从农历十二月十六尾牙（也是中国春运第一天）到二月初二头牙，莆田风俗有着奇特的方式。

一、做尾牙

“做牙”，亦称“祭牙”。这一节俗，原本是莆仙生意人的祭祀方式，后才延伸成莆仙民间普遍的节俗。

相传在明代有个叫陈米牙的，是专门经营米业的商人。同是生意人，陈米牙的经营方式与众人不同，人家卖米唯利是图，一味赚钱；而他卖米是薄利多销，生意不成仁义在。陈米牙做生意老少无欺，在江南民间传为美谈。莆仙生意人为纪念和仿效他，便在每年农历二月初二出外做生意和十二月十六日赶回家过年时，举行祭祀陈米牙的仪式，后简称为“做牙”或“祭牙”，并把每年农历二月初二定为“头牙”，十二月十六定为“尾牙”，后来，一些生意人还把这一节俗延伸为每月初二和十六日都要“做牙”。

旧时，莆仙民间做“尾牙”那天，大、中商家必备酒席邀请同行和本店伙计们。一是联络商友之间的感情，二是决定所雇伙计的去留。按俗例，本店伙计吃“尾牙”后，即算结束雇约，至次年二月初二日，店的伙计若再被店主邀请“做头牙”，则是被继续受雇的信约，三是以“做牙”祀神、祀福，求生意兴旺。

受商家影响，莆仙民间即使没有经营生意的家庭在农历每月初二和十六日，也有“做牙”的风俗。在莆仙山区和沿海一带，民间还有为“婆姐做牙”的风俗。仙游一带称为“安婆妈”。“婆姐”即婴儿的保姆之神。凡家有婴儿的，每月初

二、十六日都要为“婆姐做牙”。黄昏备办干饭一小碗、青菜一小碟，俗称“菜瓯饭”（小花碗盛干饭），在卧房前祭祀“婆姐”，祈求其照顾婴儿睡眠平稳，饮食正常，无病无灾，快快长大。若婴儿睡眠中脸有微笑，就认为“弄婆姐”，意即“婆姐”在教婴儿微笑。

二、扫巡

莆田话把年前大扫除叫“扫巡”。“扫巡”的时间，各地都没有统一。有的地区群众从“尾牙”（农历12月16日）后开始，一般是在农历十二月二十六和二十八。也有提前，都选个“双日”中的大晴天(“双日”是莆仙群众的吉利数码)，俗语说：“千补万补，洗净见先祖”、“扫巡四面光，洗净见祖公”。把家里能搬动的东西，都搬到户外，先洗刷干净，再让太阳晒干。然后室内再用竹竿绑着树枝（带叶），作成一把大大的扫把，把每个房间打扫的干干净净，这就叫“扫巡”。有的地区不受限制，腊月初直至年关前进行。群众“扫巡”的日期一般都选择双休日和天气晴朗的日子，以示吉利。“扫巡”的工具农村用芦苇、甘蔗尾巴和稻草捆成一大把像扫把，并贴上一小块红纸，然后缚在竹竿上，用于打扫清理室内外墙壁、屋梁、楼梁、楼板和天花板上附着的灰尘、蜘蛛网等污物。室内打扫清理垃圾和废物；铺地板砖的进行洗擦、厨具、桌椅、眠床等家具、被铺、蚊帐全部进行洗涤。通过清洗、打扫把室内全面进行一次卫生大扫除。有的地区群众在“扫巡”之后全家人吃一餐“擦粉”（用线面为主料配些佐料煮成的大杂烩），期望来年阖家平安。“扫巡”意味着把旧一年里的灰尘秽气打扫出门，以崭新的气象喜迎春节，跨进大吉大利的新一年。这个有益于人身健康，有保持生活环境卫生的风俗习惯，千百年来莆田人民一直保留下来沿袭至今。

