以上例子中所用的比喻都很确切，因而这种肖像描写都能鲜明地显示人物的性格，但是运用这种手法并非轻而易举就可奏效，它要求作者对人物性格有深刻的理解，对生活有细致的观察，对喻体和本体的关系有清楚的认识，然后才能运用确切的比喻和适当的夸张使人物肖像活灵活现。否则，只能是一般化的泛泛比喻，也不会写出不同人物的不同肖像，也就不能显示出人物的个性。
