Dear Sir,

I am writing to apply for a British Council scholarship to study in Britain. I did my five years basic training in medicine at Shanghai University. After this I successfully completed a one-year postgraduate course in Ophthalmology at the Peoples General Hospital, where I am at present serving a two-year probation in the Eye Clinic.

As a result of the publication in 2003 of my article in New Scientist entitled "Soft and Rigid Contact Lenses ", which was based on a survey of 37 patients over 6 months, I made contact with Dr. Li Ming of the Capital Hospital and Dr. Ma Li of the University College Hospital. I have received their help and advice with my current research project, which is a two-year survey of the acceptance of various types of contact lenses in 200 patients.

Cassim filled as many bags of gold as he wanted. But when the robbers

Thanks for your coming, I fell so happy , I have this chance to stand there

to share my ideas about my hometown with you all.

A culture creats a city, the water and soil bring up the people. At the

foot of Erlang mountain, in the middle of Sichuan province, lies a small town

named Tian Quan. I am proud to say: it is my hometown.

Wherever I go, Tian Quan stays in my deep memory forever. I can not forget

the place where I was born and grow up, I can not forget the place where

surrounded by green mountains and water, I can not forget the good and honest

people who working hard in there, I can not forget every river, every street

there.

Standing at the top of the WenBi mountain, you will catch a bird’s eye view

of the whole Tian Quan. You will find it is a beautiful picture including the

mordern colour and old smell.

Looking at the lovly provious animals , such as panda, Takin, Golden

monkey. You will thinks the nature has special power to make life so

wonderful.

My hometown has a long history of culture. There is the

tea-horse-accient-way, which attracts Chinese and foreign tourists to visit .

Walking on the tea-horse-accient-way, you can’t help sign in regret how long our

culture is!

Tian Quan is also famous for it’s culture of tea. In summer , the farmers

work on the tea plantations, you will regard it as a lively picture. If you have

a chance to work on the tea plantations, you can’t miss it! You can enjoy the

tea and learn more about tea at the same time .How wonderful it is!

that impresses me most is Spring Festival.

The author of Spring Festival is an Chengna. A long time ago, there was a

monster named "Nian". It had two sharp horns and covered with plum red scales.

Bigger than an elephant, fiercer than a tiger. It looks terrible. Every new

years Eve, "Nian" will come to the village to eat people. One year "Nian" came

again, and a young man said, "its better to fight with it than to let it eat!"

The young people nearby picked up the weapons on the ground and attacked Nian

one after another. Unfortunately, they were not the opponents of Nian, so they

were all eaten by Nian.

Since then, "Nian" has become more fierce, so every new years Eve people

Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.I

have been in ballparks for seventeen years and have never received anything but

kindness and encouragement from you fans.

Which of you wouldn’t consider it the highlight of his career just to

associate with them for even one day?Sure I’m lucky.Who wouldn’t consider it an

honor to have known Jacob Ruppert? Also, the builder of baseball’s greatest

empire, Ed Barrow? To have spent six years with that wonderful little fellow,

Miller Huggins? Then to have spent the next nine years with that outstanding

leader, that smart student of psychology, the best manager in baseball today,

Joe McCarthy?Sure I’m lucky.When the New York Giants, a team you would give your

right arm to beat, and vice versa, sends you a gift - that’s something.

When everybody down to the groundskeepers and those boys in white coats

remember you with trophies -- that’s something.

When you have a wonderful mother-in-law who takes sides with you in

squabbles with her own daughter -- that’s something.When you have a father and a

mother who work all their lives so you can have an education and build your body

-- it’s a blessing.When you have a wife who has been a tower of strength and

shown more courage than you dreamed existed -- that’s the finest I know.So, I

close in saying that I might have been given a bad break, but Ive got an awful

lot to live for.

Dear Xiao Wang,

I am delighted to know that you will be able to visit me for a week during

the National Day holiday. I am looking forward to your visit and to the

opportunity to catch up. Welcome to my home in Nanjing!

As you know, Nanjing has many places of interest to see, to discover, and

to enjoy. Among its historical sites are stone city wall, the Confucius Temple

with its magnificent night view, and Dr. Sun Yetsens Mausoleum. With all its

universities, Nanjing is a cultural center, offering an abundance of artistic

and musical performances. Its also a city of beautiful gardens and parks, such

as the Xuanwu Lake Park. With all these features, we will have a fun-filled

week, especially that in early-October, there are many sunny and mild days for

outdoor activities. So, I would suggest visiting these places first, and

deciding on the others as our week develops.

Finally, since at this time of the year the weather gets a little chilly in

the evening, I would suggest that you bring some warm clothing with you. Also,

as there will be crowds of people at the stations and on the trains, you need to

be very careful with your belongings!
