There are many different beliefs about the origin of the Lantern Festival.

But one thing for sure is that it had something to do with celebrating and

cultivating positive relationship between people, families, nature and the

higher beings they believed were responsible for bringing/returning the light

each year.

One legend tells us that it was a time to worship Taiyi, the God of Heaven

in ancient times. The belief was that the God of Heaven controlled the destiny

of the human world. He had sixteen dragons at his beck and call and he decided

when to inflict drought, storms, famine or pestilence upon human beings.

Beginning with Qinshihuang, the first emperor to unite the country, all the

emperors ordered splendid ceremonies each year. The emperor would ask Taiyi to

bring favorable weather and good health to him and his people. Emperor Wudi of

the Han Dynasty directed special attention to this event. In 104 BC, he

proclaimed it as one of the most important celebrations and the ceremony would

last throughout the night. They clean it all up in the morning.

Another legend associates the Lantern Festival with Taoism. Tianguan is the

Taoist god responsible for good fortune. His birthday falls on the 15th day of

the first lunar month. It is said that Tianguan likes all types of

entertainment, so followers prepare various kinds of activities during which

they pray for good fortune.

Yet another common legend dealing with the origins of the Lantern Festival

speaks of a beautiful bird that flew down to earth from heaven, which was hunted

and killed by some villagers. This angered the Jade Emperor in Heaven because

the bird was his favorite one. Therefore, he planned a storm of fire to destroy

the village on the 15th lunar day. The Jade Emperors daughter heard of this

plan, and warned the villagers of her father’s plan to destroy their village.

The village was in turmoil because nobody knew how should they escape their

imminent destruction.

However, a wise man from another village suggested that every family should

hang red lanterns around their houses, set up bonfires on the streets, and

explode firecrackers on the 14th, 15th, and 16th lunar days. This would give the

village the appearance of being on fire to the Jade Emperor. On the 15th lunar

day, troops sent down from heaven whose mission was to destroy the village saw

that the village was already ablaze, and returned to heaven to report to the

Jade Emperor. Satisfied, the Jade Emperor decided not to burn down the village.

From that day on, people celebrate the anniversary on the 15th lunar day every

year by carrying red lanterns on the streets and exploding firecrackers and

fireworks.

There are many stories on how this festival was created. One other story is

about a maid. In the Han Dynasty, Mr. Eastern was a favorite advisor of the

emperor. One winter day, he went to the garden and heard a little girl crying

and getting ready to jump into a well to commit suicide. Mr. Eastern stopped her

and asked why. She said she was a maid in the emperors palace and her name was

Yuan-Xiao.

She never had the chance to meet her family after she started worked at the

palace. She missed them so much every 12th lunar month. If she couldnt have the

chance to show her filial piety in this life, she would rather die. Mr. Eastern

promised her to find a way so she could reunion with her family. Mr. Eastern

left the palace and set up a fortune-telling stall on the street and disguised

himself as a fortuneteller. Because of his reputation, many people asked for

their fortunes.

But every one got the same prediction - a severe fire accident on the 15th

lunar day. The rumor spread quickly. Everyone was worried about the future and

asked Mr. Eastern for help. Mr. Eastern said, "On the 13th lunar day, the God of

Fire will send a fairy lady in red to burn down the city. If you see a lady in

red wearing green pants riding a black horse on that day, you should ask for her

mercy." On that day, Yuan-Xiao pretended to be the red fairy lady. When people

asked for her help, she said, "Im the messenger of the God of Fire and came to

check on the city and Im going to set up fire on 15th. This is an order from

Jade Emperor. He will watch from the heavens.

I will give you a copy of the imperial decree from the God of Fire. You

should go to ask your emperor to find a way out." After she left, people went to

the palace to show the emperor the decree which reads "The capital city is in

trouble. Fire burns on the palace, and fire from Heaven burns all night long on

the 15th." The emperor of Han Dynasty was very shocked. He called and asked Mr.

Eastern for advice. After pondering for a while, Mr. Eastern said, "I heard that

the God of Fire likes to eat Tang-Yuan (Sweet dumpling). Does Yuan-Xiao often

cook Tang-Yuan for you? On the 15th lunar day, let Yuan-Xiao make Tang-Yuan.