莆田民间除夕子时要祭天地，方言叫“上供天地”或“辞年”。 天地崇拜在中国汉民族和少数民族中由来已久，原始社会人类面对难以征服的大自然，就认为自然界中有一个主宰者，从而产生了想象中的“天地神灵”，并因而产生了“玉璧以祭天，玉琮以祭地”，衍生出许多祭拜天地的仪式。而这些仪式，最主要的目的还是要祈福消灾，永葆安康。

道教造神中天廷的最高统治者是玉皇，民间就一直把玉皇大帝指认为天。宋代皇帝还封一位“后土皇地祗”的神为“地母”。这样天地就各有主神。只是老百姓不懂那么多，一般只认为“天地就是玉皇大帝”。据说每年除夕子时起，玉皇都要巡安人间，所以老百姓都在这个时候备办祭品上供，感谢他对自己的庇佑，期望来年他再给自己带来好运。

“辞年”的祭品十分丰富，花果茶酒齐备，“六斋”、“十味”、线面、“龟”、“团”、鸡、鸭、鱼鲜，还有“隔年饭”，摆满供桌，烛火高烧，香烟缭绕。还要摆上“五果”，这是一种小米糕，印成圆形

和方形两种，寓意天圆地方。更重要的是一定要烧“贡银”、“天金”。传说家家“辞年”，天地吃不下，只收走“贡银”，所以祭毕茶酒要“喷银”（倒在烧“贡银”的灰上）。

神比祖宗大，所以祭完“天地”，把供桌换个位置，这些祭品可以再用来祭祖宗。祭祖时不用茶酒，但必要增添“菜、饭”，还要烧“纸钱”或“银宝”、“银纸”。

“辞年”习俗延续至今，除夕子时起，家家灯火辉煌，鞭炮声此起彼伏，煞是热闹。

四、除夕

莆田除夕又称为过年、做岁、三十暝（夜）、围炉等，有的年份农历十二月二十九日过年，亦称三十暝。

莆田人过年之前要做大量的准备工作，为使年过得热闹、旺意，莆仙民间，尤其是农村，各家都要备办“红团”“番薯起”、薄糕、油炸豆腐、红柑、茶酒等，并要杀鸡（鸭）、杀猪（羊）、鱼等，称为三牲，以备祭天地、神、祖先等辞年之用。

莆仙人辞年大致在腊月二十到小年夜之间的某个晚上，一般以二十八或二十九日为多。这天中午，家家都吃“擦粉”，晚上，开始辞年时，要在院前摆一张系着金钱绣花桌裙的供桌，桌上摆着五果、六斋、三牲和贴着福、禄、寿红纸花的干线面，燃放爆竹后，全家人由年长的领头，

依次拈香跪拜天地、祖先，祈祝全家平安，来年幸福。然后在供桌前烧贡银、银纸，并再次燃放爆竹，表示辞年结束。

莆仙人看重亲情，除夕夜围炉时，大家一定要千方百计地赶回家里团聚。在围炉时，如果有人确实无法赶回家，那也要在餐桌上给他放上一副碗筷。莆仙民间围炉时餐桌上的菜大多都有吉利的寓意，如鲫鱼（俗名鲫母，谐音积宝）、蟹（要十脚全的，寓十全十美之意）、虾（谐音和，一家和和气气，和气生财）、甜丸子（莆仙方音称软粿，意即日子过得甜甜美美的），上述这四道菜是必不可少的。有些讲究古例的人家，还把木炭烧红放要烘炉里，置于餐桌下面，表示一家亲热团圆、兴旺发达。

围炉后，上辈人要给16岁以下的未婚男女分压岁钱；也有子女给爸爸、妈妈、爷爷、奶奶压岁钱的；还有丈夫给没职业的妻子压岁钱的。过年分压岁钱的意思对小孩子是已增一岁了，对上辈人是孝敬，对妻子则是夫妻恩爱。压岁，其谐意是压祟，即禳灾驱邪之意。

