进了午门，就是太和门，太和门前还有金水桥。太和门在明朝，特别是明朝前朝的时候，是皇帝和大臣们讨论，处理国家大事，也就是上早朝的地方。所以，太和门的地位还是相当重要的。

穿过太和门，望见了太和殿，简单的说，太和殿是皇帝权力的象征，是举行最高级别的仪式和大典的地方。

三层石台上共有18个铜香炉，象征着清朝的18个行省，龟、鹤在传说中都是长寿的动物，在太和殿两边摆上龟、鹤，象征着国运永昌。每当大典时，就在龟、鹤的肚子里和香炉里加上香料，然后点燃，于是龟嘴，鹤嘴和香炉一起散出缕缕青烟，使太和殿显得更加神秘、庄严。太和殿东西两边分别是日晷和嘉量，在等级最高的太和殿两边摆上他们，表明皇帝有规定时间和计量的权力，象征着皇权的至高无上。

太和殿地面铺着砖，是一种亮亮的带有一点墨绿色的方砖。那么，它是怎么烧制的呢?首先是选土，工匠们将泥用水浸透，再反复摔打，让它变得结实，这道工序叫“练泥”。泥练好后，装入模具，还要进一步踩实，才能制成砖坯。刚制成的砖坯还不能放入窑中，需慢慢地阴干，再入窑烧制。一烧就是130天，烧出砖，还要用桐浸泡49天。经过这么复杂的工艺烧成的砖，还要经过严格的检查，要达到“敲之有声，断之无孔”的程度才能使用。

铺砖也很讲究。据记载，一个瓦工加两名壮工，每天只能墁5块砖。太和殿共铺砖4178块，整个紫禁城用了10万多块!你能算出这一项多么巨大的工作量!又是一笔多么大的费用吗!?

后来我们又参观了很多大大小小的宫殿，我在感叹故宫的雄伟之余，不禁让我联想到：这中间既包含着工匠们多少的汗水、泪水和鲜血，也包含着他们多少的聪明和才智!
