4、注重兴趣培养,慎防两极分化。从试卷分析中可以看出,两个班级都不同程度地出现了令人担忧的“两极分化”现象。一定要注意激发、培养学生的学习兴趣,关注学生的情感,营造宽松,民主、和谐的教学氛围,保护每个学生的自尊心和学习英语的积极性。只有这样,掉队的学生才会减少,也才可能大面积提高均分。

学生们常苦于写作文。于是,一篇篇学生习作要么千篇一律,毫无特色,要么空洞无物,言之无味。究其原因,作文教学不得法也。新课改背景下,如何有效进行作文教学呢?让我们把视线移向著名语文教育家──叶圣陶,他曾经以睿智的目光穿越深邃的时空,以他对语文教育真谛的深刻把握,透视语文教育存在的种种弊端,阐发有关语文教育的真知灼见。叶老早就指出:“作文不是生活的点缀,而是生活的必须。”我们如果像河伯观海、井蛙窥天那样,局限在课堂内教作文,局限在笔头上练作文,那注定会“走进一条死胡同”。倘若“作文成为生活的必须”的话,学生还会怕作文吗?学习、借鉴叶老的语文教育思想,结合自己的教学,我有几点感悟。

一、写作源自生活,需给学生自由生活的空间

1、生活是写作的基础。对于生活与写作的关系,叶老有一个形象而生动的比喻,他认为:“生活就如泉源,文章就如溪水,泉源丰盈而不枯竭,溪水自然活泼泼地流个不停”。多年的教学,我也深刻体会到:作文这件事离不开生活,生活充实到什么程度,才会做成什么样的文字,写作应该是生活的一部分,有了多彩的生活,才会有多样的文章。

2、写作是生活的需要。要着力提高学生的作文水平,我们首先要搞清楚为什么要作文?对此,叶老有过这样精辟透彻的论述:“写作就是说话,为了生活上的种种需要,把自己要说的话说出来。……并没有话而勉强要说话,或者把别人的话拿来,当作自己的话,都是和写作的本意相违反的。”从写作的目的上来看,写作是因为自己有话要说才把要说的话写下来。生活中人人都有说话的需要,都有需要倾吐的时刻,“写作就是说话”,建立起这样的认识,学生就可以把写作看作是稀松平常之事,就不必从心理上去害怕它。这对刚刚接触写作的小学生来说,显得尤为必要。

3、情感是文章的灵魂。叶老指出,“意思情感和表达方式都是从一个人的整个生活中而来”。“必须整个生活产生得出精妙的意思情感与适宜的表达方式”,才能写出像样的文学作品的希望。”真正认识到这一点,我们就会更深领悟古人说的“世事洞明皆学问”的深刻内涵。生活中的一景一物、一人一事,一种情感、一点感悟都可写进文章中来,真实的情感是我们写作的灵魂。

因此,我们要反思自己的教学,我们的社会、学校、家庭给了孩子多少广阔的生活的空间?整天呆在“象牙塔”里、埋首于“教科书”中,孩子们能产生出多少 “精妙的意思情感与适宜的表达方式”来?这是显而易见的道理,但是需要我们认认真真地做,实乃难事。叶老说,写作之前,要让孩子“知人知事”,这“人”这 “事”,必须使孩子们去亲眼目睹、去亲自体察才行。叶老曾经发出这样的感叹:“国文教授并非是限于教室的教科啊!国文教授并非是限于书本以内的教科啊!” 新颁布的语文课程标准对此也作了明确的表述:要让小学生“养成留心观察周围事物的习惯,有意识地丰富自己的见闻。”观察事物,丰富见闻,只有生活才能赋予学生具有这样的本领。因此,我们要为学生开创一片自由的生活,让他们有自己主宰的时间,有属于自己的空间。节假日,孩子们可以去郊外踏青、去乡间游玩,亲近生活、走进自然;双休日,孩子们可以去逛街购物、去参观游览;更别忘了让孩子们有自己亲密的小伙伴,那里也有一个“小小”的社会、“大大”的人际关系。