五、探亡日与白额春联

新年正月初一吃完饭后亲友登门互相拜望，叫做“拜年”，说些吉利话儿，这种习俗和全中国都一样。但以正月初二为“探亡日”，这一天互不登门，以表示对倭寇侵害中死难亲人的哀悼。至今莆田人每年这一天，都不互相串门拜年，或者走亲访友，害怕把霉头带给别人。

有一天，我把一个有30厘米高，直径20厘米的白色大纸炮放在雪堆里，它的威力比小型手榴弹的还大，我用火机点燃了火线，然后我很快的跑进了屋里，1、2、3，轰的一声，好像大地都被震得颤动起来，我跑上去一看，雪堆上有一个很大的洞，比我想象得还要大。我们又把水雷往水里里一扔，很大一个水花一飞冲天，威力无边，把水面的冰都炸得飞了起来，水面上出现了壮观的景象，很多黑色的烟从水而起。

在老家过年真开心，我可以放炮，还可以率领很多童子军，我在老家的这几天玩得很开心。

Spring Festival in my Hometown

The Spring Festival, the most jubilant and important festival in China, is observed by most Chinese people at home and abroad. Our hometown is not an exception.

Similar with other places in china, we prepare for the festival about half a month before. With the lunar New Year approaching, the red lanterns are hung up along the main streets, making the ancient town filled with the festival atmosphere. While people clean up their houses, decorate it with traditional decorations such as Chinese knots and paper cutting. Each family pastes up Spring Festival couplets to convey their best wishes for the coming year.

On the New Year’s Eve, the whole family sits around, having a

sumptuous feast of reunion. It is worth mentioning that the food we have called maiyouzhi is unique. There is a flat piece of wheat sheet covering various vegetable and meat then rolling them up. What a delicious it is! After dinner, the family always watches the Spring Festival Gala Evening, and sets up fireworks to watch in the New Year.

On the first day of the New Year, people pay visits to the relatives and friends to send New Year’s greetings to each other and wish everything smoothly in the new year. The kids can get a lot of lucky money from the elders.

During the whole holiday, there are varied activities in the town such as lion and dragon dance, and all the citizens enjoy them very much.

People celebrate the festival until the Lantern festival. However, the wonderful memory and the joy of the Spring Festival will last long.

My College Life

How time flies! I have been in Zhejiang Gongshang University for a semester. In retrospect, my college life is busy but colorful. Different from my senior high school’s life, the whole new life I led is much freer. I arranged my time,

becoming the master of myself.

First of all, study is still the core of my life. I major in Japanese which is both interesting and challenging. We are required to be accomplished in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. As a result I had to spend most of time in improving my abilities. Besides of the regular courses, I often attended the lecture and went to the library to eich my knowledge, and I do benefit from what I learnt.

As to the after school life, what I consider most meaningful is joining the YVP to serve society. I think it is the responsibility for every university student to make contribution to the community. Little as my effort is, I tried my best to help the people around us. Once the YVP organized us to sell secondhand books and raise the money to help the people indeed.

In addition, I quite enjoy the travels and the bees. Travels let me experience the sunshine, fresh air as well as the special taste of the local customs and practices. While the bees keep the friendship shining, and friends are as if family members. Both of them lit up my life.

All in all, the college life is a journey, and I have long way to go; all the memory is the most precious treasure, and I will value every moment.

要过年了!在大温哥华地区，来自两岸三地的华裔几乎察觉不到是生活在海外。因为在这里，同样有着浓浓的春节气氛：办年货、逛花市、吃年夜饭、看大巡游、探亲访友……今年另一格外引人关注的春节热点是，加国的政治人物更积极主动地与华人共享新春。候任总理哈珀昨天在当选后首场记者会上率先向全加华人拜年;温哥华市长苏利文昨晚在华商会贺岁展销嘉年华上更全文以广东话致辞，向华人祝贺新年快乐，狗年好运。“东风”已西渐，在倡导多元文化共同繁荣的加拿大，春节这一中华传统不仅扎了根更开出茂盛的奇葩。

Now I hope most, is the Spring Festival.

