Jerry was the kind of guy you love to hate. He was always in a good mood and always had something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!"

He was a unique manager because he had several waiters who had followed him around from restaurant to restaurant. The reason the waiters followed Jerry was because of his attitude. He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him, "I don‘t get it! You can‘t be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?" Jerry replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, Jerry, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood.‘ I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life."

"Yeah, right, it‘s not that easy," I protested.

"Yes it is," Jerry said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It‘s your choice how you live life."

Several years later, I heard that Jerry did something you are never supposed to do in a restaurant business: he left the back door open one morning and was held up at gunpoint by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him. Luckily, Jerry was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local trauma center. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body.

I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I‘d be twins. Wanna see my scars?"

I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place. "The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door," Jerry replied. "Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live, or I could choose to die. I chose to live.

"Weren‘t you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked. Jerry continued, "The paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the emergency room and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read, ‘He‘s a dead man. " I knew I needed to take action."

"What did you do?" I asked.

"Well, there was a big, burly nurse shouting questions at me," said Jerry. "She asked if I was allergic to anything. ‘Yes,‘ I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply.. I took a deep breath and yelled, ‘Bullets!‘ Over their laughter, I told them, ‘I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead."

生命如草，命运如刀，不论宿命怎么样安排，我想：我们得学会微笑与骄傲

――这便是对待生命的一种态度。

是谁唱起黑色的挽歌，是谁守望白色的村落，我的水银，我的烟火，还有我长满鸢尾的山坡；热闹的风，寂寞的人，灼灼其华的清澈灵魂。对待生命我认为生命是热闹的，也是忧伤的。就像四维所说的：“青春是一道明媚的忧伤。”按我的理解便是生命中虽充满了许多忧伤，但也有明媚的阳光啊！曾几何时，我是这样给流星下了一个定义：流星划空而逝，谁说这是一种死亡，这也是一种生命的绽放！

我所希望的是，既然我选择了生命，我就应该为生命负责，不是为了什么仅仅为了灵魂的释放。但我并不希望达到某种程度上的高峰，因为我怕。我只希望不是太好，也不太坏，这可能就是某种意义上中庸之道吧。我怕什么呢？怕成为海明威第二。海明威，传奇中的传奇。论地位，他是享誉世界的大师级人物；论荣誉，他是诺贝尔获得者；论金钱，他的版税在他成名之前已成为富翁；论爱情，几乎每个女人都想为他而疯狂！他是被人们仰慕的传奇！可是，他用自己的枪了却了自己62岁的生命。唉，这就是对生命一种无可奈何的态度，一个人一旦把自己所从事的生命达到了高峰，就会有一种空前的寂寞感，这种寂寞感所带来的迷茫和绝望会把你送进天堂，所以说，如果对于生命太过于认真，那么成功也是一种非常可怕的事。态度决定命运的高度，但这种高度是可怕的，是悲观的。

我只希望，开开心心的就好，这就是我所谓的生命之道。有这样一句话：如果你不能做你所爱的，那么就爱你所做的。是的，人活一世，虽说担负重要，但倘若为了抱负而郁郁终生，不浪费了这大好时光吗？

我的初中老师给我们讲一个故事，从前一个建筑师，年轻的时候与妻子分开。独自一个人工作，他给他的老板建造了几十年的房子，直到有一天很想想念他的妻子，就向老板辞职，老板让他再走之前建造最后一栋房子再走。而后他便开始工作，可是，他为了能够早点能够见到他的妻子。在工作时，老是漫不经心，更是到了后面他开始偷工减料直到把房子建成，老板拍一拍肩膀说老伙计，你帮我建造了无数栋房子今天这一栋房子是送给你的。那位建筑师听完，大喊一声，天呐，我为无数人建造了的房子，怎么到给我自己建造的房子却是偷工减料的工程。

这一则故事告诉了我们态度决定命运，我们拥有怎样的态度，就会拥有怎样的命运，也会拥有怎样的未来，一个好的态度能让我们成为一个优秀的成功人士，一个好的态度决定着你的命运，你的未来。

我们也更是应该反思，我们对待任何人，任何事，任何物的的处理是持一个什么样的态度，这些都是值得我们思考，值得我们反思！

Different people have different views on success. Some hold that making a great deal of money means success. Others argue that holding an important post in the government means success. “班长刘汉颖!!帮我做数学作业!!”副班长杨西蜀发号施令。刘汉颖微笑着跑过去把他手上的数学作业拿走——顺便“牵”走了他的英语卷子。回到座位，又把语文作业递给罗艺。数学课代表周本娇刚把英语卷子做完，徐小财就把头凑过去：“抄一下。”周本娇想都没想：“拿去吧。”唰唰唰唰……几下抄完，后座的李明佳又喊到：“徐小财，抄一下。”唰啦啦——卷子飞到李明佳桌子上，李明佳又开始奋笔急书……

“李云来了!”不知谁喊了一句，抄作业的、丢沙包的，统统把东西收进抽屉里。收完了头还左右看看，李老师到底来了没有。而几个疯打的同学，则以刘翔参加世界大赛的速度回到座位，拿起书装模作样的看，体育课一千米考试也没见他们跑那么快呀!

李老师大步流星的走进教室，看到该做作业的正在认真做作业，该看书的把书都快望穿了，教室里安静的连掉根针都能看见，当然就一声不吭的走回办公室。其实我们心里都清楚，他一定乐的想飞上天。

目送李老师进入办公室，平静的湖水马上掉进一块大石头，泛起层层涟漪……