二、写作基于阅读,需给学生自主阅读的空间

阅读与写作是一个统一体。“阅读是吸收,写作是倾吐,倾吐能否合于法度,显然是与吸收有密切的关系。”不明白这一点,会让我们局限于作文训练这个狭隘的圈子里,干“头痛医头,脚痛医脚”之事,写作水平是不会提高的。在长年的教学过程中,我深刻体会到:目前作文教学效率低下、水平低落的一个主要原因在于 “阅读”这一关没过好。叶老说:“阅读与写作是一贯的,阅读得其法,阅读程度提高了,写作程度没有不提高的。”写作的技能、本领应该是从阅读中来的。但是如何教我们学生阅读,我认为要注重方法:

一是教学生自己感悟。一篇读物的意义,可以是作者作文的本意,也可以是读者通过自己积极的思维活动去发现文章所包含的种种意义,也就是说读物的意义并不等于作者写作的本意,读物的意义应该有读者和作者共同来创造。我想,这样的阅读才是开放的阅读,这样所获得的文章意义才是积极的意义。有人歌咏向日葵的“目标专一”,有人却鄙视它的“毫无主见”;有人钦佩春蚕的“全心奉献”,有人却讥笑它的“作茧自缚”。“一千个读者就有一千个哈姆雷特”的名言,证明了“读书解义”并不是读者被动接受作者所给的意义,而是积极参与、主动投入的过程。学生读书又何尝不是如此呢?语文学习的过程不应是教师把作者、自己的意图强加给学生的过程,而应该是学生在教师的引导下切己体味,通过眼前所读的文字提取自己的生活积累、调动自己的亲身体验去再现作者笔下的情景、去体现作者的生活感受,至于能体会多少、体会多深,教师大可不必强求到位,即使主观上有这个愿望,客观上也不可能。小学生读柳宗元的《江雪》与中学生、大学生读之所得体会一样吗?对一篇文章的理解,应允许见仁见智,允许创新求异,关键是去悟自己所能体会的“情”、所能感悟的“理”。例如,对于《趵突泉》中的“冒,冒,冒,永远那么晶莹,永远那么活泼”这句话,有学生读出了自然界的“神奇”,有学生读出了大自然的“伟大”,有学生读出了泉水的“持之以恒”,有学生读出了泉水的顽强生命力,对此,我都予以了充分的肯定与积极的鼓励,因为这是学生切己的体察,这是一种体现主体意识的自我阅读。

二是教学生在读中传情。在学生“读中领悟情、切己体察情”之后,教师还应要求吟诵玩味,通过声情并茂的朗读进入作者的意境、传达文字的情趣、抒发自己的感兴、演绎文章的旨趣。学生如能达到这个程度,就是诵读达到了另一境界──美读。所谓“美读”,就是把作者的情感在读的时候传达出来。设身处地,激昂处还他个激昂,委婉处还他个委婉……美读得其法,不但了解作者说些什么,而且与作者的心灵相感通了,无论兴味方面或受用方面都有莫大的收获(叶圣陶语)。悟到了情,还要传达出情,这才达到了“读中悟情”的第三层次。在教学中教师可通过创设情境、语言渲染、音乐背景、实物再现等手段,带动学生多种感官,使情动于中,形之于声。例如,在学习古诗《宿新市徐公店》时,我通过音乐、语言、画面把学生带入了美好的暮春田园。“你看到了那金灿灿的菜花地了吗?你闻到了菜花的阵阵香味了吗?你听到了孩子们的声声欢笑了吗?”三个问题,伴随着美妙的乐曲调动了学生多种的感官去唤起记忆中的感知,“菜儿黄,蝶儿飞,孩儿戏蝶欢” 的场面形象的出现在学生的头脑中时,我就要求学生不要用语言而是通过朗读把你仿佛看到的景、所能体会的“情”表达出来,即“读中传情”。

三是教学生在读中领会知识。课堂上读起来了,课文就活起来了:鲜活的语言形式使学生直接而充分地感知了,丰富的语言现象让学生直观而自如地接触了,那么,在老师的适时引导、点拨下,那些关于语言、语法的一些知识的获得、一些常见的语言运用的规律的掌握将是水到渠成、瓜熟蒂落之事。需要指出的是,这里的 “知识”包含着应该积累的语言材料、语言表达形式、语言运用的习惯,也包含篇章结构的知识、写作的知识,这种知识切忌以十分理性的“面貌”去告诉学生,而是要充分利用学生的多种感官和已有的经验,通过各种形式的感知自读自得,以丰富学生的感性认识,从而有利于抽象知识的具体化。

