The mini knitted garments have helped save hundreds of flightless birds caught in oil spills providing protection from the elements and stopping them from ingesting poisonous pollution.

Knits for Nature a program run by The Penguin Foundation which conserves the little penguin population of Phillip Island 140km south-east of Melbourne has created up to 300 different designs over the years - and its all thanks to talented volunteers.

‘There’s a lot of hidden creativity out there said Lyn Blom of the Phillip Island Nature Park.

People love to know that they’re helping the penguins because they’re so cute and small and they waddle up the beach and they’re so feisty. But they need to be they live in a pretty tough sort of environment.’

A thumbnail-sized patch of oil can kill little penguins the smallest of the species measuring just 13 inches (33cm) and weighing 2.2lbs (1kg). The oil separates and mats their feathers breaking natural waterproofing and heating functions.

Ms Blom estimates she has knitted between 200 and 300 penguin jumpers over the years including ones in the colours of every Australian Rules football team in the country.

A staff member read an article in an English women’s magazine about knitting for guillemot birds and decided to adapt the designs.

‘There’s an awful lot of ladies out there who used to knit for their children and grandchildren. These ladies have spare wool and idle hands and they love to feel loved and needed and we love and need them’ said Ms Blom.

The Penguin Foundation recently staged a competition for the most creative jumper which received an enthusiastic response.

The Penguin Foundation rescues approximately 20 birds a year. They even have a stockpile of jumpers in case of emergency - such as the large oil spill near Phillip Island in 2001.

In that instance 453 Little Penguins were affected 96 percent of which were saved - most thanks to the jumpers.

我是下棋高手我的脸方方的，长着不算很大的眼睛，大大的招风耳，不算大的鼻子和嘴巴。这就是我，一个独一无二的我。

我有许多爱好：唱歌、下棋、看书、游泳……在这些爱好中，我最喜欢下棋，下棋能让我多思考，我也渐渐把思考变成一项爱好了。

在一次学校棋王争霸赛中，我获得了一枚铜牌，是我冷静思考的结果。有几次，我和同学对弈中国象棋的时候，他被我的一颗小兵骗走了他的一颗车。他的车没了，我的胜算就变大了。我就这样慢慢成了我们班里的象棋高手。

不只是我们班的人说我是象棋高手。有一次在兴趣班里，我和当时最厉害的人下了一盘，虽然我输了棋，但是我还是很高兴，因为很多人都是被他秒杀的，我却和他下了很久才败下阵来。

这就是我，一个被很多人称为象棋高手的我。

我叫古优灿，今年八岁，上小学三年级。个子长得高高的，胖胖的，脸圆圆的。眼镜很小，笑的时候总是眯成一条缝，头发又浓又黑。我不是很活泼，虽然我经常读书，懂得知识也不少，但是上课发言不太积极。

我喜欢打篮球和踢足球，但是最喜欢踢足球，因为踢足球可以锻炼身体，还可以提高反应能力。

我还有一个最大的缺点，那就是马虎。因为马虎本来该做对的题，一马虎就做错了。因此我也被妈妈批评过很多次，妈妈经常对我说:"站胜马虎会让你变得更加出色。"

我叫李天，属蛇，今年8岁了。我个子一米四四，不胖也不瘦，乌黑的短发，看上去有点二，因为我一直认为明星的发型不会是这样的。浓浓的眉毛下面有一双特别好看的眼睛，睫毛长长的，虽然被我不小心烧过，但它现在依然长得很密。可惜被鼻梁上的这一副蓝边近视眼镜给遮住了。鼻子看上去很普通，嘴巴看上去一般，但内部一下子可以容纳三个饺子，你信吗？

我的性格很暴躁还有点固执，这都是遗传了我爸的DNA，因此朋友很少。虽然只有两个朋友，但和我的性格很相似，有时我们亲密无间，有时我们又会争锋相对。记得有一次，我居然把朋友用悠悠球扎的满头包，可不久之后我们就会和好如初。我的这两个朋友，都是可以为对方拔刀相助的好哥们。

我最擅长的是仰卧起坐和踢足球了。每次体育课仰卧体坐半分钟我一般能做48个，最高一次记录49个，而其他同学最多也就45个。大家都说我是蹴鞠天才，在球场上我可以大约计算出对方球员的发球的力量和奔跑的速度，从多次踢球的经验马上就知道谁是菜鸟，谁是老鸟。对自己的队员我也能了如指掌。所以说知己知彼百战百胜是有道理的。我总是常胜将军。

我最喜欢看电视、玩手机、玩电脑、以及电子有关的游戏。可惜总是不能尽情的玩。

A Letter to My Dear Father

This Sunday is Father’s Day. I am very happy. I’m writing a letter for you now. But my classmates are playing games.

Today is rainy. Please take care. Do you know? My study is good. There fore, don’t worry about my study. I have a good news to tell you. I have won the second award at the piano competition. Are you happy ?

On the weekend, I usually go hiking on the Song Shan Lake. We are very happy. But after we walk for a long time, we feel a little tired. When the sun goes down, we return home. I like going hiking. What about you?

我叫白雪，今年11岁，在盐城市第一小学五年级一班读书。

白雪，白雪，从我的名字你就可以想象到我是雪白的皮肤，大大的眼睛，你是不是还联想到白雪公主了呢?我还有一头乌黑的头发，再加上高高的个子，每次我到别人家，他们都夸我长得漂亮。

虽然别人都夸我长得漂亮，可我脾气却不是很好。有一次，已经晚上八点半了，可我还在看电视，这时妈妈回来了，见到我这副模样，严厉地批评我，可我却和她顶嘴，结果挨了一顿打。

我的缺点就是太犟了，一旦决定做一件事，十头牛都拉不回头，别人的意见，不管是否正确，我向来都不接受。我一律“NO”。我还有一个缺点，就是自私自利，好东西从来不愿和别人分享，别人有困难的时候，我也不肯帮忙。我还非常淘气，只要学校的人一提到五年级，就会联想到1班，因为1班有个淘气大王白雪。有一天，下雪了，我淘气地把走廊上的雪都泼到了楼底下，碰巧泼到了校长的秃顶上，冻得他龇牙咧嘴。我也知道闯祸了，立马逃之夭夭，边跑还边笑。

我也有优点，就是爱读书，特别爱看历史书。记得有一次，妈妈给我买了一本《史记》(白话版)，一回到家，我便打开书，坐在椅子上看起来。下午，我妈的一个朋友来了。妈妈在楼下大喊：“小雪，下来，你夏阿姨来了!”“知道了，再看一页!”可是，下面一页更精彩，等我下楼时，客人不见了，这时，妈妈走了过来：“怎么，一页书看这么久?”我心虚地笑了笑。

Two days later, Lucy explained and I felt so sorry to her, I must learn to control my bad temper.