Your Majesty will take charge of the worshipping ceremony and you will give

an order to every house to prepare Tang-Yuan to worship the God of Fire at the

same time. Also, deliver another order to ask every house in the city to hang

red lantern and explode fire crackers. Lastly, everyone in the palace and people

outside the city should carry their lanterns on the street to watch the lantern

decoration and fireworks. If everything goes this way, the Jade Emperor would be

deceived.

Then everyone can avoid the fire accident." The emperor happily followed

the plan. Lanterns were everywhere in the capital city on the night of the 15th

lunar day. People were walking on the street. Fire crackers kept making lots of

noise. It looked like the entire city was on fire. Yuan-Xiaos parents went into

the palace to watch the lantern decorations, and Yuan-Xiao made a big lantern

and wrote her name on the lantern. They happily reunited together after her

parents called her name. Everybody was safe during the night. The emperor of Han

Dynasty had a new order that people should do the same thing every year. Since

Yuan-Xiao cooked the best Tan-Yuan, people called the day Yuan-Xiao

Festival.

Young people were chaperoned in the streets in hopes of finding love.

Matchmakers acted busily in hopes of pairing couples. The brightest lanterns

were symbolic of good luck and hope. As time has passed, the festival no longer

has such implications.

Those who do not carry lanterns often enjoy watching informal lantern

parades. In addition to eating tangyuan (simplified Chinese: 汤圆; traditional

Chinese: 湯圓; pinyin: tāngyuán), another popular activity at this festival is

guessing lantern riddles (which became part of the festival during the Tang

Dynasty), which often contain messages of good fortune, family reunion, abundant

harvest, prosperity and love.

故宫博物馆是世界四大博物馆之一，馆内珍藏了超过五十六万件中华文化遗产瑰宝。馆藏的主要部分是来自北京故宫和中央博物馆;另外一部分是来台以后的移交、购藏与捐赠。：藏品多是精华中的精华，所以故宫故有“中华文化宝库”之誉。这次台湾之行，我们也来到了故宫博物馆。

走进故宫博物馆的二楼中的一个小馆，看到的是台北博物馆的三个“镇馆三宝”——毛公鼎、肉形石和翠玉白菜。

毛公鼎高53.8公分，腹深27.2公分，口径47公分，重34.700公斤，口饰重环纹一道，敞口，双立耳，叁蹄足。鼎中有铭文499字，是现存最长的铭文。

肉形石是一块天然形成的石头。高5.73公分，宽6.6公分，厚5.3公分。表面上看，酷似一块令人垂涎三尺、肥瘦相间的“东坡肉”。最令人惊叹的是：这块看似东坡肉的石头上，竟然有像真肉一样的毛孔!!!!

翠玉白菜长18.7公分，：9.1公分，厚5.07公分。此件翠玉白菜原是永和宫的陈设器，永和宫为清末瑾妃所居之宫殿，据说翠玉白菜即为其随嫁的嫁妆。白菜寓意清白;象征新嫁娘的纯洁，昆虫则象征多产;祈愿新妇能子。

在故宫博物馆里还有很多珍品：青瓷尊、白瓷婴儿枕、玉辟邪、玉屏障······参观完博物馆，我们又乘车去往第二站!!!

今天，妈妈带我去参观故宫博物馆。

故宫在古代称作紫禁城，据说房子的屋顶脊兽越多说明等级越高也越尊贵。故宫里太和殿屋顶的脊兽最多有10个。太和殿因地势较高，被烧过24次，因为古代没有避雷针，打雷时引起大火，所以故宫没座房子前有一个金属制的大缸又称吉祥缸，每年冬天吉祥缸里的水会结冰，宫里的太监就把柴火放到缸下烧，把冰融化。

故宫保和殿后有一块200多吨的汉白玉，名字叫“云龙阶石”，在古代没有现代的机械是怎么运到故宫的呢？古人用了10000多名民工和6000多位士兵，还有1000头驴子。古代人很聪明，他们在路上1里打一口井，在冰上拉着汉白玉，就这样过了28天，才拉到京城。

紫禁城里的重要宫殿都铺着金砖，传说一块金砖值一两金子。

经过这一次参观，我觉得古人们好聪明啊！

Last week, I saw a very impressive documentary about panda. A professor

studied panda in the early 1980s went to the wild life and kept trace of wild

giant panda for many years. As a result, he found that it was human being that

made these lovely animals die out. At that time, many people believed that giant

panda became less because of the low rate of newborn babies. But it was not

true. People cut trees for making profit at that time. Panda lose homeland and

they lacked of food. Thanks to these valuable data, the government took the

policy to protect the animals. So today, the number of giant panda is

increasing. People realize the importance of protecting the environment and it

is the best way to protect wild animals, they are the indispensable part of the

nature.