Up early in the morning, I want to be comfortable to wear new clothes to worship ceremony, the elders outside with dad to say hello, and then for a bit of apple, candy, chocolate, pear... Before the Spring Festival I harvest, I for all is not enough. So the Spring Festival, I want to take a lot of delicious, if you eat not to drop, stored, eat later.

At noon, and dad threw bamboo together, a lot of people have a doubt, this is which ethnic customs, let me tell you! This is just our family the only one with this custom. 现在我最期盼的，就是春节了。

一大早起来，我要穿着舒服的新衣服给长辈拜礼，在跟着爸爸去外面问好，再捞点苹果、糖果、巧克力、梨子......以往的春节我收获的东西，还不够我塞牙缝。所以这个春节，我要拿很多的好吃的，要是吃不掉，就储藏起来，以后吃。

中午，和爸爸一起扔竹竿，很多人就有疑问了，这是哪个民族的习俗，让我告诉你吧!这只是我们家唯一一个有这个习俗。规则是：看谁投得远，投得准，这要由两个人组成一组玩，才能玩。一个人拿着竹竿扔，另一个人拿着一个超大号的篮子，接竹竿。这可是要看两人之间的配合、默契，才能胜利、成功。我和爸爸可是老队友，只要我们俩在一起，不会不赢的。

下午，我就和我的妹妹，我的姐姐一起玩，两人向前冲，规则是：一个人的右脚和另外一个人的左脚绑起来，然后向前冲，我跟我姐姐也是老队友了，每次我们上场，就会按1、2 1、2的节奏走起来。

晚上，我们一家子人要一起放烟花。爸爸把一个很大的爆竹一点燃，烟花就拉着一条长长的、五颜六色的尾巴，直冲云霄，绽放出了美丽的舞裙。我们几个小孩子拿着小烟花围着门前的空地转来转去，小烟花就像仙女的仙棒，显现出了漂亮的仙气。我们一家围在一起，边吃丰富的晚餐，边看电视里精彩的节目，一吃完饭，就去村口一个小卖部那里看真人表演.....

这是我期盼的春节，快乐的春节。

Dear Sarah,

I am terribly sorry to tell you that I am unable to attend your birthday

part next Thursday evening. That is owing to the fact that my younger brother

suddenly fell ill and was taken to a hospital this morning. I have to go there

immediately and take care of him. As told by the doctor in charge, it will take

around five days for him to recover and I have asked my boss for a leave.

I really regret that I cannot go to celebrate your birthday personally and

would miss the perfect chance of enjoying myself with all our old friends. I

have chosen a small gift for you and will send it to you tomorrow to show my

best wishes. Besides, please give my regards to our friends when you meet them

at the party.

Spring Festival is the most important festival for Chinese people. The Spring Festival is very exciting, especially on the eve of the Spring Festival.

春节对于中国人来说是最重要的节日。在每年的春节都让人兴高采烈，尤其是大年三十那晚，更是达到了高潮。

The Spring Festival lasts for 15 days, there would be starting on the first day, to the end of the January 15 Lantern Festival.it is the busiest time of the year for Chinese people. The arrangements they have to make for family reunions， buying necessities and preparing food keeps them busy throughout the holiday. Many of them travel back home and meet friends over dinner and drinks. The celebrations include decorating the house and setting off fireworks.But we are talking about a tradition that seems to be fading.

春节一共有15天，从大年初一开始，到元月十五元宵节这一天结束。在这段比较长的时间是中国人最忙的时候，他们为家庭聚会作安排，采购年货，准备丰盛的食物，以至于整个春节假期都忙忙碌碌的。许多人在春季期间都要回老家过年，跟朋友碰碰头，聚个餐。庆祝春节也包括大扫除和放烟火。但是我们现在要谈的是越来越淡的年味。

Spring Festival， as it is celebrated today， has undergone many changes， thanks to the country‘s economic development and globalization.

