Dear Sir,

I am writing to apply for a British Council scholarship to study in Britain. I did my five years basic training in medicine at Shanghai University. After this I successfully completed a one-year postgraduate course in Ophthalmology at the Peoples General Hospital, where I am at present serving a two-year probation in the Eye Clinic.

As a result of the publication in 2003 of my article in New Scientist entitled "Soft and Rigid Contact Lenses ", which was based on a survey of 37 patients over 6 months, I made contact with Dr. Li Ming of the Capital Hospital and Dr. Ma Li of the University College Hospital. I have received their help and advice with my current research project, which is a two-year survey of the acceptance of various types of contact lenses in 200 patients.

Despite their help, I feel that I cannot make real progress in this field unless I can actually have day-to-day contact with these specialists. I would therefore like to continue my research at either the Capital Hospital or the UCH as soon as my probationary period here is completed, and I would like to study in Britain for two years.

I enclose a detailed curriculum vitae and an offprint of my article, together with two letters of recommendation from Dr. Li Ming and Dr. Ma Li.

Mid-autumn Festival is a popular and important lunar harvest festival

celebrated by Chinese people. The festival is held on the 15thday of the eighth

month in the Chinese calendar. There are some traditions in this holiday. For

example, people would have a big dinner with their families. After dinner, they

often enjoy the full moon which is round and bright. The other tradition of

mid-autumn festival is eating moon cake. Moon cake is the essential of that day,

which means reunion. As time goes by, there are various kinds of moon cakes, but

they are much more expensive than before. I like mid-autumn festival because my

families will get together and have a big dinner on that day.

爸爸今年40岁了，是个铁杆球迷，只要电视里播放球赛，他可以做到“废寝忘食”，爸爸和足球是分不开的一个整体。可从这件事使我不得不改变了这个想法。

我渐渐地明白了爸爸的心意：他关心我的成长胜过他对足球的厚爱，在他心中，我的升学考试比足球赛重要。我为有这样的足球迷爸爸而自豪!

同学们忙得差不多了，我拿起拖把，沾了点水，便学着妈妈的样貌拖了起来。原先，拖地也就是有讲究的呀!拖低的时候要用力，不然拖地就没用了。我拖了一会，腰就酸死了，都直不起来了。拖完，我把拖把洗了一下，我的眼睛都瞪大了，一桶清水都变成污水了，比墨水还黑。我们打扫了一下午，最后让教室再现“青春”了。我看了看同学，豆大的汗水从脸颊上落了下来，衣服全都被汗水侵占了，同学们又用脏手往脸上一划，脸蛋都成小花猫了。这一次，我才明白，原先打扫就是那么辛苦的事。今后，我必须要好好帮忙妈妈做家务。

星期四下午，我们虽然都很累，但十分快乐，因为我们明白了劳动才就是最光荣的。

我们和大人一起搬来大块不长苔藓的石头，扔到河中央作基础。接下来就是我们小孩子爱干的活儿了，在“小岛”上收集很多石头，一块块地往河里扔，水花四溅，小石头落水的声音不绝于耳。令我们没想到的事发生了，我们扔下去的石头，会被水流冲走一段距离，我们坚持不懈地往原目标位置填石头。过了很长时间，一条简单的“水路”就形成了，水流的速度也减慢了。

我们叫忙着拍照的妈妈过来再做一回小马过河的实验，看看水路是否可以走人了。妈妈半弓着腰，小心翼翼地走一步，顿一下，试试我们的石头是否结实牢固。经过妈妈来回过河，证明我们的水路基础已经很实了。接下来，我和表哥继续往水路上铺石头，使它更加平稳，过河时不会坍塌。

我们忙了好久，“水路”在旬阳的映照下，闪耀着金黄色的光辉。五一节，我为自己和来这里游山玩水的人做了一回劳动者，虽然很辛苦，但是看着自己的劳动成果，我感到很欣慰。

Firstly, keep good health. A healthy body is the premise to face presure.

It’s the least capacity to cope with stress when a person is sick. Secondly, to

accept the pressure. The reason why many people can not cope with stress is that

they resist and escape it. Actually, there always is trouble and problems once

we chose a path to go, because almost everything worth doing is not so easy.

Thirdly, solve the problem, rather than complain about it. Many people complain

about the surroundings and don’t think about the solutions when faced with

problems. We all know that complaint can do nothing but only let you down. As

long as the problem not solved, the pressure is always there. Fourthly, tell

others your pressure and get help from them. Lots of pressure can’t be solved by

our own and the rational way is talking the pressure to workmates or friends to

get help from them. But the premise to do so is that we don’t intend to put

pressure to others but to seek help and support to solve problems.