Every day, we can see the figures of the volunteers. Actually, they have

formed a kind of scenery of the city. Some people hold that volunteering is

merely a waste of time, because the volunteers have no gains with pains.

However, I believe that doing voluntary is quite rewarding.

In the first place, we can put into practice what we have learnt before,

for instance, when we were asked by a foreigner about the way to some place, we

could practice our oral foreign language, it’s definitely a good opportunity to

express ourselves in a foreign language correctly and clearly.

In the second place, we could make a lot of new friends while we are

volunteering As a proverb says, “At home one relies on one’s parents and outside

on one’s friends”, so it is never a bad thing to have lots of friends.

Finally, helping others is a good way to make you feel happy and when you

help others solve a problem successful, you will feel fulfillment. In this

sense, we reap a bountiful spiritual harvest by doing voluntary work.

tried to build their homes near the sources of fresh water. Now fresh water is

becoming scarce， but more and more is needed because of the increasing number of

Scientists estimate that the need for fresh water will have doubled by the year

2003. If they are correct， we must find new ways of saving it or producing it.

Some nations have worked on the problem and are already sharing their

information with others. They are trying to keep their rivers from becoming

polluted. Deep wells are also being dug， and rain water is being collected in

huge artificial lakes. In one way or another， they hope to provide enough water

来到北京，发现有许许多多名胜古迹。首先，我们来到了故宫博物院。

故宫可真大啊!我走了半天，脚已经累得痛了。妈妈说在这里休息一会，于是我买了一份有关故宫博物院的书籍。我了解到许多知识，书上说：紫禁城现名故宫博物院，这座“宫殿之海”，占地72万平方米，建筑面积15万平方米，有各式宫殿890座，房屋9000多间……故宫原来这么大啊!真让我大开眼界。在故宫里，既有雄伟的大殿和开阔的广场，又有华丽的后宫，和深邃的幽径，及机密的议政处所，还有帝王后妃休息娱乐的御花园。真是不简单!这些房屋的装潢大都华丽、古朴，深感皇家的气派。御花园内，苍松翠柏，奇花异石，楼阁亭台，曲池水榭，如天然画卷，使人流连其中。

我们首先参观了皇帝上早朝的地方——太和殿。在太和殿正中间是九龙至尊的龙椅。里面的物品全部都是用金子做的，豪华极了。在修建太和殿时，没有用到一跟钉，一根矛。全部是用木头穿插搭起来的。你们看古人，厉害吧?

参观完太和殿后，我们去参观了皇帝的寝宫——乾清宫。

乾清宫建于1402年，是明、清两代皇帝的寝宫。据说皇帝与皇后成亲的那天，是在乾清宫就寝的。在乾清宫的右边，摆着一张喜床。在喜床的周围贴满了“喜”字。说不定我们摸摸这个 “喜”字，可以沾一沾皇帝的福气呢!

我最喜欢的地方，要数皇帝的御花园了!为什么?因为皇的御花园里种满了许多美丽的花儿。有如霞似火的杜鹃花，娇媚迷人的红玫瑰，红艳艳的牡丹花，高洁淡雅的菊花，洁白如玉的玉兰花，清香四溢的茉莉花……清香四溢!在这美丽的花儿周围，种了许多树木。在花儿的衬托下，御花园增添了几分端庄和典雅。

【篇三：参观故宫】

今天，7月23日，我和妈妈来到了北京的故宫。故宫是古代皇宫，古称“紫禁城”。

故宫占地面积72万平方米，走进午门依次是三大殿，这是皇帝上朝、理事、会客的地方，后面的二殿二宫一园是皇帝日常生活的地方，而分布在东西两侧的便是皇太后、皇后、嫔妃与宫女们居住的宫殿了。

