Spring Festival is one of the most important traditional festivals in our

country. There are many customs, such as picking up the God of wealth, stepping

on the new year, setting off firecrackers and so on. Well, lets choose one to

talk about! Lets set off firecrackers!

The starting point of setting off firecrackers is the same as that of

lighting up lights. But the lights only have light, but no sound. Light can ward

off evil spirits, and sound can ward off evil spirits. It is said that the

setting off of firecrackers was related to Jiang Ziya. It is said that Jiang

Ziya helped King Wu of Zhou exterminate King Zhou of Shang Dynasty and went to

Fengshen platform to confer gods. All the meritorious officials were sealed off,

but his wife Ma came. When Jiang Ziya was fishing in the Weihe River to wait for

King Wen of Zhou, his wife thought he was poor and stamped off. Now that Jiang

Ziya is fighting for the worlds deities, she came to ask for the throne. Jiang

Ziya said angrily: "you can be a broomstar. You can only go down to the world in

30 nights. You can drill where it is dark.". Later, firecrackers were set off

during the Spring Festival to break the broomstar, leaving her nowhere to

hide.

Speaking of setting off firecrackers, I think of my father and I set off

firecrackers together. It was the night of the new years Eve. The red lanterns

in the community had already been hung high on the trees. My father and I

secretly bought some firecrackers and set off firecrackers at the designated

place. We took a very large board and padded it under it to avoid making a big

hole in the floor. The board is about two meters long and one meter wide. We let

the people around us get out of the way, and then we started to set off

firecrackers. I hold a lighter in my left hand and a firecracker in my right

hand. I slowly light the firecrackers. The sound of gunpowder makes my heart

thumping. Im so scared! As a result, the firecrackers exploded in a few seconds

after I threw them out. I jumped up happily and succeeded in setting off

Nowadays, any Chinese can enjoy the luxury of owning a private car - if he or she can afford it. we have much in common regarding ow education, background, interests and hobbies. we often help each other andlearn from each other. once,when she was in the hospital for an operation on her appendix, i took care of her in every way possible, which made xiang song (the young teacher who shared the ward with her) envy our friendship. when i was preparing for put graduate exams, she did the cooking and urged others to help me. after graduation we parted. she went to argentine. i was still in ustc. we promised to meet in the united states. so we both worked hard at our lessons.

true friendship lasts a long time. hard work is rewarding and three years later, we me again. true to our word, we met at the place where we promised to see each other the united states of america. i received an asslstantship in ncsu and she earned enough money in argentine to support herself and work her way through college.

in nowadays, it is quite common that we compete with each other for various competitions. however, it is also essential for people to cooperate with each other for we are members of society. when confront with cooperation and competition, people seems to have a difficult time in choosing them. some people tend to compete with each other for they believe they can win rewards by defeating others. some hold that we should cooperate with each other. some think that we should not only cooperate with others but we should compete with others as well. in my opinion, i think that competing is more important for us. reasons are listed below.

You don’t like crying, right? So you must prefer smiling, because you know smiling will let people forget everything unhappy. Every day, we see teachers or students and say, “Hi/Hello! How are you?” At the same time, you are smiling, right?

Smiling can let you have more friends. With a smile, people will know you’re a kind person. They will talk with you, so you will have more and more friends.

So I say, smiling is like a flower, the sunshine, warmth. It will give you happiness.

选修课(Selective Courses) This term our school laid down a new rule about selective court. For the first two weeks, we may sit in as many classes as we like before we decide on which courses to choose. We jumped for joy. The first week I attended classes for four evenings on end and found out that most of the teachers took it serioualy. They were busy in "winning votes" for fear, that later on no one would attend their lectures.

For example, the teacher of Modern Literature of Taiwan said, "Actually the flrst two hours of my lecture were only a prelude. The real contents have not been involved. In the furore, we shall discuss such famous writers as Qiong Yao, Xi Murong, etc, and such famous aetresses as Lin Fengjiao, Lin Qingxia etc. We have lots of vedio-taped films to watch. These are confined only to those who co-major in this court." See, after all, the last sentence is the core of everything he said.

The teacher of Appreciation and Critics of Modern Opera said, "We have a variety of contents and the teaching method is changable. For instance, l may choose one act from a play and let you perform it in class. If you do a good job, you can put on the play at the school theater festival. I was born in a small village with a hill behind it and many big areas of feilds in front. Most of the villagers live in tall buildings like the people in cities.In their home, they have telephones,TV sets,washing machines and so on.They can also use drinking water supplied by the water company in the village,but it costs them a little money every year.If they plant crops, the goverment will give them some money as encouragement.The more land they farm, the more money they will get.All around the year, they work on their farm land for only four or five months.In the rest time,they often work in the cities nearby for money.They needn’t worry about anything for living, such as food or clothes.

There is a tall teaching building with a computer room, a reading room, a meeting room,a lab and sixteen class-rooms in our school.Around it are big trees and behind the building is a wide playground for us to do sports on.All the teachers work carefully and teach us very well.

What is more,when we are ill or want to do some shopping and so on, everything is OK without leaving the village.

But in the past, it is said there were few people living in two houses made of wood,grass and mud.That is why it is still called Two Houses today.It is not hard to imagine what their life was like.

Now I feel that I am proud of my hometown.As a student,I must study hard to get more knowledge so that I can build my village better when I grow up.

Chinese New year is a chinese traditional festival. We also call it the spring festival. It is on lunar january 1st.

On New year’s eve, all the people sit around the desk and have a big family dinner. There are some vegetables, some fish, some meat, some fruits and some drink like juice, coke, pepsi and some nice wine. Overall, this is a good and delicious dinner. After dinner, we always watch tv New year progammes. We have a wonderful evening on New year’s eve.

On the first day of the spring festival, most of people get up early and say “happy New year” to each other. for breakfast, people often eat dumplings and baozi. After breakfast, people often make many delicious foods, and children often play cards, computer games and fireworks. On the second and third day, we visit friends and relatives.

Everyone is busy on chinese New year, and everyone is happy, too.
