另外我要改掉一个坏脾气，就是别的同学来问我题目时，我总是管自己做自己的事，不听他的话，我觉得这样就是不尊敬别人。换个角度来考虑，假如是我来问问题，被人拒绝是多么难过的事呀!

I Still Remember That Halloween.

Days and days past, Im not a child any longer. But I still remember that Halloween, 31st October 2001. That was Saturday. I went to study English with an American girl named Debby as usual. I like the holidy so much. I look forward to holiday every year. Last summer, I went to Shen zhen for my holiday, which is also a city of seashore like Haikou. The word itself, "Halloween," actually has its origins in the Catholic Church. It comes from a contracted corruption of All Hallows Eve. November 1, "All Hollows Day" (or "All Saints Day"), is a Catholic day of observance in honor of saints. But, in the 5th century BC, in Celtic Ireland, summer officially ended on October 31. The holiday was called Samhain (sow-en), the Celtic New year.

One story says that, on that day, the disembodied spirits of all those who had died throughout the preceding year would come back in search of living bodies to possess for the next year. It was believed to be their only hope for the afterlife. The Celts believed all laws of space and time were suspended during this time, allowing the spirit world to intermingle with the living.

Naturally, the still-living did not want to be possessed. So on the night of October 31, villagers would extinguish the fires in their homes, to make them cold and undesirable. They would then dress up in all manner of ghoulish costumes and noisily paraded around the neighborhood, being as destructive as possible in order to frighten away spirits looking for bodies to possess.

Probably a better explanation of why the Celts extinguished their fires was not to discourage spirit possession, but so that all the Celtic tribes could relight their fires from a common source, the Druidic fire that was kept burning in the Middle of Ireland, at Usinach.

Some accounts tell of how the Celts would burn someone at the stake who was thought to have already been possessed, as sort of a lesson to the spirits. Other accounts of Celtic history debunk these stories as myth.

The Romans adopted the Celtic practices as their own. But in the first century AD, Samhain was assimilated into celebrations of some of the other Roman traditions that took place in October, such as their day to honor Pomona, the Roman goddess of fruit and trees. The symbol of Pomona is the apple, which might explain the origin of our modern tradition of bobbing for apples on Halloween.

The thrust of the practices also changed over time to become more ritualized. As belief in spirit possession waned, the practice of dressing up like hobgoblins, ghosts, and witches took on a more ceremonial role.

The custom of Halloween was brought to America in the 1840s by Irish immigrants fleeing their countrys potato famine. At that time, the favorite pranks in New England included tipping over outhouses and unhinging fence gates.

The custom of trick-or-treating is thought to have originated not with the Irish Celts, but with a ninth-century European custom called souling. On November 2, All Souls Day, early Christians would walk from village to village begging for "soul cakes," made out of square pieces of bread with currants. The more soul cakes the beggars would receive, the more prayers they would promise to say on behalf of the dead relatives of the donors. At the time, it was believed that the dead remained in limbo for a time after death, and that prayer, even by strangers, could expedite a souls passage to heaven.

The Jack-o-lantern custom probably comes from Irish folklore. As the tale is told, a man named Jack, who was notorious as a drunkard and trickster, tricked Satan into climbing a tree. Jack then carved an image of a cross in the trees trunk, trapping the devil up the tree. Jack made a deal with the devil that, if he would never tempt him again, he would promise to let him down the tree.

According to the folk tale, after Jack died, he was denied entrance to Heaven because of his evil ways, but he was also denied access to Hell because he had tricked the devil. Instead, the devil gave him a single ember to light his way through the frigid darkness. The ember was placed inside a hollowed-out turnip to keep it glowing longer.

The Irish used turnips as their "Jacks lanterns" originally. But when the immigrants came to America, they found that pumpkins were far more plentiful than turnips. So the Jack-O-Lantern in America was a hollowed-out pumpkin, lit with an ember.

So, although some cults may have adopted Halloween as their favorite "holiday," the day itself did not grow out of evil practices. It grew out of the rituals of Celts celebrating a new year, and out of Medieval prayer rituals of Europeans. And today, even many churches have Halloween parties or pumpkin carving events for the kids. After all, the day itself is only as evil as one cares to make it.

As a middle school student my priority is study which occupies most time and energy in my life.

Therefore my life sometimes seems a little boring. However it’s not that bad. First study brings me knowledge that will be useful to all my life. Learning new knowledge brings me a sense of achievement. In addition I like staying with my friends and classmates. We have much fun in daily life which makes our life in school colorful. As usual, I got up at six in the morning today. 话说今年的春晚可真是精彩，我最喜欢的相声小品，爆笑连连，果真没让我失望。若是时间再长一些，那真真是极好的。

也许还有很多人，还没有回家吧，也许远在台湾的舅爷爷又在想念家乡吧。这已经不重要了，因为，在这样一个节日里，我们的心都在一起了。我面对着万家灯火，微微一笑。

我们这一生，都在回家的路上。

总之，这样的例子数不胜数。生命只有一次，希望你能好好保护!希望大家要注意交通安全，安全出行。生命只有一次，不要因为一点点时间而失去生命!安全重于泰山!

每一个人都有爱好，我也不例外。我的爱好广泛：喜欢唱歌、喜欢剪纸、喜欢画画、喜欢打羽毛球、喜欢看书。

我的画别具一格，画到天空时，不像别人总画一个太阳，再画几朵白云，而我却突发奇想，画一个下雨的天空，画一个夜晚的天空。我特意用10张大白纸订成一个画档，现在已经有2本人物画档，1本风景画档，2本记事画档，3本幻想画档了。

我还十分热爱看书。我喜欢看书到什么程度了呢?走路看，洗脚看。我把书看成了生命中的一部分，读起书来如饥似渴，就像高尔基所说：“我扑在书上，就像饥饿的人扑在面包上。”我经常被故事中的情节吸引地无法自拔，时而哈哈大笑，时而沉默不语，时而甚至流下了眼泪。大家都送我一个可爱的雅号“小书迷”。

这就是我那多姿多彩的业余爱好。
