环境的污染和破坏，对人们的身体健康影响很大。儿童时期是人一生中生长发育的初始阶段，身体各部分器官还未成熟，环境污染对孩子们健康肌体的损害就更加严重。空气污染主要来自燃料的燃烧、工业生产过程和汽车废气。科学家们测算，烧1吨煤要排放20-80公斤烟尘，炼1吨钢要产生60立方米烟尘，汽车跑1小时要排出40-100立方米废气，它们都严重地污染了空气。
