen spend all their time

practising. Their endurance is beyond imagination.

The same is true of businessmen who build up fortunes. What we usually see

are their achievements, but once we go behind the scenes we will find that they

have put in a lot of continual steady efforts. We all have read of great

musicians, writers and inventors who have created or discovered breakthroughs in

human achievement. Invariably they have said that they owe all their success to

perseverance. As to college students, quite a big number of then, have become

successful language learners through perseverance, however, a certain group of

them, just stop half way and their previous efforts turn out to be

fruitless.

Of all the countless examples the saga of Colonel Saunders is perhaps one

of the most outstanding. The 65-year-old man from Kentucky had a dream to start

a chain of fried chicken restaurants all over the world. To realize his dream,

he knew that he needed a restaurant owner to go into partnership with him to

open the first restaurant and to fry chicken according to the secret recipe he

had. Colonel Saunders had knocked on 1008 doors before he finally found his

partner. It is doubtful whether many of us would have had the perseverance to

knock even a hundred doors.

From the above discussion we can draw a conclusion that success comes to

anyone who keeps working perseveringly and lack of perseverance can only result

in frustration and failure.

Last weekend, On Saturday morning I got up at 6;30. After breakfast I did

my homework at home.

In the afternoon , I played football with my friends on our playgroud. In

the evening I watched TV with my parents at home.

On Sunday morning I went to visit my grandparents with my mother. In the

afternoon I went to go fishing with my grandpa. We had a good time . I went back

home with my mother in the evening. What a wonderfu weekend !

Every year, my school holds sports meeting in about October, I am very

exciting about it, I can watch the wonderful game and don’t have class. My

school’s sports meeting lasts three days, the class is suspended, all the

students go to the play ground to watch the game. As an audience, I am so

nervous and yell out “come on” to my classmate, watching they get to the final

line, I am so proud of them. The part I like most is relay race, that is so

exciting, all the students yell loudly, the athletes chase one by one, nobody

can be sure who is the champion until the last minute. Sports meeting bring me

so many beautiful memories.

It was a very busy evening. I was doing my homework at my home. My father was writing a composition in the study room. My mother was interested in Shanghai opera. She was watching a Shanghai opera contest. The apartment was very quiet. Suddenly the light went out. It was a blackout, but I liked it very much. It came and I didn’t have to do my homework. We went to the living room very slowly. After 5 minutes, we all sat in the sofa. It was a lucky, fortunate day. I said that let’s held a concert. My parents agreed with me. Mobilize是一个平时不太常用的单词，但是此次四川地震灾难发生之后，全世界对于中国政府mobilize抗震救灾力量的效率给予了好评，我们也可以对mobilize有一个全新的认识与了解。中国政府此次动员的抗震救灾力量主要来自军警，上述文字中的paramilitary troops就是“准军事部队”的意思，也就是警察，包括武警。Paramilitary是西方国家通常用来表达警察和武警部队的英语词汇，在我国的汉英词典中，“武警”的译文通常是armed police，但这个表达远不如paramilitary在英语国家中用的普遍。中国政府此次出动的抗震救灾力量中除了军人之外还有大量武警、森林警察、消防警察和普通公安干警，这些警力在英语中可以统称为paramilitary troops。Buckled roads就是“阻挡道路”的意思，其中buckle这个单词在这里使用得十分生动形象，因为“阻挡道路”我们一般是表达为block road的，而buckle的意思是“使扭曲”，“使弯曲”，“使变形”，对于在汶川地震中毁坏的公路来说，buckle这个词显然是再形象不过的了，因为那里遭到毁坏的公路确实扭曲断裂变形了，这一点我们从电视上都看到了。triggered mountain landslides就是“引发山体滑坡”的意思，其中的mountain landslide就是“山体滑坡”的意思，slide属于美国英语用法，指的是(土、石、雪等的)崩落，崩塌。常见派生用法有landslide(山崩，滑坡，塌方)，mud slide就是“泥石流”。Trigger这个词用在这里也十分形象，因为它通常表示由于外来力量的作用而造成的某种后果。在美联社的另外一篇报道中，“引发”的英语对应词汇用的spark，其释义与trigger相似，如A strong aftershock sparked landslides near the epicenter of this weeks powerful earthquake Friday, burying vehicles and again cutting off ravaged areas of central China. 我们抗震救灾中所急需的各类“救灾物资”就是relief supplies。说到与“救”相关的词汇，我们的广大英语学习者往往会条件反射想到save这个英语单词，其实不然，在各种灾难救援行动中，rescue是一个更常用的词汇，下文的rescuers就是“救援人员”的意思，而“救援行动”本身在英语中就是relief。“救援人员”还可以表达为relief workers，如美联社的这篇报道中就提到了以下一句话：Relief workers said food, water and tents were urgently needed. 上文中的worst-hit areas指的就是此次地震灾害中受灾最严重的地区，比如说汶川，北川和青川等地。

