After I read the book that is called “The old man and the sea” I was deeply moved by the old man and his spirit.

The book written by Hemingway tells us a story that an old man whose name is Santiago went out to do some fishing on the sea on his own but down on his luck he hadn’t caught any fish for 84 days. Next day he caught a huge marlin which is bigger than his boat and took a formidable battle with it. He beat it at the end. When he was on the way home the smells of blood of the marlin draw a lot of sharks’ attention and they fought for it. In order to protect the marlin and him the old man tried his best to fight with them. After a cruel fight he won it and came back home tiredly. Although he only got a skeleton of the giant marlin at last he is also a great hero in many people’s heart.

In the article the old man is a great man. Although he failed for many time in his life he never gave up. He is a steel-willing man who insisted his dream and work hard. You can destroy him but you can’t beat him. Whatever he faced to he would never yield to the difficult which shows a strong spirit.

In our lives I think we should learn something from the old man which will make us have a more valuable life. Whenever and wherever we meet trouble we should never give up and try our best to overcome it. We should always keep on our dream and make it come true. Every one has his backbone which can’t be bended by anyone which is very important for everyone in his whole life. If we meet difficulty in our life we should face it bravely and work out some way to solve the problem whatever would happen at last. We can be destroyed but we can’t be beat by anything or anyone. If you failed for many times in your life you wouldn’t surrender because if you try to do it you may succeed in your life but if you do not do it you would not be succeed forever. Everyone has his advantages and disadvantages in his life but we should face to our disadvantages and we must be confident which would also make us be confident of our life. We should have faith in what we do in our life we will have a more beautiful life in the future and our dream will come true. We should pay more attention to what we do during our life rather than what we will get at the end because I think it is more important than any thing you get finally. If you enjoy you life not something you get you will have a meaningful life and a noble spirit. It will hurt you when you pay more attention to what you get in the future. It will also make you do something wrong which is bad for other people our society and our country.

I’m impressed by the sentence which is “We can be destroyed but we can’t be beat.” I think everyone should do it no matter what happen in our life. This book makes me know something I didn’t know in the past. The book and the old man have a great influence in my life. I love this book.

"The great gatsby is a harbor of" American dream "in the literature writer Fitzgeralds works, Fitzgerald said his own extraordinary, with his parents is different also, dont even think of themselves as the son of parents, he has come from the self Platonic idea.

In this article, the hero that gatsby is a unique thought of the people, he also have Platonic love. He put himself as the son of god, he thought he should be gods career service, his pursuit of a "vast, secular, ostentation of beauty", obviously he imagine himself become Christs character. Seventeen, he decided to change name, from the original James gates to jay gatsby, jay gatsby is said to be English Jesus, God ` s boy pronunciation variation. But the irony is that, from the moment he changed his name, he began to pursue the so-called beauty and kindness, also began his tragic life. He saw Daisy buchanan as he pursues the incarnation of beauty. When he saw her, he knew that she had put his ideal and his life together. He knew his heart to heart with god, must be single-minded, never heart side wu chi. When he kissed her for the first time, "she is just like a flower bloom for him, and the embodiment of this ideal is done." On Daisy, gatsbys dream became flesh and blood. He desire and Daisy together to realize their dreams.

However, Daisy cannot act as the role. She is a just a miss the bourgeoisie for the highest goal in life, no thoughts, there is no sentiment, shallow false, bored, nothing to do. She never to realize gates than his dream to sacrifice their own vested interests. While gatsby himself could not achieve their dreams, of course, his idea is too unreal. He and Daisys husband Tom buchanan possess wealth, the difference between two people is at least he used his wealth to pursue a kind of "beauty", and try my best to get it. However, he didnt win it, finally, George Wilson, is Toms mistresss husband in Daisy couple killed gatsby conspired and egged. His dream completely shattered. Gatsbys failure is the fundamental reason is that he did the "American dream" has been out of date, his opportunity had little s dream come true.

I felt sorry for gatsby, he is so single-minded, but in the end was hurt by their favorite woman. Of course he is praiseworthy in some places. He can read the love is beautiful, and not like most people associate love and interests. But he really misled by his ideal, he did not see time and occasion, he shouldnt be on the right people also is reluctant to part with the past memories after married. And Daisy this person too vain, too greedy. To some extent, gates than the final fate has a lot to do with her.