现在的春节已经因为我国经济的发展和全球化的影响而改变了很多。

Yet no Spring Festival is complete without food. People could not get good food whenever they desired in earlier times， something that does not apply to society today. More often than not， people faced the risk of famine. The best time for people to celebrate was when food was available in plenty， and that was possible in spring， or the beginning of the lunar new year. That was the main reason why Spring Festival acquired such great importance among Chinese people.

但是没有哪个春节是完全离得开“吃”的。从前，不论人们提前多久想要买年货，总是不能如愿，而现在早已今非昔比。过去常常还要闹饥荒。人们最好的庆祝时间就是他们能得到食物丰盛的时候，也就是春天或是元月初的那段时间。那也是为什么春节对于中国人如此重要的主要原因。

But three decades of economic growth has ensured that people in China， except for those who are still poor， can enjoy a good meal whenever they want. Such has been the change in people‘s fortune that some have to be treated for obesity and other health problems associated with excessive eating.

但是三十年来的经济发展已经让中国人，除了那些仍然穷苦的人以外，随时都能享受美食。这得益于人民财富的增长，但是后者也导致一些人吃得太多而受到肥胖威胁和健康问题。

In the past， celebrations were limited to events like song-and-dance duets in North China， dragon/lion dances in South China and fireworks， which required the joint efforts of the entire community. But economic development and urbanization seems to have weakened the social links among people. Many， especially those living in cities， are not interested in celebrating the festival with people they hardly know.

在过去，庆祝春节还只停留在北方的二人转和南方的舞龙舞狮等形式。那些庆祝活动往往需要许多人合力才能办得起来。但是经济的发展和国际化程度的提升似乎已经将这种社会联系弱化了。许多人，特别是城市居民，不太愿意与不相识的人一起共度春节。

Many customs associated with Spring Festival have changed， too. In the past， people used to visit relatives and friends with gifts and lots of good wishes. Today， many people， especially the youth， use their cell phones or the Internet to send their good wishes and even "gifts" to their relatives and friends. Some may say this a sign that people have become less caring about their near and dear ones， but we should see this development as a time- and energy-saving exercise granted by the information age.

与春节相关的许多习俗也被改变了。在过去，人们常常会带着礼物走亲访友，互道祝福。今天许多人，特别是年轻人，用手机或是网络向亲朋好友发去“礼物”和祝福。有些人或许会说，这说明人们已经没有那么关心至爱亲朋了，但是我们应该把这种变化看作信息化时代省钱省力的好办法。

In recent times， many people have started praying for a career promotion or more money instead of invoking God or the Buddha for a healthy and long life and the welfare of their family. But the number of such people is decreasing now， which shows that people are becoming more reasonable.

最近几年，许多人开始祈祷事业高升，财源滚滚，而不是求神拜佛，他们身体健康，长命百岁，家庭美满。但是这样的人数现在正在减少，说明人们开始变得更加理性。

The Chinese Spring Festival comes on the first day of the Chinese Lunar Year, which is usually in February. There is a name for each year, such as the dog, the monkey, the tiger or one of the twelve animals, and this year is the year of the horse.

Before the New Year’s Day, the Chinese people usually give their houses a good cleaning and on the last evening of the old year, all the members of a family will get together and have a big meal. On the first or second day of the new year, people usually go to visit their relatives and friends and give some lucky money to children.

中国的春节是在中国农历的第一天，通常是在二月。每年都有一个名字，比如狗、猴子、老虎或十二生肖中的一种，今年是马年。

在新年到来之前，中国人通常会给他们的房子做个大扫除，在旧年的最后一个晚上，所有的家庭成员都会聚在一起吃一顿大餐。在新年的第一天或第二天，人们通常会去拜访亲戚朋友，给孩子们一些幸运的钱。
