青年“如初春，如朝日，如百卉之萌芽，如利刃之新发”，是整个社会中最积极、最有生气的力量。曾几何时，一些人对年轻人“看不惯”，觉得他们“不着调”，有的甚至给年轻人打上“堕落的一代”“叛逆的一代”等标签，感慨一代不如一代。实际上，一代人有一代人的青春，一代人会以一代人的方式承担起属于他们的责任和使命。

时代的车轮滚滚向前，一代人有一代人的特点。一些年长者对青年一代的思维方式、行为表现“看不惯”，有爱之切责之深的意味，但未必都科学和客观。反之，一些年轻人习惯于对年长者不耐烦，觉得它们老土、落伍，实际上他们对真善美的追求、对传统价值观的固守正是支撑社会滚滚向前的精神元气，永远不会过时。这种各自的固执即是“代际冲突”产生的根源。

美国文化人类学家玛格丽特·米德曾在她的《代沟》一书中担忧于“年轻人和年老人隔着一条深沟在互相望着……”当今，我们正处于世界百年未有之大变局，“代际冲突”的存在恰恰说明时代正在发生着伟大变革，我们要做的就是扬其长避其短，努力达到和谐发展的新境界。
