Keeping a diary in English is one of the effective ways to improve our English writing ability. Compared with other forms of writing, it is shorter and takes less time. Qingming Festival, also known as Pure Brightness Festival or Tomb-sweeping Day, is one of the 24 segments of the Chinese calendar. It normally falls on the 4th or 5th of April, between spring plowing and summer weeding, and is a time to pay respects to ones ancestors and to tidy their gravesite. On this day, whole families, young and old, go to the gravesite of deceased family members to burn incense and perform a ritual offering while clearing away plant overgrowth from the gravesite.

Qingming Festival is when Chinese people visit the graves or burial grounds of their ancestors. Traditionally, people brought a whole rooster with them to the graves visited but the occasion has become less formal over time. The festival originated from Hanshi Day (寒食节, literally, Day with cold food only), a memorial day for Jie Zitui (介子推). Jie Zitui died in 636 BC in the Spring and Autumn Period. He was one of many followers of Duke Wen of Jin before he became a duke.

Once, during Wens 19 years of exile, they had no food and Jie prepared some meat soup for Wen. Wen enjoyed it a lot and wondered where Jie had obtained the soup. It turned out Jie had cut a piece of meat from his own thigh to make the soup. Wen was so moved he promised to reward him one day. However, Jie was not the type of person who sought rewards. Instead, he just wanted to help Wen to return to Jin to become king.

Once Wen became duke, Jie resigned and stayed away from him. Duke Wen rewarded the people who helped him in the decades, but for some reason he forgot to reward Jie, who by then had moved into the forest with his mother. Duke Wen went to the forest, but could not find Jie. Heeding suggestions from his officials, Duke Wen ordered men to set the forest on fire to force out Jie. However, Jie died in the fire. Feeling remorseful, Duke Wen ordered three days without fire to honour Jies memory. The county where Jie died is still called Jiexiu (介休, literally "the place Jie rests forever").

快乐的周末 A Happy Weekend

I have a happy weekend!Take lessons on Saturday, Im going to cram school,

tutoring English and maths. In the afternoon, I watch TV at home. In the

今天我上了一节有趣的新概念英语课。

我和覃淦、曾丽欣、李亮、常佩林首先开始了新概念课程的第一部分小组竞赛（以加分的形式），我们开始学第27课。学完以后，老师告诉我们，她要我们抢答几道题，我以5：3占了优势。

我们又开始了听写110课的百词赛。我一看，老师听写的词很简单，所以，听一个，就毫不犹豫地写一个。听写听了好多个词。终于，我忘了一个单词，这是最后一个单词。终于，听写结束了。

最有趣的是第二个环节大隆（英国人的中文名）的外教课。大隆老师首先问我们的名字（英文）。然后让我们分别问他一个问题，要用英文。他非常幽默。他又让他问我们问题了。他问我：Do you have money(你有钱吗？)我连忙说：No, No ,No 。（没有）曾丽欣说：我有。大隆老师说：给我。把我们都逗得哄堂大笑，这个老师真有趣。

接着我们玩了BINGO（宾狗）游戏。游戏规则是：老师在黑板上写很多单词，我们画表格，六个格子。抄六个黑板上的单词。然后老师报20个单词。要求六个格子全都对。我写了Policeman（警察）、Are(问怎样)、Ask（问）、When(什么时候)、book(书)、pencil(铅笔)，结果老师正好问了这些单词。我赢了！

最后，大隆老师给了我们每人一根棒棒糖。外教课结束了！

这是多么美妙的一天；这是多么有趣的外教课；这是多么令人难忘的老师。我喜欢外教课！
