The cowhand farmed in the field and the Weaver Maid wove at home. They lived a happy life and gave birth to a boy and a girl. Unfortunately, the God of Heaven soon found out the fact and ordered the Queen Mother of the Western Heavens to bring the Weaver Maid back.

With the help of celestial cattle, the Cowhand flew to heaven with his son and daughter. At the time when he was about to catch up with his wife, the Queen Mother took off one of her gold hairpins and made a stroke. One billowy river appeared in front of the Cowhand. The Cowhand and Weaver Maid were separated on the two banks forever and could only feel their tears. Their loyalty to love touched magpies, so tens of thousands of magpies came to build a bridge for the Cowhand and Weaver Maid to meet each other. The Queen Mother was eventually moved and allowed them to meet each year on the 7th of the 7th lunar month. Hence their meeting date has been called "Qi Xi" (Double Seventh).

Scholars have shown the Double Seventh Festival originated from the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD220). Historical documents from the Eastern Jin Dynasty (AD371-420) mention the festival, while records from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) depict the grand evening banquet of Emperor Taizong and his

concubines. By the Song (960-1279) and Yuan (1279-1368) dynasties, special articles for the "Qi Xi" were seen being sold on markets in the capital. The bustling markets demonstrated the significance of the festival.

Today some traditional customs are still observed in rural areas of China, but have been weakened or diluted in urban cities. However, the legend of the Cowhand and Weaver Maid has taken root in the hearts of the people. In recent years, in particular, urban youths have celebrated it as Valentines Day in China. 秦始皇陵及兵马俑坑位于陕西省西安市临潼区骊山北麓。陵墓建于公元前246年至公元前208年现存墓封土高40米。兵马俑坑位于秦始皇陵东侧，是秦陵的大型陪葬坑。整个帝陵是长方形的，从整体布局来看，分成内城和外城，这两座城外都有高达10米的城墙，还有珍奇异兽坑、马厩坑等，从这里出土的文物达万件之多。整个陵墓是由秦国的丞相李斯设计的，参与建造陵墓的人数有10万之多，历时37年完成，秦始皇去世都还没建成。目的就是为了秦始皇在驾崩后能长眠于此，而兵马俑在陵墓里是让嬴政死后还能统治这里

而秦陵的发现可以说是机缘巧合，1974年陕西省的西杨村的一个农民意外发现了一具陶制人，引起了当地村民的关注。于是上报给国家。这才发现了宏大的秦始皇陵。

秦始皇陵东侧就是兵马俑坑，分别为一号坑、二号坑、三号坑。三个俑坑总面积近20000平方米。其中一号坑是最早被发现的.，井然有序的排成环形方阵，具有强烈的艺术感染力。二号坑由骑兵、步兵、弩兵和战车混合编组的大型军阵。有陶俑陶马1300多件，战车80余辆，青铜兵器数万件。

三号坑是三个坑中唯一没有被火烧过的，所以陶俑颜色比较鲜艳。兵马俑虽然是陶制假人，可从远处望去，那数千名手持兵器的武士，那数百匹曳车的战马，一行行，一列列，构成宏伟、气势磅礴的阵容。秦始皇陵体现了我国古代人民的智慧，它让我们看到了中国古代的雄伟。而兵马俑则作为中华民族的财富，我们应该为之骄傲，为之自豪!