令我印象最深的宫殿还是太和殿。太和殿是故宫中最大的一个建筑。它是皇帝每天上朝朝政的地方，殿中游龙椅、屏风，并立有六根金柱，每个布置都有意义。看到这里，我感到好像看到朝中文武百官向皇帝朝拜的情景。

“九龙壁”也是令我难忘的一处景点。之所以为九条龙，是因为古代以一、三、五、七、九位吉祥数。这九条龙形态各异，颜色各不相同，相同的是它们眼光炯炯有神，让人一看顿生敬畏之心。

除此之外，我们还一座座小宫殿，还有让我惊奇的钟表馆、珍宝馆……故宫在我心中在每个中国人心中都是一座珍宝馆。

去年暑假，爸爸和我去参观闻名世界的北京故宫。

我们到达故宫的后门，买好票，请了一个导游，就进了雄伟的故宫后门。首先展现在我眼前的是一棵大槐树。导游说：当年崇桢皇帝就是吊死在这棵树上的。我们随着导游继续走，到了坤宁宫，坤宁宫是皇妃住的地方，这里风景优美，有许多枝繁叶茂的树木。这些房子大约有三米高，皇后就住在靠南方向的屋子里。对面是嫔妃住的西六宫，那里的屋子很暗，也很小。穿过书斋，就到了乾清宫，这是皇上上早朝的地方，乾清宫的正前方摆着一张镀金做的精美的龙椅。龙椅上刻有许多龙，有的龙双龙戏珠，有的龙互相缠绕，真是维妙维肖。我抬头往上一看，墙上有一块大大的匾，匾上写着正大光明四个大字，每当上朝时，正大光明这块匾就面对着各位大臣，仿佛告诫这些大臣们：凡是做事，都要正大光明的做。我站在乾清宫中间，仿佛看到了当时的皇上和众位大臣商议朝政时的气势。随后，导游还带我们参观了中和殿、保和殿等地方，最后，就到达了故宫的正门。

走出正门，我再一次回首遥望着这座古老的宫殿，心里默默的祝愿着：祝愿祖国繁荣富强，一代更比一代强。

假期里，妈妈带我去北京走了一遭。众所周知，北京在中国近代史上占据着很重要的位置，而其中最能反映中国近代的兴与衰的，还非故宫莫属。

故宫是个“宫”，就是皇帝老儿们办公和住的地方，正因如此，这里处处都显示着金碧辉煌。那金色的琉璃瓦，在阳光下闪着金光，好似龙的鳞片，很是吸引人。与金瓦对应的是一面面红墙，既不十分鲜艳夺目，也不黯淡无光，而是恰到好处地红着，可见工匠们的巧夺天工了。

接着，我们继续往前走。地上一块块砖码得整整齐齐。正在我们赞叹工匠们的心细时，导游让我们停下脚步，向上看。我往上一看，只见两个翘檐一前一后重叠在一起，后面的正好伸向前面角的最里端。这有什么稀奇?江南园林里到处都是。可它就是稀奇，因为它是“勾心斗角”。想想看，在勾心斗角十分严重的宫里，又有一处“勾心斗角”的景致，这难道不是一种巧合?

导游又发话了：前面是一个小殿，大家可以看一看。故宫实在太大了，我也走累了，赶紧停下来朝里张望。可里面的情景却令人失望：屋里光线很暗，隐约可看到桌椅板凳，屏风支架，笔墨纸砚等，已经非常陈旧，光线透不进去，屋子里黑糊糊的。

唉，声名显赫的故宫，外表这么华丽，住的地方却这么黑暗，当时的满清统治者他们的心理不也是和这屋里的光线一样黑吗?

故宫是一座历史悠久的宫殿。故宫位于北京市的中心，旧称紫禁城。是明、清两代的皇宫，无与伦比的古代建筑杰作，世界现存最大、最完整的古建筑群。

在暑假的时候，我和妈妈、姑姑去了故宫，故宫可以从天安门进，也可以从神武门进。我们是从天安门进的。由天安门进入，穿过一片青砖铺地的广场，便到达紫禁城的正门——午门。穿过午门，又是一个大广场，广场上有一金水桥。过桥经太和门便是雄伟的太和殿。经太和殿、中和殿、保和殿，穿过乾清门，便进入内廷，内廷分中路、东路和西路三条路线。如果是半日游，这三条路线只能游一条，一般可走中路。走中路可看乾清宫、交泰殿、坤宁宫、嫔妃所住的地方和御花园。一般来说，用半天时间游故宫，比较吃力。所以我们用了一天的时间才游完。天晚了，我依依不舍的跟着妈妈向门口走去，临走时我还在大门口照了好多的照片呢!