三、写作贵在真实,需给学生自由为文的空间

学生为什么要写作呢?叶老说:“那是为生活上有记载知闻,有表白情意的必要,时时练习,时时把知闻记载下来,情意表白出来,这样成了习惯,才可以终身受用。”由此看来,写作是一种由内而外的需求,是一种内需,是一种真实的感受。叶老指出:“写作决不是无中生有。必须有了意思才动手写作,有了需要才动手写作。”叶老曾这样论述作文的认真与不认真:“自己有什么就写什么,就是认真。……反过来,自己没有什么而勉强要写什么,就是不认真。”如何使学生达到叶老所认可的“认真作文”的状态呢?我看可以从以下五个方面入手。

一要给学生选择写作内容的自由。写作内容来源于生活,每个人的生活不尽相同,于是每个人笔下的生活也是千姿百态。因此,老师应给学生绝对的自由写每个人的生活。不要一味以“法官”的眼睛去审视学生作文的内容是否有意义,是否值得作为写作的题材。学生写一天的“流水账”,那也是他一天的生活。只要生活存在,就有“倾吐”的权利。试想,一个还刚刚七八岁的儿童,就被告知这个不可以写、那个不可以用,那会泯灭他多少情感“表达情意、记载知闻”的需要。长此以往,他还会认为“写作是生活的必须”吗?

二要给学生选择表达情感的自由。由表达自己情感的需要出发的写作比仅仅从描摹生活的需要出发的写作,来得更为深刻,对写作的意义也了解得更为透彻。因此,教师不适宜给学生出命题作文,更不适宜给学生的作文定中心。学生需要表达一种什么样的情感与心绪,那只能出于他个人的需要。即使非出命题作文不可,也应做到叶老说的“题者何?思考之范围也。必以学生所有的东西作范围,或学生尚未全有,亦宜以其力所能搜索为范围。”

三要给学生选择写作时间的自由。每周2节定期作文课的安排,从作文意义的本意出发,也不够科学。叶老说:“咱们学习写作,也要像说话一样养成习惯。凡是需要写作的时候,就提笔写作。错过需要写作的机会,便是自己对自己的禁遏。一回错过,两回错过,禁遏终于成功;于是,你觉得一支笔有千斤般重,搜尽肚肠你觉得没有东西写的,你不会写作了。”多么透彻的写作心理分析!我们应让学生养成“凡是需要写作的时候,就提笔写作”的良好的写作习惯,那样才会让学生感到真实,让学生受益无穷。同时我们也要给学生宽裕的时间写作,给学生足够的时间准备,不要总是“今天布置作文,明天立马就交。”

四要给学生选择表达方式的自由。既然写作是表达情感的需要,是倾吐见闻的需要,可以随便写,可以随时写,那么一切都应该是自然的:生活的自然再现、情感的自然流露,应该如泉水“滔滔汨汨地无穷无尽地流注出来,而且是非常澄清的”。于是写作(非文学创作)似应无章法可言,更多的是“清水出芙蓉,自然去雕琢。”对于小学生作文更应该是如此。叶老多次强调,“写作系技能,……不能空讲知识,以为多讲知识即有裨于写作能力之长进,殊为不切实际之想。”围绕着写作技能的作文训练会让学生陷入新八股的窠臼,迫使学生循格就范,写出“只有骨架而没有血肉”的作文来。

