“我”双腿瘫痪后脾气变得暴躁，常常摔东西，悲观厌世。母亲为了鼓励“我”生存的勇气，在重病缠身的情况下还要坚持带“我”去北海公园看花。“我”答应了，但母亲却等不但那一天。母亲生命里的最后一刻还挂念着“我”和未成年的妹妹。
