《现代汉语规范字典》中"妇女"一词的含意,仅指"成年女子"并无其他特殊意指.已婚女子被称作"妇人".

The word itself, "Halloween," actually has its origins in the Catholic Church. It comes from a contracted corruption of All Hallows Eve. The Jack-o-lantern custom probably comes from Irish folklore. As the tale is told, a man named Jack, who was notorious as a drunkard and trickster, tricked Satan into climbing a tree. Jack then carved an image of a cross in the trees trunk, trapping the devil up the tree. Jack made a deal with the devil that, if he would never tempt him again, he would promise to let him down the tree.

According to the folk tale, after Jack died, he was denied entrance to Heaven because of his evil ways, but he was also denied access to Hell because he had tricked the devil. 我国于1922年开始纪念"三八"节。中国妇女第一次群众性的纪念"三八"节活动是1924年在广州举行的。

1949年12月，中央人民政府政务院规定每年的3月8日为妇女节。联合国从1975年国际妇女年开始庆祝国际妇女节，确认普通妇女争取平等参与社会的传统。1977年大会通过了一项决议，请每个国家按照自己的历史和民族传统习俗，选定一年中的某一天为联合国妇女权利和世界和平日。对联合国而言，国际妇女节定为3月8日。
