二、要灵活变通

在批改过上万份同学们英语(课程)作文中，经常能发现一些将中文生硬地翻译成英文的表达法。有一句话叫做“立志如山，行道如水”，写英文作文，一定要有决心把它写好，有信心把意思表达清楚，这是“立志如山”;但关键是遇到问题时要有个灵活的态度，能像流水一样变通解决问题。有个翻译界的故事说：在某大型国际会议的招待会上，一道菜是用鸡蛋做的。与会的客人问翻译：“What is it made of”本来是非常简单的一个问题，结果翻译太紧张，忘了“egg”这个词，但是他急中生智，回答：“It is made of Miss Hen’s son.”这里，就是一个灵活变通的范例。绕道表达，是写作中应该常常运用的一种方法。

三、要细心观察

注意英语中一些表达上的习惯。比如在正式文体的写作中，很少用 “it isn’t”这样的略缩形式，而往往是一板一眼地写作 “it is not”。同理，在正式文体中的日期一般不缩写，阿拉伯数字一般会用英文表达(特别长的数字除外)。

许多同学在写作文时，习惯于把 “since” “because” “for”这样的词放在句首引导原因状语从句。事实上，在我们见到的英语报刊杂志文章中，这样的从句一般都是放在主句之后的。另外, “and”也常常被误放在一句话的开头，表示两个句子之间的并列或递进关系。其实，经常留心地道的英语文章能发现，如果是并列关系，完全可以不用连词;如果是递进关系，用 “furthermore” “what is more”更为普遍。

四、要心有全局

英文写作如果结构意识良好，应试写作就简化成为一个填空的过程了，适当地填入观点、素材，文章就自然而然立起来了。

临考在即，同学们要牢记英语写作的基本要领，特编顺口溜如下：细审题，巧构思，列要点，防遗漏。写日记，同汉语;书信，通知格式要牢记。看清图表细梳理，写人记事按顺序;完稿后查遗漏，整洁干净莫忘记。

1937年12月，日军占领南京，随后就是那场人类历野蛮血腥、惨绝人寰的“南京大屠杀”。这是一段令杨振宁，也是令整个中华民族刻骨铭心的耻辱历史。

烽火岁月里，父亲带着一家人从合肥经汉口等地到了昆明。杨振宁在那里进了西南联大，那所在战时极负盛名的大学。父亲也在那所大学任教。

西南联大由战前中国最有声望的三所大学合并而成，它们是北京大学、清华大学和天津的南开大学。

杨振宁在西南联大读了4年本科，尔后，1942年至1944年，还是在西南联大，他又完成了研究生学业。

杨振宁在西南联大读的是物理系。当时在西南联大任教的教授多为留学欧美归来的年轻博士。他坦率直言，在西南联大，最为成功的当推数学系，而给他留下印象最深的三位数学教授是：陈省身，华罗庚和许宝路。

说到物理系的老师们，杨振宁的眉宇间更是洋溢着一种难以抑制的怀念之情。那些当年亲手把他引入科学圣殿的业师们，都是中国物理学界不可多得的杰出人才哪!

杨振宁是一个非常念旧重情的人，对于他来说，师恩终身难忘。他十分尊崇已故的赵宗尧教授，80年代，他曾与国内的物理学界同行共同撰文，赞扬赵老师在物理学研究和教育中取得的重要成就。还有吴大猷和王竹溪教授，在杨振宁的眼里，这两位老师当年的教育对他的一生都起到了重大的影响。

杨振宁在上大学四年级时，曾就毕业论文一事求教于吴大猷教授。吴大猷当时给他出了一个题目：“群论在分子光谱学中的运用”，而分子光谱学正属于吴大猷本人当时的研究范围。在吴大猷的指导下，杨振宁完成了这篇论文。就在完成这篇论文的过程中，杨振宁第一次步入群论研究这一神奇之谷，群论在未来物理学研究空间中的重要地位，群论所展示的那种令人赞叹的奇特的美，在这位未来的诺贝尔物理奖得主心中留下了极为深刻的印象。自此以后，杨振宁一生所从事的研究几乎都与群论有关。

今天是一年一度的中秋节，今天又是首长正式批准的第一个中秋节。

早上，绿树成阴的柏油马路上车水马龙、一辆辆绚丽多彩、形状万千的轿车、大客车犹如一条闪着五彩缤纷颜色的弯曲长龙。商店里、超市内一个个的月饼盒纷纷上场，她们十分美丽，礼盒小姐们也不堪示弱，穿上了华丽的礼服争先恐后的上了“舞台”。超市里张灯结彩的挂起了装饰品，还打起了优惠的牌子招揽顾客。城市的上空飘满了气球就像是人们的心愿飘向远方。

往年晚上，居民们在山上边观赏圆月边吃圆圆的月饼。今年天气不合我们的口味儿——下雨了，大家都没有看月亮的机会了，我们一家也不例外。我吃着月饼看着圆月脑子里突然想到中秋节是怎么来的呢?妈妈告诉我一个故事：从前有个人他在梦里看见自己上了月宫，嫦娥盛情款待，并端出了酥酥甜甜的仙饼，还让众仙女载歌载舞的庆祝他们的到来。那人暗暗地记下了音乐，然后让人整理出了优美动听的“霓裳羽衣曲”还让人仿制了仙饼因为它来自月宫，又形如满月大家就叫它月饼。而且月饼出于中秋，所以八月十五就是中秋节。

圆圆的月亮，圆圆的月饼代表着人们的愿望能一一实现得很圆满!日子越过越充实!

Is Failure a Bad Thing?

Failure is a common thing in our daily life. For example, sometimes we fail to pass the examinations. On other occasions, we are defeated in sport games. And there are times when we fail to do more satisfactory work. So it is safe to say that every one of us must have encountered failure of one kind or another.

However, different people have different attitudes towards failure. Some people lose heart when they come across failures. They seem to think that it is the end of the world. Others, on the contrary, don’t take failure seriously. They seem to think that failure is first step to success.

In my opinion, what really counts is not failure itself, but our attitude towards it. If we are afraid of failure and yield to it easily, we are bound to have one failure after another. But as long as we have confidence in ourselves and learn something from failure, we’ll certainly go from victory to victory. So I’m never afraid of failure, or I firmly believe that “failure is the mother of success.”