Huckleberry Finn was a great literary work published in 1885 and written by Mark Twain. One of the most positive things about the book would be that the reading level is not very advanced and that it shows us a glimpse of the past. Along with the reading level not being very advanced, the book itself is extremely well thought out, and brings the stories, characters, and imagery to life. One of the negatives is the amount of cursing that takes place throughout the book. This is a negative because it is at a children"s reading level and it does not add any literary value to the book as a piece of history. The ugly but I believe necessary part of the book is the use of the n-word. This is a necessary part of the book because it shows to our children and everyone the meaning behind the word. If anything it makes the reader more understanding of the troubles that the slaves when though and understand the meaning of the word a little more deeply.

This book was great, a masterpiece for the lack of words to describe how entirely wonderful it is. The book was a great classic, the only reason that I did read it is because we have to read a classic for school, however, now that I have read it I realize that it was a great book. I would read this book two or three times, and I do not like reading books again. The book was really able to portray the idea of childhood innocence and foolishness in the book, especially the end. I thought that this book was really an eye opener for people who may think that life is not worth living or maybe derpessed. Because, as you can see, Huck was a young boy who had an alcoholic father who beat him all the time, even kidnapped him after he was adopted by other people. Huck even decided to run away from his father, yet he is still a young, fun loving kid in the end, especially when Tom reveals to him how the whole trip was just a game. The only thing I have to say against the book is that it did seem a little racist with its words, however maybe this is just how they talked in that time period? Overall a great read that I highly reccomend.

Published in 1847, WUTHERING HEIGHTS was not well received by the reading public, many of whom condemned it as sordid, vulgar, and unnatural--and author Emily Bronte went to her grave in 1848 believing that her only novel was a failure. It was not until 1850, when WUTHERING HEIGHTS received a second printing with an introduction by Emilys sister Charlotte, that it attracted a wide readership. And from that point the reputation of the book has never looked back. Today it is widely recognized as one of the great novels of English literature.

Even so, WUTHERING HEIGHTS continues to divide readers. It is not a pretty love story; rather, it is swirling tale of largely unlikeable people caught up in obsessive love that turns to dark madness. It is cruel, violent, dark and brooding, and many people find it extremely unpleasant. And yet--it possesses a grandeur of language and design, a sense of tremendous pity and great loss that sets it apart from virtually every other novel written.

The novel is told in the form of an extended flashback. After a visit to his strange landlord, a newcomer to the area desires to know the history of the family--which he receives from Nelly Deans, a servant who introduces us to the Earnshaw family who once resided in the house known as Wuthering Heights. It was once a cheerful place, but Old Earnshaw adopted a "Gipsy" child who he named Heathcliff. And Catherine, daughter of the house, found in him the perfect companion: wild, rude, and as proud and cruel as she. But although Catherine loves him, even recognizes him as her soulmate, she cannot lower herself to marry so far below her social station. She instead marries another, and in so doing sets in motion an obsession that will destroy them all.

WUTHERING HEIGHTS is a bit difficult to "get into;" the opening chapters are so dark in their portrait of the end result of this obsessive love that they are somewhat off-putting. But they feed into the flow of the work in a remarkable way, setting the stage for one of the most remarkable structures in all of literature, a story that circles upon itself in a series of repetitions as it plays out across two generations. Catherine and Heathcliff are equally remarkable, both vicious and cruel, and yet never able to shed their impossible love no matter how brutally one may wound the other.

As the novel coils further into alcoholism, seduction, and one of the most elaborately imagined plans of revenge it gathers into a ghostly tone: Heathcliff, driven to madness by a woman who is not there but who seems reflected in every part of his world--dragging her corpse from the grave, hearing her calling to him from the moors, escalating his brutality not for the sake of brutality but so that her memory will never fade, so that she may never leave his mind until death itself. Yes, this is madness, insanity, and there is no peace this side of the grave or even beyond.

It is a stunning novel, frightening, inexorable, unsettling, filled with unbridled passion that makes one cringe. Even if you do not like it, you should read it at least once--and those who do like it will return to it again and again.

After reading this book I think it is necessary to share the old legend to everybody .

