Deep Wounds of the Sichuan Quake

One of the recurring themes from last years earthquake in Sichuan is official corruption and the extent it contributed to the collapse of substandard schools, killing a still unknown number of children. Another, less discussed issue, is the degree to which many local officials in the disaster zone were victims themselves.

自去年四川地震以来，一个反复出现的主题是关于政府官员的腐`败，以及因之产生的未达标学校的倒塌，导致仍不知确切数字的孩子们的死亡。而很少论及的另一个问题，是灾区地方官员自己成为受害者的程度。

In Beichuan, where as many as 15,000 residents were killed, a quarter of the local officials also perished in the quake. Many of the survivors lost family members. When my colleague Lin Yang and photographer Ian Teh went back to Sichuan last fall, we met with a Beichuan official whose wife and daughter were both killed on May 12. Zhang Kangqi keeps a drawing of them, sketched from old ID photos, by his bed. All other mementos of them were buried in Beichuan. "Son, when you left, your father did not have a future, did not have hope, did not have any expectations," Feng wrote. "To be with you is my biggest joy."

Most people will still ride bicycles to go to work or to school. The emperor

This weekend, there was an art festival in our school, it had been hold for

five years and the school insisted to make it become the feature. I was so

excited, this was the first time for me to join. Early in the morning, I saw

there were so many people coming to the campus, making the campus so lively. The

students dressed so well and gave the warm welcome to the guests. I walked

around and appreciated the painting, every work was drawn by the students, I was

so impressed by these works. There were also some handworks, which were so

creative, it reflected the students’ wisdom. Though we were busy with our

subjects most of the time, some students still kept on their hobbies and made it

their talent. I should learn from them and develop some interest.

My home town is a beautiful place. It stands beside a wide river and is

rich in fish and rice.

But in the old days it was a poor and backward little town. Many people had

no work. They lived a hard life.

In 1949 my hometown was liberated. Since then great changes have taken

place there. The streets have been widened. Factories, schools, hospitals,

cinemas and theatres have sprung up one after another. The life of the people is

greatly improved.

I love my hometown. All the more I love its people. They are working hard

so as to make it still richer and more beautiful.

There is no doubt that we all want to be successful. But what’s the main

concern of the way to success? From Abraham Lincoln’s famous remark, “Give me

six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four sharpening the

axe”, I learn that if we want to achieve success, we must make full preparation

for it.

Only if we are well prepared, can we catch the opportunity which occurs

once in a while. In our daily life, we have to expand our horizon and lay a

solid foundation for success. It will be a long way to be successful thus we

have to accumulate our knowledge day by day. And we can’t achieve success in one

or two days. It will help us solve problems more efficiently if we have a broad

horizon. What’s more, opportunities always occur out of our expectation so we

have to make ourselves well prepared. If we prepared, we will catch up with it

whenever it comes up.

Opportunities give priorities to the people who make preparation for them.

What’s more, success goes along with opportunities. We should develop the

ability to solve problems in different and efficient ways therefore we can make

our way to success more easily.

It is believed that the computer is bringing the world into a brand new

era. At the time the computer was invented, scientists, marveling at its

calculating speed, felt that they had created a miracle. Nowadays, the function

of the computer is no longer confined to calculation; it permeates people’s

daily lives and has become an inseparable part of human society.

People become so heavily dependent on computers that it is hard to imagine

the life without computers. Therefore, some people are worried that “The real

danger is not that the computer will think like man, but man will think like the

computer.”

Their concern does make sense. Indeed, some people spend such a long time

working on computers that they have few interactions with people in real life.

According to a research, too many hours in front of a computer may lead to a

because unlike computers, human beings are social creatures that need emotional

connections with others.

What impresses me most in Beijing is the Great Wall which is one of the

greatest projects in the world.

Its not only the cultural heritage, but also a symbol of China. "Its

glorious." I think. It looks like a big dragon running across the mountainous

area. It starts Shanhaiguan in the east to Jiayuguan in the west.Its so long that nobody can walk from the beginning to the end.It was firstly built in Qin Dynasty and prolonged in Ming and Qing

dynasties.It was used to protect the enemies from invading in the past, but now it

has become the place of interest which attracts so many tourists both at home

and abroad.

When I was standing on the top of the Great Wall, I felt as if I were in

ancient days.

I could see many laborers working very hard. How could they finish this

extremely difficult task by hand?

I enjoy singing very much. While singing, my heart as well as my body is

joyful. When Im happy, I often sing out to share my happiness with others. I

also sing out to pour out my bad feelings when Im upset.

I like pop music most, because I want to follow the trend. I prefer soft

music to rock music. Since we may be very tired after a long days work, we need

a rest very much. Perhaps soft music is the best recreation for us. My favorite

pop stars are JJ and Jay Chou. They always make a wonderful performance on the

stage. Their songs are so charming. I admire them very much.

