A factory was discharging waste containing methyl mercury in low concentrations into the sea and as this pollutant passed through food chains it became more concentrated in the tissues of marine organisms until it reached toxic levels.

As a consequence 649 people died from eating fish and shellfish contaminated with mercury and 3500 people suffered from mercury poisoning.

从前，有一座大山，山上树木茂盛，葱葱郁郁。小鸟们在树上建了家，幸福地生活着。由于有些人做着发财梦，想砍伐树木做成地板、家具来赚钱。于是人们上山大量砍伐树木。

这一天，有一名伐木工走到一棵高大笔直的白杨树前，抡起斧头就要砍。白杨树看见了，惊叫起来：“你不要砍我，你不能砍我！”伐木工停住了，奇怪地说：“凭什么不能砍你？”树回答说：“我们可以绿化环境，可以让空气变得倍加清新，甚至还可以防止洪水泛滥呢！再说，小鸟也离不开我们。你们砍掉一个我，也就是少了一份安全保障！你们总不想提前死吧？”伐木工一愣，又不以为然地想：我才不管这些呢，只要能现在发财就好。伐木工便挥斧用尽全身力气砍了起来。一棵棵可怜的树倒在了他们的斧头下。

小鸟飞回来了，看到自己的家没了，只有光秃秃的一片，痛苦极了，伤心的眼泪像断了线的珍珠往下流。它飞在空中，大声地号叫：“人类，你们千万不要再砍伐树木了，给我们一个安定的家吧！”

现在人们的生活越来越好，生活水平也在渐渐提高。各处的发展也是高效率提升，同时随着工业的进步，整个地球都工业化了，人们也整天过着懒惰的生活整天吃喝玩乐，却没有注意到周围环境的变化;也随着地球工业化，所剩的自然区和树林在地球上已经屈指可数了。因为人类没有节制的的滥排废水造成水资源污染，乱扔塑料袋造成白色污染，汽车和工厂排出的废气造成大气污染，所以才会造成地球环境的污染不断加剧越来越严重。而那些正在享受工业化带来的快乐的人们，丝毫没有注意到周围环境的变化。

环境对于我们来说是非常重要的。它就像一把大伞，为我们遮风挡雨并保护我们的家园不被沙漠侵蚀，而我们却在刻意破坏这把保护家园的大伞。如果我们离开了这把神奇的大伞，那么我们的家园就会想撒哈拉大沙漠一样，一片沙土色，丝毫没有生机，死气沉沉，荒无人烟。所以，为了守护我们美丽的家园，为了让我们的家园更美好，让我们一起来守护这个养育我们的家园吧!

有的人把电池乱扔，他们从来没想过一节电池带给自然环境的危害，就那一节纽扣大的电池能使60万吨水受到污染;如果电池烂在土里，会使一立方米的土地是去利用价值。这样严重的后果人们完全没有想过。

有的人将塑料袋，他们们完全没有想到一个塑料袋带给自然环境的危害，每个塑料袋的分解需要200年以上，会污染周围的土的质量和水的质量。全球每年耗费掉的塑料袋，它在生产中所耗费的原油超过1000万桶，而处理时要耗费的电量更是大得惊人。

生命与绿色拥抱，人类与生态共存。让我们远离环境污染;让我们放下塑料袋;让我们放下污染环境的一切。重拾绿色生态，不要让我们美丽的家园变成黄土片片。让我们共同走向美好，绿色的明天，走向辉煌，灿烂又环保的未来!

保护环境

今天，爸爸带我去公园玩。刚进门就看见公园里的树枝上、草地上、小河里、花朵上、路面上，到处都是塑料袋和垃圾袋，这些都是人们随手丢弃的。风吹过，袋子就满天飞舞，落在了各个地方，公园再也美不起来了。

我们继续往前走着，走到渔池边，一个路人忽然朝地上吐了一口痰。痰里面都是细菌，吐在地上干了后，随空气传播，这些病菌会被人体吸入，从而危害人们的健康。

在回家的路上，一辆冒着黑烟的汽车从我们身边开过，一股浓重的尾气弥漫在空气里。“快捂住鼻子!”爸爸提醒道。过后，我问爸爸：“为什么要捂住鼻子?尾气有什么危害呢?”爸爸说“尾气里面含有重金属，而重金属不光对人们的身体危害很大，对地球上的生物生长也有着重大的影响。”原来汽车尾气的危害这么大啊!

我们要好好保护环境，做到少用甚至不用塑料袋;养成良好的卫生习惯，不随地吐痰;少制造尾气，从自身做起;宣传一些环保知识，让大家也来保护环境，保护我们共同的家园，让我们的生活环境变得更干净、更美好。

我国的森林资源已经非常宝贵了，森林资源非常紧缺。建国初期我国拥有112亿立方米原木，因为人口增加了，毁灭森林，改造农田而砍伐了100亿立方米树木。(中国煤炭剩余900亿吨，可供开采不到一百年。中国石油剩余储量23亿吨，可开采14年)中国土地面积960万平方公里，约占世界总量的%7。人口13亿，约占世界的%22。而森林面积仅占世界的%4.6。林木蓄积量不足世界总量的%3。人均森林面积128立方米只有世界水平的1/5，排世界的121位。人均森林蓄积量9.048立方米，只有世界平均水平的1/8，排世界第134位。年人均消耗木材0.22立方米，比我国高近三倍多，差距十分明显。

由于多种原因土地沙漠化、水灾、旱灾等生态问题十分严重，生态建设任重道远。目前我国荒漠化土地367万平方公里，占全国土地的38.2，而且还以每年3436平方公里在不断扩展，总我国体上仍在恶化，我国水土流失面积276万平方公里，占全国土地的27.8，每年还在以100万公顷的面积增加。

听了我的介绍，大家一定觉得和恐怖吧!但是只要保护森林，就可以拯救大自然了。

How long haven’t you saw the star at night in the city? Would you miss the fresh and sweet air? Have noticed the river had seriously been polluted?
