最严重的时候，医生曾要求他立即住院，接受手术治疗，否则就有可能失明。可是他却说：“没时间住院啊，能不能先利用药物保守治疗?”带着3个月的药物，张渠伟重新回到了工作岗位，一桩一桩的工作让他分身乏术，连复查都是通过电话联系医院，让医生根据口述症状帮忙开药。

真情的付出也有了回报。据数据统计，渠县四年共减贫136610人，贫困发生率从12.1%降到0.6%，这一条扶贫之路，张渠伟走得辛苦，却依旧坚定。

“获此殊荣，我仅是扶贫战线的代表之一。”节目播出后，张渠伟在接受封面新闻记者采访时表示，这份殊荣对他而言更多的是压力和责任。“唯有扎根扶贫一线，更加努力地工作和顽强地拼搏，为脱贫攻坚做出积极贡献!为乡村振兴奠定坚实基础!”张渠伟说。