五培养学生良好的写作习惯。一是“时时写”。“凡是需要写作的时候,就提笔写作。”老师要引导学生养成每有所得即刻写作的记录的好习惯。如当时条件不允许马上写也应养成即刻记录的好习惯。老师可建议学生身边常备一个本子,一点新鲜的事物,一点心灵的感动,随时简约的予以记录。二是“日日记”。叶老提议: “日记最好能天天写,对修养有好处,对写作也有好处。”许多有作为的人,在谈到成功的经验的时候,许多多归功于他们所养成的“每天写日记”的习惯。把一天中的要事记下,把白天来不及写的有价值的东西一一记录。可别小看了这小小的日记,不仅培育了情思,锻炼了文笔,积累了材料,更养成了“思考、审视、坚持” 等等人生必备的优秀品质。三是“常常作”。为养成写作的习惯,非多作不可;同时为适应生活的需要,也非多作不可。写作是一种能力,“凡能力必须继续不断地磨练,才会越来越精强。”在叶老语文教育理论中,“实践”的思想是一个十分突出的范畴,对作文教学的指导意义就更大了。一学期8篇的作文练习量是无法培养出“自能作文”的学生来的。“多读书、多写作”是许多人总结的成功经验。大脑同四肢一样,多用则灵,不用则废。写作当然也不例外。有了“时时写”、“日日记”的过程,相信“常常作”将是水到渠成之事。

写作能力是语文素养的一部分,作文教学应从提高学生语文素养的角度出发,贴近学生实际,寻找适合学生的作文途径,让学生关注现实,热爱生活,乐于在作文中尽情表达自己内心世界的独特感受,这样才能让学生写出一篇篇文笔优美、生动真切的好文章,这样的教学才是叶老教育理论在实践中的应用。

由于高中学生在英语学习方面有了一定的词汇积累、阅读经验以及掌握了一些基本的语法规则,使他们已初步具备了将心中所思转化为英语文字的能力。在这个阶段,教师如果通过影像、音乐、语言等多种手段,在学生的作文训练中大力发展学生思维的变通性和独创性,那么,学生想象力的提高将会成为可能。

一、利用表象,丰富想象

观察图画和实物作文符合英语作文起步阶段需要有一定的情景要求,也符合高中学生有意想象占优势的特点,同时避免了文字情节作文易使学生中译英的缺点,但若每一次训练都是刻板的再现材料,创造想象则难以增长。如果在教学设计时,在图中留有空白,或对实物设置悬念,不仅可以引发学生的好奇心,激发他们对英语作文的兴趣,减轻他们的惧怕心理,而且可以促使学生通过创造性的想象去填补空白,解决悬念。

如Senior BookⅠ,Unit 3 中的“Help! Help!”,可按发展顺序设计几幅救落水儿童的图,但只给学生展示第一、二两幅图,图画的内容大致与课文内容相同,但是后几幅的空白,使学生必须通过创造性的想象才能填补材料的空白。学生可以引用课文中的材料,也可以自由发挥。有学生这样写到:

Last week, we had a picnic in Forest Park. We found a shady place by the river. As soon as we had sat down, Tom suddenly got up and shouted, “Someone has fallen into the river!" It was true. A boy was struggling in the water, and the children in a boat looked hopeless. Tom and Jack took off their shoes while running to wards the water. They swam very quickly towards the boy who was sinking fast. Tom and Jack got hold of the boy by the arms and lifted his head above the water. Together they pulled the boy to the shore.

之后,再给学生展示其中一幅图,或一句话的情景:……,a man/a woman/a child, etc. has fallen into the river/the lake, etc.……。让学生自由选择自由发挥。有的根据曾在报上看到的新闻,称颂一身怀六甲的妇女勇救落水儿童的事迹,也有的谴责那些对落水者无动于衷的旁观者。学生的作文体裁记叙文、议论文不限。这样,既训练了他们书面的表达能力,又发挥了他们的想象和创造能力、思维表达能力。同时也让他们思索了做人的道理。

二、精选图画,激发想象

处于英语作文起步阶段的学生的想象具有直观性,片面性和模仿性的特点,为其提供的观察材料越具体、越完整、越详实,他们的这些特点往往表现得越明显,有时甚至强化了他们的这些特点。换个方式,为他们提供一些抽象的图画,他们的创造想象反而被激活,因为他们必须在原有的图画上进行创造才可能有新的形象产生。而“抽象画作品所表现的物象与参照物相差甚远,它最大限度地把形与色对视觉作用的潜力发挥出来,直观效果非常强烈。它经过夸张、简化、分解、组合等变化手段,将客观事物的表象创造成为富于想象力。”如荷兰画家蒙德里安的表达百老汇街道的嘈杂与热闹的《百老汇爵士》(Jazz in Broadway)是一幅看上去比较抽象的图画,学生通过观察、运用合理的想象,写出了内容各异的作品。