此次汶川地震造成的严重后果之一就是大量人员、尤其是正在学校上学的孩子们被掩埋在建筑物坍塌之后的废墟之中，在表示“废墟”的时候，英语中通常使用debris和rubble这两个单词。如美联社的这篇报道提到：Rescuers saved a child from the debris of a school in the town of Beichuan 80 hours after the quake struck. They said they could hear weak calls for help from amid the rubble, Xinhua said.其中，debris所涵盖的范围比rubble更广泛，它可以泛指一切物体解体之后形成的碎片或者残骸，比如说飞机发生空难之后的残骸the debris of a plane，又如，The beach was littered with debris(海滩上到处都是残骸)。必须指出的是，debris是不可数名词。相对而言，rubble用在此次地震灾难的报道中就更加具有针对性，因为它表示(被毁的建筑物或墙壁)的碎石，碎砖，瓦砾，而汶川地震之后大量人员就是被掩埋在rubble之中的。Rubble同样也是不可数名词。此外，表示“倒塌的建筑物”时候，英语还经常使用ruin，它是可数名词，因此更经常使用ruins这个复数形式，其搭配介词是in。如美联社的这一报道说：Two girls held handsin the ruins of their school and swore to each other they would not give up hope, Xinhua said.又如，Elsewhere, rescuers were still finding survivors after being buried in rubble for 96 hours… 在词语搭配方面，除了ruin之外，rubble和debris的搭配介词也都是in，如buried in the rubble/debris就是“被掩埋在废墟/瓦砾之中”的意思。如果表达“被困”在废墟之中，那么，这时候的相应单词就是trap，其完整的词组表达就是英语被动式be trapped in the debris。如美联社的报道说： A Chinese state news agency says rescuers have pulled a student to safety afterbeing trapped for 80 hours in the debris of a school following this weeks massive earthquake.地震中的遇险人员在遭到掩埋之后必定会呼救，这时候的对应英语表达除了上文提到的call for help之外还可以是yell for help，如美联社报道说：Xinhua News Agency said Friday that rescuers could still hear weak yells for help from the collapsed building in Beichuan in the northern part of Sichuan and hope to rescue more students.

汶川大地震造成的灾难性后果之一就是许多学校的教学楼坍塌了，此次我国媒体报道的时候使用的词语叫做“垮塌”，在英语中，无论是坍塌还是垮塌，其实都是一个词，即collapse，既是名词，也是动词，还是美联社的同一篇报道中提到：In the town of Dujiangyan, a school collapse buried 900 students. In Wufu, nearly every building in the village withstood the quake but for a primary school, whose collapse killed some 300 students. 又如，美联社新闻说，Experts said hope was quickly fading for anyone still caught in the wreckage of homes, schools, offices and factories that collapsed in the magnitude-7.9 quake, the most powerful in three decades in quake-prone China.房屋collapse的后果就是被夷为平地，而英语中表示“夷为平地”的对应说法是flatten，如美联社报道说The magnitude 7.9 quake flattened houses, schools and offices the southwestern province of Sichuan. In Hanwang, the towns mostly older buildings were flattened or severely damaged by the quake.

此次地震造成大量人员不幸遇难，让我们无不为之揪心，但这又是无法回避的事实。为此，党中央和国务院紧急强调，在抗震救灾进入第二阶段之后，随着死亡人数的增加和气温的升高，震区防疫就成为工作重点。为严防灾区传染病流行，卫生部防疫队5月15日进驻灾区。这里提到的“防疫”就是epidemic prevention，其中的epidemic是“流行病”，“传染病”的意思，在这里指的是“疫情”。如美联社的这一报道说：There were concerns about epidemics if the dead were not soon buried or cremated. 这个句子中的cremate是人死亡之后进行火化处理的意思。为了更好地应对震区可能出现的疫情，卫生部下发了通知，美联社的报道说：The Ministry of Health issued a notice ordering bodies to be cleaned where they were found and buried as soon as possible, far from water sources and downwind from populated areas.

此次惨烈的大地震造成了数以万计的居民遇难，而且死亡人数还在不断攀升。天灾人祸中的死亡总数，英语中叫做death toll，如美联社报道说The emergency headquarters of the State Council, Chinas Cabinet, said the confirmed death toll had reached 19,509 — up more than 4,500 from the day before. The council said deaths could rise to 50,000, state media reported.上文的意思是，国家抗震救灾总指挥部宣布，截止5月15日，确认的死亡人数已达到19509人，但最终遇难人数可能上升到5万人。

地震造成的直接后果是无数人死伤和无数房屋建筑被毁，但是，地震还可能造成伴随而来的“次生灾害”，对此党中央和国务院十分重视，及时做出应对部署，以避免次生灾害对人民生命财产的再次损害。美联社报道说：Even though aftershocks had mostly abated, the risk of secondary damage remained. Chinas Ministry of Land and Resources warned heavy rains — forecast for the next few days — would likely set off new landslides in the mountainous disaster zone, where many workers were busy extracting victims and recovering bodies.上文中的secondary damage就是“次生灾害”，而aftershocks had mostly abated指的是余震已经减弱。 5月20日下午，中共中央政治局常委、国务院总理、国务院抗震救灾总指挥部总指挥温家宝主持召开总指挥部第11次会议时就强调切实做好受灾群众安置工作，防范次生灾害。

与地震相关的其他词语还包括地震的“震级”，“震中”，“地震强度”、“余震”等等，如美联社报道说，A major earthquake measuring 7.8 Richter Scale jolted Wenchuan County of Southwest Chinas Sichuan province at 2:28 p.m. on Monday.其中的measuring 7.8 Richter Scale就是“里氏7?8级”的意思，其中的measure还可以表达为register。A major earthquake of 7.8-magnitude shook Chinas Sichuan province on Monday, the US Geological Survey said. 其中的magnitude就是表示地震的强度。Roads to the epicenter were closed due to damage caused by the 7.8-magnitude quake, and the situation was making rescue efforts difficult even 48 hours after the deadly quake.这里的epicenter指的就是地震的“震中”，此次川西北大地震的震中就位于汶川县的映秀镇。又如，A strong aftershock sparked landslides near the epicenter of this weeks powerful earthquake Friday, burying vehicles and again cutting off ravaged areas of central China. Aftershock就是“余震”，上文已提及。而“地震”除了表达为earthquake及其缩略形式quake之外还可以说temblor，这是美国英语中用来表示“地震”的单词。此外，由于此次地震造成的伤亡后果十分惨重，因此在修饰性词汇方面，英语中用了多个不同单词，如massive/powerful/devastating/deadly/killer earthquake。