Of course, there also are some other ways to cope with stress, such as

readjusting goal and expectation, playing games to relax, even shopping or

eating. But no matter how, solving the problem that causes stress is the best

way.

I have a dream. Compared toMartin Luther King’s, my dream is very small. I

want to be a teacher in the future. And then I can have a two long vacations for

traveling. I can travel around the world. I can go America, Canada, New York,

Like tangible cultural heritages such as the Great Wall and the Forbidden

City, intangible cultural heritages like Peking Opera and

Confucius-commemorating rituals are equally crucial. We should make our utmost

efforts to preserve intangible heritages because, without their physical form of

existence, they are in greater risk of extinction.

According to UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible

Cultural Heritage (2003), all forms of social customs and habits, folklore,

performing arts, rituals, oral traditions, festivals, traditional crafts and

various knowledge and practices about nature and universe can be classified as

intangible cultural heritages. As a country consisting of a great diversity of

ethnic groups and with time-honored history and civilization, China abounds in

intangible cultural heritages. Cultural heritages connect modern people with the

historical past, allowing them to acquire a cultural and historical identity.

Without cultural heritages, we would be rendered absolutely rootless and we

would find it hard to cope with challenges at present and in the future.

However, the modernization process poses mounting threats to intangible

heritages. Many people have a blind faith in the latest electronic devices. It

is also pathetic to see elderly people in possession of such legacies pass away

without transmitting them to the younger generation. Faced with those

challenges, we should both preserve and renovate our ancestral heritages so that

we can help contribute to the cultural diversity of the world and return to our

spiritual homeland in this age of impersonal science and technology.

我长大了，真的，真的。看，我的身高已经168cm了，体重也已经有60kg了。我不但在身体上长大了，还在行动上长大了呢！

到车上，看见526车排下方的座位没人，于就是我就做了下去。我的心蹦蹦直跳，生怕像许多小说写得那样。我用我那紧张而又快僵硬的头转过去看周围的乘客，只见有的在呼呼大睡，有的在发信息，还有的在往窗外看。还好车上要么就是文质彬彬的小伙子，要么就是一些和蔼可亲的中年人，要么就是梳着长发的阿姨……没有一个有坏人相。

突然上来一个戴着墨镜，养着长胡子的大约三十岁左右的男子。我吓坏了，想这就就是电视上、小说上坏人的样貌啊！（之后我发现我电视和小说看多了）。

没想到他竟然走了过来，还和我说话：“小朋友，……”“你……你干……干嘛啊？”他不就是要打劫吧？我打断了他的话，断断续续地说到。“请你让一下好不好？”哦！原先我里面那个位置就是空的，他要我让一下。哎~怎样不早说，我已经汗流浃背了。

最后，广播传来了目的地已到的消息。我飞快下了车，新里充满无限的激动。

望着526远去的背影，望着旁边“育才培训中心”几个大字，望着口袋里的三枚硬币，我想我不再需要那两枚了。此刻，我真想立刻“飞”到班级里，对我的好朋友们喊一声：“我长大了！”不仅仅过瘾，还和他们一齐分享了我的喜悦！

我看着电视上的公益广告，不禁苦笑道：““唉，现在再多公益广告有什么用啊!不文明的现象还是随处可见。““说着，我又想起了那件事。““

那是一个晴朗的下午，我拿着新买的小树苗，小铲子和小水桶，哼着歌，迈着轻盈的步子，向葫芦坝的山上走去，准备在山上种棵小树，为保护环境作份贡献。来到山顶，费了九牛二虎之力，把小树种下了。

我喜滋滋的看着小树。这时，走来一位摩登女郎，穿着一件粉红色的连衣裙和一双擦得油亮的高跟鞋，全身喷满了刺鼻的香水，还带着一只可爱的吉娃娃狗，迈着猫步向山上走来。

那摩登女郎走到我的小树面前，随手摘下一根树枝，玩弄起来。接着，随着一声；““咳!““一口痰在空中打了一个弧圈，落在了我的小树身上。紧跟着，那只吉娃娃狗也走到我的小树面前，稍稍抬起右腿，一泡黄色，带着刺鼻臭味的尿准确无误的撒在小树身上，还冒着丝丝白烟。

我看眼前的情景，顿时气得火冒三丈，大步流星地走到那女郎面前，扯着嗓子让她给我的小树道歉。她看了我一眼，当我是空气似的走开了。

我看着遍体鳞伤的小树，泪水在眼眶里打着转。

现在，在家里看着公益广告，希望每个人都规范自己的行为，做个文明的人。我相信，这样的话，我们生活的世界会更加美好。