有学生这样写到:

It is the downtown of Shanghai. The streets, such as Nanjing Road and Huaihai Road, etc are busy. Cars, buses and trucks with all kinds of advertisements are running. People dressed in their best are walking happily or hurrying to work on their bikes. Beautifully decorated stores are crowded with people shopping. They all look in high spirits. The traffic policemen at the crossings are directing the traffic attentively and seriously. Everything is in good order. Such is our city. I love our city.

而另有学生在他们的作文中认为这是一个“排污系统”(drain outlet system )或电路板(circuit board)或房屋平面图(a plane figure of a house)等等。

可见,由抽象的图画到生动画面的产生,到一篇作文的写作成功,是创造想象不断发展的过程,也是提高英语语言运用能力的过程。

三、借助音乐,拓宽想象

音乐能有效地丰富学生的精神生活,促进学生感知、情感、想象等方面的健康成长,能给学生提供想象和联想的广阔空间,有利于培养学生的发散性思维能力,促进人的全脑开发,为学生的创新精神和实践能力在各方面的延伸乃至终身发展提供良好的基础。因此,在英语写作训练中有时借助音乐等艺术形式,对丰富学生的想象力是一种有益的尝试。

如Senior Book Ⅵ ,Unit 7中的“The Waltz king ”这一课文,根据内容,可设计让学生听一首Beethoven的“命运”(Fate),让学生根据自己的理解,写一篇作文,一位学生这样写到:

I am a graduate from high school, and I will enter for the Collage Entrance Examination. Whether I will be admitted to a collage, I will work harder than before , since our country is still poor and weak.

从作品中我们可以发现,借助音乐,学生的想象力得到了较大幅度的拓展。“音乐艺术对学生的创造能力的发展具有独特的作用。

四、灵活方法,发展想象

“创造想象是严格的构思过程,它是由思维调节的。”想象会产生全新的物象与情景、独特的认识和感悟。一段文字、一篇文章,给不同的读者,就有不同的想象余地。正如:A thousand readers, a thousand Hamlets.(一千个读者,就有一千个哈姆雷特。)在英语作文教学中根据一定的线索或情节,提供学生广阔的思维空间,让学生进行想象描述(创造性的描述),会收到很好的锻炼效果。

例如 “After Twenty Years" (Senior Book Ⅵ,Unit 5) 这一课,可要求学生在学完之后, 简单续写一个结尾。这是一篇根据O. Henry 同名原作改写的文章。文章的故事情节虽然简单,但很能挖掘、发挥学生的创造想象力。学生这样写到:

As soon as the police officer wanted to catch Bob by the arm, he took out a gun, aimed at the officer and said, “I knew I was wanted, but I dont want to be arrested anyway. Tell Jim Wells I will come to visit him one day." Just at that time, the police officer found himself surrounded by some strong men, gun in hand, pointing to him. Bob then walked into the street and got into a car parking there, followed by those strong men. The car soon disappeared.

另有学生这样写到:

The moment the officer caught Bob by the arm, he got rid of it and ran away at once. He was running down the street as fast as he could, when he was shot on the right shoulder. He turned round. To his great surprise, it was Jim Wells, his o ld friend. He fell on the ground and fainted.

在作文教学中,通过对一定的语言材料进行不同方式的处理,确实是锻炼学生的思维,发展学生的想象力的一条重要途径。当学生对当前的语言材料进行阅读、处理时,进行了充分的分析、比较,又充分展示了自己的想象力,其思维得到了充分的发散。

心理学研究已经证实,发散思维对个体的创造性有着重要影响,我们应该根据教材特点,结合教学内容,注意这种思维能力的训练,并创造一些行之有效的教学技术。可以说,续写结尾、续写故事、改写、扩写等,都是高中英语作文教学中锻炼学生思维,发展学生想象力的有效手段。