In my spare time, I often sing a song to others. Everyone is so happy to be

my listener, because Im very brave and confident. Even though I couldnt be a

professional singer, I can still get a lot of good fun from singing. Because of

singing, my life becomes more colorful.

Ive been to a lot of beautiful places, but in my mind, the most important

thing in my mind is the Forbidden City.

The Forbidden City is a place where the ancient emperor of China can live.

The imperial palace has: temple of heaven, echo wall, emperors study and so on

many beautiful places. There are colorful flowers in the temple of heaven, very

beautiful. The flowers and grasses and the famous flowers and plants are all

Nowadays,there is a increasing number for people to join in the activities

of volunteering.Its well-known that volunteering job is making contribution to

the society with nothing in return.Its like the Leifeng spirit.However,knowing

this,there are still many people would like to devote themseves in this

trend.For instance,the 20__ Beijing Olympic Games has so many volunteers.They

made lots of contribution to the success of opening the Olympics.Moreover,we can

often see that there many students go to geroium to visit the old to bring warm

It seems like a silly question, anyone in sane would give a hand to the elderly who fell. But in China, this question is becoming tricky. Many news report that there are some old people not just fell, they do it on purpose. Usually, they walk on a crowdy street, and pretend to faint or just lay down on the ground, intend to accuse the one who comes to help as a perpetrator and blackmail him/her for the treatment fee. Many people have fell for that and had to pay as there is no witness to prove their innocence. As for these negative news, people is afraid to help those old people in need, that makes some of them who are in real trouble could not get help in time. what s your plan for dragon boat festival?

As a chinese, I was really ashamed of having a little knowledge of dragon boat festival. Perhaps I was born in northern city, though my city is nearby sea, it has been built a U port which I can only see cargo ships and can t see the sweeping ocean. So I have never see the dragon boat contest since I was born. So the dragon boat festival is just a holiday for eating Zong Zi . My mother made Zong Zi when I was a child. Because there was no supermarket, we couldn t buy finished product from market. However, now, we can buy anything in supermarket, so my mother didn t make them anymore. The boat festival began to fade out my mind.

In reality, young people began to have a bug to celebrate foreign festivals, such as Christams, Saint Valentine s day, April Fool s Day, some people also celebrate Easter in church. Talk about Dragon boat festival, it s the same as some foreign conventional festivals, such as Witch s Day in Czech. People burned the witch s puppet so as to welcome spring. Some people are willing to celebrate foreign festivals because they like alien culture. And vice versa, foreigners who like China also concern about Chinese traditional culture.

After new holiday regulation, we have three holidays during the dragon boat festival. So many people will choose this time to travel. People who lived in Xiamen are able to visit Xiapu or Wu Yi mountain, these tourist attractions are in Fujian province,which is suit a short tirp. but I d like to stay at home for my decorate painting. I decide to draw two canvases about Christmas, it s really a big project. Then I ll hang them on the new house wall. I must start it now, or I can t finish them before Christmas eve. But I preceive it s a little difficult to draw them in such a hot season.

never be forgotten, because a horrible earthquake happened in Wenchuan, which

caused tens of thousands of children’s death.

On hearing the news, I felt so sorrowful. “Why was the god so cruel to

them?” I asked. They were still at the entrance of the life. They seemed like

little eagles that were willing to open their wings and hover in the sky. Maybe

they would have their brilliant future. What a great loss to our nation! I had

As is known to all food is a priority for the common people. Recently

however reports about food problems have often been seen in the newspapers

showing that people have always been concerned about what they eat every day.

The reason for this problem is that some of the food producers are too fond of

making money leading to the result that they use whatever will make the food

look good or taste better without considering the bad consequences. This is not

normal because people just cannot live without eating anything.

So we should take all the measures necessary to forbid the food producers

to make food that is not safe enough. Laws should be strengthened and the

government should have more control over these producers. Only when people are

no longer worried about whether their food is safe or not can they enjoy a

better life.

Recently，the incident of Sanlu milk powder has become the focus of peoples attention. According to the investigation of related departments，the powder was found to contain a chemical called C3N6H6 which can cause great damage to infants health. So far，four children have died and approximately 54，000 have developed illness after drinking the milk.

From this incident，we can see that there are still more things to be done. Firstly，the government needs everything possible to ensure the quality of products，particularly the safety of food as this concerns everyones life. Secondly，as for the producers，it is very important for them to be morally honest. They should never try to pursue profit or economic growth at the expense of health and life of people. Thirdly，we consumers must attach importance to the things we eat and develop an awareness of how to protect our legal rights if cheated. Only in this way will we be able to build a more secure and harmonious society.
