The first Arbor Day took place on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska. It was the brainchild of Julius Sterling Morton (1832-1902)， a Nebraska journalist and politician originally from Michigan. Throughout his long and productive career, Morton worked to improve agricultural techniques in his adopted state and throughout the United States when he served as President Grover Clevelands Secretary of Agriculture. But his most important legacy is Arbor Day.

Morton (photo, right) felt that Nebraskas landscape and economy would benefit from the wide-scale planting of trees. He set an example himself planting orchards, shade trees and wind breaks on his own farm and he urged his neighbours to follow suit. Mortons real opportunity, though, arrived when he became a member of Nebraskas state board of agriculture. He proposed that a special day be set aside dedicated to tree planting and increasing awareness of the importance of trees. Nebraskas first Arbor Day was an amazing success. More than one million trees were planted. A second Arbor Day took place in 1884 and the young state made it an annual legal holiday in 1885, using April 22nd to coincide with Mortons birthday.

In the years following that first Arbor Day, Mortons idea spread beyond Nebraska with Kansas, Tennessee, Minnesota and Ohio all proclaiming their own Arbor Days. Today all 50 states celebrate Arbor Day although the dates may vary in keeping with the local climate. 自1981年12月以来，中国全民义务植树累计超过350亿株。中国正在实施“ 三北 ”和长江中下游地区重点防护林建设、退耕还林还草、野生动植物保护及自然保护区建设、天然林保护等六大林业重点工程。至2000年底，中国的森林覆盖率已达16.55%，城市建城区人均公共绿地提高到6.52 平方米，全国自然保护区总面积超过1亿公顷。

这天上午天气晴朗，阳光普照着大地。我们乘车来到郊外的一片空地下车后，我就和同学们一起拿着铁锹、水桶、扛着小树苗。来到空地里开始种树。我是第一小组，我们的任务是为小树浇水。师若琪是第二小组，他们的任务是给小树施肥。于东立是第三小组，他们的任务是给小树挖坑。松土栽小树苗。大伙各自忙着做自己该做的事，干的热火朝天。兴致昂然的。每个人脸上都露出愉快微笑。等他们把树种好后该我们小组给小树苗浇水了，我们就到河边提了满满一桶水给小树苗浇水。仿佛看着白花花清亮亮的水倒入小树苗的嘴里它们大口大口地喝着好开心还一边喝一边说：“谢谢同学们辛勤劳动我们在你们的细心呵护下，一定会长成有用之才的将来造服人类”我听了后非常高兴更加感到自豪，想到多年以后这里我和同学们种植的小树苗会一棵棵长大成才变成一大片绿荫荫茂密的树林那时我们再来这里会是怎样一种心情啊!正是因为有了向我们这样爱护和关心大自然的人们。我们的世界才会变得更美好更绿色环保。

这次植树节活动对我来说真是增长了很多见识，懂得了人类只有爱护大自然花草树木与它们和平相处我们世界才会更美丽富饶。

一年一度的植树节到了。早上，风和日丽，天空中飘着朵朵白云。

妈妈带我和哥哥到公园里植树。我们像快乐的小鸟一样“飞”到了公园里。

到了那里，我看见了小朋友们和爸爸妈妈一起植树，有的搬树苗，有的拿着锄头挖坑，有的拿着铁锹铲土，还有的拿着水桶到河边打水……他们干得热火朝天，汗流满面也顾不上擦。

我和哥哥找到一个地方，妈妈用锄头挖了个坑，哥哥把树苗放进去，我也紧紧扶着小树苗，生怕小树苗倒下。我用铁铲给小树苗填土。填呀填，树坑里的土填满了。树苗已经稳稳当当地站住了。哥哥用脚把土踩紧，我再把水慢慢地倒进土里，树苗喝饱了水，好像变得更茁壮了。

只要我们人人都植一棵树，那我们的地球妈妈将变得更加美丽。明年，我还要来植树!

今天我特别高兴，因为大队辅导员要带我们要去植树。

早上八点，我们就出发了。一路上，两边翠绿的麦田，一眼望不到边，金黄的油菜花随风起伏，小鸟欢快地叫着，我们迫不及待地来到万安小学，植树活动已经正式开始了，我们就排着队向山上前进。

到了山坡上，我们争先恐后地干起来，我们一起拿好自带的工具开始挖坑。首先把上面的树叶和野草铲到一旁，再把土放到另一边，树坑挖好后我们就把树苗放入坑内，然后让一个人扶着，又把水桶里的水浇到树坑里，接着把剩余的土填入坑内后，最后用力把土踩实，我们的树就栽好了。

今天我不但学会了植树,还从课堂走进田野，亲近自然。下山时大家都兴高采烈地说:“植树活动多有意义啊!”植树活动成了我们记忆中美好的瞬间。

绿色充满朝气，绿色是属于大自然的颜色。千百年来，绿色为人类所喜爱。

“绿遍山原白满川”写出了绿的广泛;“接天莲叶无穷碧”描绘了绿的彻底;“碧玉妆成一树高”体现了绿的飘逸。城市中的绿，是令人心旷神怡的美;乡村里的绿，是无拘无束的美。

城市道路边一排排高大挺拔的树，一片片青翠欲滴的叶，是清洁工人劳动的结晶。他们不顾汽车驶过的尘土飞扬，不顾剪理枝叶的辛苦劳累，不顾早出晚归的辛劳，每天默默无闻地用自己勤劳的双手为城市带来一片新绿。

乡村土地上一棵棵朝气蓬勃的小草，远远望去，是一块块绿油油的地毯。那是农民们精心侍弄出来的，是每天不厌其烦地修剪，反反复复地浇水，才有这一块块绿地。质朴的农民们辛勤的劳动让农村有了一份清新的空气。

城市公园里的一块块绿地，永远是那样的精神饱满。因为园丁工人每天的浇灌，让花花草草每天都能吮吸到清凉的水，每天都能痛痛快快地洗一回澡。园丁工人的认真负责，让草儿能茂盛地生长，让花儿能尽情地开放!孩子们在花草间嬉戏追逐，笑声回荡在天地间。

植树节期间，全国上下都扛起铁锹，提起树种，拎起水桶到郊外去种树。在和煦的春风的吹拂下，小树摇晃着脑袋向人们示意，似乎坚信着自己一定会茁壮成长，会长成参天大树，为人们送去一世阴凉。

绿是多么美好!在这个明媚的春天，让我们为城市创造一份生机盎然的绿!

It was fine on March 12 ,2001 .I got up early that day .All the students in our school went to the hill to plant trees .
