Dear Sir,

I am writing to apply for a British Council scholarship to study in Britain. I did my five years basic training in medicine at Shanghai University. After this I successfully completed a one-year postgraduate course in Ophthalmology at the Peoples General Hospital, where I am at present serving a two-year probation in the Eye Clinic.

As a result of the publication in 2003 of my article in New Scientist entitled "Soft and Rigid Contact Lenses ", which was based on a survey of 37 patients over 6 months, I made contact with Dr. Li Ming of the Capital Hospital and Dr. Ma Li of the University College Hospital. I have received their help and advice with my current research project, which is a two-year survey of the acceptance of various types of contact lenses in 200 patients.

Despite their help, I feel that I cannot make real progress in this field unless I can actually have day-to-day contact with these specialists. I would therefore like to continue my research at either the Capital Hospital or the UCH as soon as my probationary period here is completed, and I would like to study in Britain for two years.

I enclose a detailed curriculum vitae and an offprint of my article, together with two letters of recommendation from Dr. Li Ming and Dr. Ma Li.

每年清明节，我都能在外婆家的田野里看到大片大片金黄色的油菜花，金灿灿的满地都是，简直是花的世界，花的海洋。

“好雨知时节，当春乃发生”。在春天，那一丛丛的油菜花在慢慢的吸吮着春天的甘露，抽出了细长的茎，有紫色的，有绿色的。到清明时节，金黄色的油菜花已经盛开，太阳出来时，像金黄色的地毯，让我觉得温暖，感到安心。一阵阵微风吹过，一股股迷人的芳香让人陶醉。

近观油菜花，一团团一簇簇，就像一个个大绒球，每个绒球有二十多朵小花，每朵小花都有四片花瓣，花瓣排列有序，十分精致，细看还隐约可见纹路。闻着而来的蜜蜂在花丛中来回飞舞，让我想起了《宿新市徐公店》这首古诗，“篱落疏疏一径深，树头花落未成阴，儿童急走追黄蝶，飞入菜花无处寻”。好一幅生机勃勃的绚丽画卷！

油菜花虽然很平凡，但它的作用可大着呢！它的花粉可以酿成蜂蜜，等到花谢了以后，会结出许多小籽粒，那就是油菜籽，可以用来榨油，就是我们用来炒菜的菜籽油，可香啦！它虽然没有牡丹的高贵，没有荷花的出淤泥而不染，但它有朴实、自在之感。

我喜欢油菜花，喜欢它的平凡和朴实。

The scenery here really startled me. The ancient trees were so beautiful that we walked in. The flowery pavilion is gorgeous in our sight.

The grand canyon was big, and we walked for a long time to reach the waterfall. When the water comes down, it stirs a thousand waves.

We went back to the secret road. It was a natural air-conditioner!

After coming home, I had been thinking about the grand canyon for a long time, unable to sleep.

If you come here, will you go to the grand canyon? Its so beautiful, so spectacular, I think you cant miss it.

砂子塘天华寄宿制学校 六一班 王博闻

他叫洪岳，是我的同学，也是我最最要好的朋友。他长着一个小鼻子，一对浅浅的眉毛下面长着一双大眼睛。上课的时候，他的眼睛不时发出智慧的目光。 洪岳生性活泼、开朗，各方面的成绩都很优异，体育方面也样样拿手。获奖证书多得不可计数。 记得五年一期的时候，学校为我们举行了一次别开生面的足球赛，我们的对手是五（3）班。刚开始，我们很快就找到了灵感，在我们默契的配合下，足球一次次洞穿了对方大门，上半场我们以3：0领先。下半场开始，五（3）班也意识到自己的漏洞，决定用二防一的战术来改变自己被动的局势。果然，他们选择是正确的，整个下半场，球大多次是控制在他们的脚下。现在他们已经3：3搬平了，不巧，洪岳在这最关键的时刻受了伤，已经不能再坚持下去了。离比赛结束还有十分钟，如果就这样被他们逼平的话对我们也并没有多大的好处。

就在这情急之时，五（3）班一技远射，把比分改写成了3：4。不过幸好随后廖高又搬回一球。只有五分钟了，这时候洪岳忍着疼痛上了场，他这一惊人的举动激发了我们奋斗的潜力，也深深的震撼了在场所有人的心，我们全队的士气高昂了起来，在这剩下的五分钟里我们相继进了两个球，以6：4结束了这场比赛的胜利。 我但愿我和洪岳的友情天长地久，让它不被某人、某事、某物所破坏，我为我有这样的也感到自豪。
