记得四年级上期，学校举行演讲比赛，老师让我代表班上参加比赛。我一听，马上跳起来说：“老师，我不行的，我从来没演讲过，当着那么多人演讲，我会输的。”老师笑着对我说：“不要紧，每个人都会经历人生中第一次，不管结果怎样，相信自己，你就胜利了。”就这样，我硬着头皮着手准备我的第一次演讲。
演讲的日子到了。我前面几个同学演讲得很精彩，博得了阵阵掌声。我心里不禁紧张起来，心想：怎么办?他们说得那么好，我怎能比得过。很快，轮到我了，我的双脚像灌了铅似的，慢慢地挪上演讲台。我一抬头，下面黑压压的一片，腿不听使唤的发软，要不是我强撑着，可能就倒在台上了。我面红耳赤，尽管天气不热，但我满头的汗往下滴。在主持人的催促下，我打开了紧闭的嘴：“亲爱的……同学们，老……老师们，大家好……”虽然把嘴打开了，但说话结结巴巴，声音好像不是自己的。我羞愧极了，真想找个洞钻进去，心里也打起了退堂鼓。
忽然，我看见台下有一双温和的眼睛望着我，好像说：“你能行的，相信自己。”我冷静下来，调整了自己，鼓起勇气镇定地往下讲。终于，在一片热烈的掌声中我的演讲完了。
这次演讲，我明白了一个道理：做任何事要相信自己，就是胜利。

屈原是我国古代伟大的爱国诗人，出生在两千多年前战国时期的楚国。他为人正直，学识渊博，很有才干，在楚国担任要职。因为他坚决主张抗击秦国侵略，而受到打击、排斥，被楚王赶出了朝廷。屈原悲愤至极，在流放途中写下了许多充满爱国主义精神的诗篇，如：《离骚》、《天问》、《九歌》等影响深远的诗篇。后来，秦国军队攻占了楚国的都城。楚国失地千里，尸横遍野。屈原心如刀绞，他不愿意看到国破家亡的惨景，就在农历五月五日这一天，在写下了绝笔《怀沙》之后，抱石投江而死，以自己的生命谱写了一曲壮丽的爱国主义乐章。
百姓们爱戴屈原，当听到他自杀的消息后，纷纷划船打捞屈原的遗体，但没能找到。他们怕江中的鱼虾会咬食屈原的遗体，又纷纷把江米装迸竹筒，扔到水里，想用江米喂食鱼虾来保护屈原的遗体。从此，每年的五月初五，人们都会自发地来到江边，悼念屈原，还要划着船冲进汹涌的波涛，象征人们争相打捞屈原遗体，以此来寄托对屈原的哀思。久而久之就形成了端午节赛龙舟的习俗。
屈原离世已有两千多年了，今天我们来纪念他，主要是学习他爱祖国爱人民、坚持真理、宁死不屈的精神和他“可与日月争辉”的人格。屈原的精神是不朽的。不管时光如何变迁，他会永远生活在岁月的长河里，永远铭记在人们的心中!

People travel by plane, by train, by ship, by bus. For me, the best way of traveling on a summer vacation is to go on foot.