暑假里，爸爸妈妈带我去参观了台北故宫。故宫可不是只有北京才有的，台北也有一个故宫。妈妈告诉我北京的故宫是饺子皮，台北的故宫是饺子馅。为什么说台北故宫是饺子馅呢?听了下面的介绍，你就明白了。

台北故宫有六千多万件宝贝，样样都是独一无二的。让我印象最深刻的是雕象牙透花人物套球，套球一共有17层，而且每层都可以自由转动，套球下端还雕刻了两个栩栩如生的小人，真是鬼斧神工啊!还有一样宝贝也让我叹为观止，那就是雕橄榄核小舟。橄榄核大概就一块橡皮那么大，被雕刻成了小船。小船上的窗户可以推开，船上还雕刻了几个小人，最让我不敢相信的是船底居然雕刻了300多个字。古时候工匠的雕刻技术居然这么先进，真不可思议啊!爸爸妈妈和我都不禁赞叹道：真不愧是五千年的文明古国。

【篇八：参观故宫】

不知为什么，时间过的那么快，车子就驶到了故宫博物观门口。我带着紧张而又兴奋的心情步入了大门。

故宫内的大殿大都是红墙黄瓦，里面的装潢典雅端庄，充满了皇室风格。据说故宫里有9000多间房，而且全都是由木条一块一块拼成的，没有一个钉子，难以想象这样一座雄伟的宫殿只用了14年就完工。

故宫内最吸引人的要算“三大殿”，保和殿，太和殿，中和殿。我们先来到保和殿，我挤进人群，透过玻璃我看到那些皇帝的日用品早已没有往日的辉煌，那些陈旧的一切都仿佛在述说一个个真实古老的故事。向前走，一个很不起眼的小宫殿，没错，那就是“中和殿”，皇帝上朝时更衣的地方。接着又来到了“太和殿”，这里便是皇帝上朝的地方，它建在高八米的汉白玉台基上，屋顶上雕刻着12只珍禽异兽，大殿内一把象征了至高无上的龙椅，端端正正的摆在中间，形象的表现了皇帝天下独尊的磅礴气势。

故宫里除了各种用途的宫殿，连地上的砖块也有一些秘密，听说地上的砖块雕刻着999种人物和植物，还有不少的历史故事呢。

【篇九：参观故宫】

今天，我们学校组织去故宫玩。

我们走进大门，“哇，这里可真大啊!”我们首先参观了故宫的建筑结构。观察了一下，故宫的所有宫殿，发现这些宫殿都是沿着南北中轴线排列，并向两旁展开，南北取直，左右对称。这条中轴线不仅贯穿在紫禁城内，而且南达永定门，北到鼓楼几乎贯穿了整个市区，它的气势宏伟，规划严整，极为壮观。

我们从太和殿一直浏览到御花园，真是叹为观止!在宫里，最引人注目的要算是“三大殿”了：太和殿，中和殿，保和殿。它们都建在汉白玉砌成的8米高的台基上，远远望去，犹如神话中的琼楼玉宇。第一座太和殿是皇帝举行大典的地方，人们称它为“金銮殿”。中和殿是皇帝去太和殿举行大典时休息的地方;保和殿是每年除夕皇帝赐宴的场所。这仅仅是故宫的建筑，而故宫中的宝物数不胜数……

故宫一游使我流连忘返，故宫的建筑真是个奇迹!

The Hero in My Heart

As we know， most peoplehave heroes in their hearts. For me, Dr Norman Bethune is the hero in my heart.He was a great doctor from Canada.

Dr Bethune was good at performing operations.And taking photos was his hobby. In 1938， he came toChina. He opened hospitals and invented medical tools. He worked so hard thathe saved thousands of Chinese people. He didn’t stop totake care of his own injured hand and died.

I am deeply moved by his stories. So I’ll work hard today and do my best to helpothers.

