父亲祖辈是农民，和许多农民一样，夏季总是喜欢打卷赤脚。在稻田里干活时，那厚厚的脚板，粗糙的皮肤，和泥土的颜色一样。粗大的脚从泥水中路进、拔出，是那么轻松自如；
小时候，对父亲不穿鞋的样子，倒不觉得怎样。当他背着我膛过小溪，绕过小山，送我上学时，我感到这双脚既平稳又有力，心里充满了安全感。
随着年龄的增长，我知道赤脚很不雅观，渐渐地开始觉得这双脚既土气又难看了，实在不愿让它与我同行。
一天下着大雨，父亲同许多家长一样来接自己的孩子。当我走出教室，一眼见到爸爸的一双笨拙的大脚，羞愧得我无地自容，以至回家的路上我没跟他说一句话。

“拿去，照顾好自己，天晚了，我该回去了。”夕阳把父亲矮矮的躯体拉成了瘦又长的影子，我突然发现父亲的背已驼了，脚步蹄珊，再也不像从前那样壮实有力了。
再次来看我时，父亲脚穿一双崭新的皮鞋。“你看，这双鞋好不好看?"那声音是掩饰不住的喜悦与兴奋。而这时我突然感到很心酸，仿佛失去了什么。看到这不协调的鞋与脚，我的心在流泪。此后不久，父亲就不幸病逝了，这双崭新的鞋成了父亲的遗物，常常引起我对父亲的思念。
