At that moment the sound of a motor car was heard in the drive. From this chariot stepped the gifted wife of Sir John Lavery .”

Historians have called the decade after 1929, when the Conservative government fell and Winston was out of office, his wilderness years. Politically he may have been wandering in barren places, a lonely fighter trying to awaken Britain to the menace of Hitler, but artistically that wilderness bore abundant fruit. During these years he often painted in the South of France. Of the 500-odd canvases extant, roughly 250 date from 1930 to 1939.

the railway station was congested with travelers who rushed to the platform like a swarm of bees and then squeezed their way into the train for seats as if there would be no tomorrow.

in the restaurants, tables were shared. a platoon of waiters filed out from the kitchen armed with various containers of eatables. orders were taken feverishly and then shouted across to the kitchen. excitement reigned everywhere as waiters ran hither and thither to fill the orders.

正当我拼到一半时，发现有一个零件怎么也拼不上去。我仔仔细细，目不转睛地将说明书看了好几遍，发现，第一步我便拼反了，我将飞机的主体拆开，又从头开始拼。好几次零件没有找到时，我便提心吊胆到处找。找到了，便长舒一口气;假若没找到，大脑里便一片空白，两只手随意乱翻着，不知所措。

就这样，在经历了“一百一百一万”难之后，我终于---拼好了。望着几周前便开始拼的飞机，我竟一脸茫然，十根手指都很酸痛，还贴着好几个创口贴，几千个零件所构成的飞机，横空出世了。

他成了我们家的亮点，每当有客人光临时，总会对他它赞不绝口。整整四年了，曾经威武的它已破旧不堪，多处零件都快掉了。身上的贴纸也已经开始发黄，它早已被我其他的“成就”所替代。