I have many dreams, such as I am rich in the future. Therefore, I can buy

all what I want. But my greatest dream is that I want to be an astronaut. Our

country develops fast and our space make great progress in the last several

decades. It has great achievements. All of our country are proud of it.

Therefore, I want to be one of this amazing area. In order to make my dream come

true, I must work hard now. So that I can go to a good university to learn more

knowledge. I hope my dream can come true one day.

The shared bikes like Mobike and Ofobring great convenience to people. You

needn’t lock them by simply using your smart phone. They can take you where the

subway and bus don’t go. And they can be left anywhere in public for the next

user.

However, bad things happen. Some people damage the QR code on the bike, or

use their own lock, which causes trouble toother users.

In my opinion, it’s difficult to turn these people’s ideas in a short time.

Therefore, bike-sharing companies like Mobike and Ofo need to do something. For

example, those who damage the bike should pay for their actions. Also, because

people use their real name to registeras a user, it’s a good way to connect to

one’spersonal credit.

In the end, what I want to say is to take good care of public services.

It is true that no one can goes on well all the time. We will meet some

difficulties now and then. The one who runs away from the test may be a loser

and the one who has the courage to face the challenge may make breakthrough. It

is important to have confidence, and never to be afraid of meeting difficulty.

When it comes, we should not run away. Regardless of the result, we will gain

precious experience and become stronger. My parents stand by my side all the

time, and they give me the confidence to fight. I am so thankful for them. They

give me the confidence, which is the very important thing in my life.

Now, the new semester has begun for more than one week. I gradually adapt

to my new life in senior school. In senior school, my biggest feeling is busy,

for I have classes all the day and teachers leave us a lot of homework. In the

morning, I have two periods for morning reading, Chinese and English, beginning

from 7:00. After that, I have four periods in the morning and four other in the

afternoon. There are many more subjects than in middle school, Chinese, math,

English, physics, chemistry, history and so on. Sometimes, I am afraid of seeing

so many textbooks in my desk. In addition, the contents are much more difficult

than before. Math and physics are the most difficult ones for me. No matter how

hard I work, I still can’t do well in them, which makes me frustrated.

Therefore, in the new beginning, I must change my learning strategies to make my

work more effective. All in all, my new life in new school is good and rich,

though it’s busy.

However mean your life is, meet it and live it; do not shun it and call it

hard names. It is not as bad as you are.

It looks poorest when you are richest. The fault-finder will find faults in

paradise. Love your life, poor as it is.

You may perhaps have some pleasant, thrilling, glorious hours, even in a

poor-house. The setting sun is reflected from the windows of the alms-house as

brightly as from the rich mans abode; the snow melts before its door as early

in the spring. I do not see but a quiet mind may live as contentedly there, and

have as cheering thoughts, as in a palace.

It is widely accepted that to work independently has the obvious advantage

that it can prove one’s ability. However, I believe that teamwork is more

important in the modern society and teamwork sprit has become a required quality

by more and more companies.

In the first place, we are situated in a complicated society and we often

encounter tough problems that are beyond our ability. It is especially at this

moment that teamwork proves to be exceedingly important. With the help of the

team, these problems can be solved easily and quickly, which could improve work

efficiency.

In the second place, teamwork provides a chance to cooperate with workmate,

it will make a friendly and enjoyable work environment, which is an important

factor influencing employees’ belief in the company as a good workplace.

Finally, teamwork contributes to the prosperity of the companies. With all

workmates’ knowledge combined, the companies possess high work efficiency and an

ability to deal with whatever problems. As a result, the companies can make more

profits and develop more quickly.

In sum, teamwork is very important, no one could live individually, they

must rely on others in some way. Hence, work together could make life

easier.

On October 1, I did not go out as usual.

Since it was National Day, 61th anniversary of my homeland, like many people, my parents and I just sat in the couch and watch TV.

We didn’t want to miss the program, parade. We were all excited when we saw such beautiful and magnificent scene.

There were so many people gathered together to celebrate the 61th anniversary.

From their smile, I can feel their happy, their proud and confidence.

I feel proud there are many advanced weapons to secure our country.

We, Chinese, are never aggressive. We love peace.

We know how to secure the peace because Chinese is the victim of war.

When I saw 61 flower buses passed through Tian An Men, I am so excited.
