春秋时，有父子两人，他们同是孔子的弟子。父亲曾哲爱吃羊枣(一种野生果子，俗名叫牛奶柿);儿子曾参是个孝子，父亲死后，竟不忍心吃羊枣。这件事情在当时曾被儒家子弟大为传颂。

到了战国时，孟子的弟子公孙丑对这件事不能理解，于是就去向老师孟子请教。公孙丑问：“老师，脍炙和羊枣，哪一样好吃?”

“当然是脍炙好吃，没有哪个不爱吃脍炙的!”公孙丑又问：“既然脍炙好吃，那么曾参和他父亲也都爱吃脍炙的了?那为什么曾参不戒吃脍炙，只戒吃羊枣呢?”

孟子回答说：“烩炙，是大家都爱吃的;羊枣的滋味虽比不上烩炙，但却是曾哲特别爱吃的东西。所以曾参只戒吃羊枣。好比对长辈只忌讳叫名字，不忌讳称姓一样，姓有相同的，名字却是自己所独有的。”

孟子的一席话，使公孙丑明白了其中的道理。后来人们从孟子所说的“脍炙，所同也”里引伸出“脍炙人口”这句成语。用来比喻人人赞美的事物和传诵的诗文。

All are brave when the enemy flies.敌人逃窜时，人人都成了勇士。