There is a legend about a bird which sings just once in its life, more sweetly than any other creature on the face of the earth. From the moment it lea一ves the nest it searches for a thorn tree, and does not rest until it has found one. Then, singing among the sa一vage branches, it impales itself upon the longest, sharpest spine. And, dying, it rises above its own agony to out- carol the lark and the nightingale. One superlative song, existence the price. But the whole world stills to listen, and God in His hea一ven smiles. For the best is only bought at the cost of great pain …

Meggie Cleary is just like the bird, and Ralph is her superlative song.

I read the book then watched the movie, both of them ga一ve me great shock, I really admire Meggie, she had the courage to use her whole life to love Ralph, never ga一ve up. She believed that she would love Ralph only in her life. But I don’t like Meggie’s attitude to love, Ralph is a Father, and he mustn’t love Meggie, they really loved each other, but they are not destined to be together. So in my opinion I think Meggie should give in, she shouldn’t fight with God, Ralph had told her he would serve God forever, so Meggie wouldn’t win. Maybe giving up is a good choice. Their love is painful.

Tell the turth I don’t like Meggie neither Ralph, Ralph could not give Meggie happniess while Meggie couldn’t support Ralph to concentrate on his work. So they would not ha一ve happy life, they only made each other feel sad .

Frank is my fa一vorite role. he was short but strong ,and he was one of the main labor in his family. He didn’t want to be a shepherd, but the family needed him , and he must feed he the sheep so that everybody in his family can live better. Once he escaped from home , but it wassn’t long before his father found him and take him home. I feel so sorry that he had a miserable fate. He longed for freedom but most of his life didn’t belong to himself, it’s really a pity .

Frank was different to every man in their home, he loved his mother deeply, and he always helped his mother do the housework. he dreamed to be an outstanding boxer. Frank was considerable, and he always try his best to make Meggie feel happy. As Meggie’s oldest brother, he could be worried about Meggie’s fa一vorite doll, and he even tried to fixed the doll which was distroyed by Meggie’s other brothers. Frank and Meggie would always tell each other what they thought in their deep heart , and they are close friends.

I was so sad when I learned that Frank killed a man and he was sent to the prision. It is really a big shock to Meggie, for Frank was the only one who can listen to Meggie’s secrets. She thought she lost Frank forever. I cannot imagine how painful for Frank to spend dozens years in the prision. He once had good dream about his life, but he had to waste most of his life in prision. In my opinion it was Frank’s father that distoryed his life. His father didn’ t give him freedom, and Frank can’t had strong resistance spirits, and because he didn’t control himself and broke the law.The energitic Frank will never come to us, and he became a man who didn’t wanna talk. He began to be afraid of the world…it is really a pity.

As for Meggie, I think she was a good girl. She was beautiful and smart, but she it was wrong for her to love Ralph. Meggie was an excellent girl, she was able to find an outstanding boy to love her, but she put all her love on Ralph even she married Luke. She married Luke just because Luke looked like Ralph. Meggie wanna be a thorn bird, but I think it was too cruel to her. She was so kind that she shouldn’t stand that king of pain, and I think she was born to ha一ve a happy life. I pity for her.

Both the story of thorn birds and the legend are painful and beautiful, but not every one can be the thorn birds, because it is not our porpose to ha一ve a painful life. We are born to be happy. Olny happiness is the ture meaning of life while the story was written for us to enrich our life. It is a wonderful story.

La dame aux camelias alexandre dumas, French is the author of this novel, let me feel too deep, the feeling is too deep.

Ancient beauty rush, more beautiful appearance bring infinite sadness and tragedy. While prostitutes, especially beautiful and talented prostitute, go along this road is hard. Such as ten niangs, fear and love and hate into the spring waters flowed eastward; Chen sisi, round fate is also a sigh, a helpless. And Ive seen la dame aux camelias after just understand this kind of tragedy is not only happened in China.

This is Margarets love tragedy story. The humble a weak woman in dissolute and no purpose to find the true love in life, used to abandon their material comforts, gave up everything to make yourself happy for the time being the erosion life habit, can only to ask and favorite people together. To climb out, from the deep mire is to spend a lot of strength and determination, and also make their minimum mud pollution. Margaret did, and do very well. Can be so great, in return for the remains of people dont understand and exclusion, and selfish people malicious slander. Huge resistance to Margaret and eventually lovers separated, misunderstanding to your most favorite people need comfort to expose her, this is how painful thing? Perhaps really only death can save her. Yes, Margaret died, died lonely, never alive when luxury, countless lovers also forget her before. Before the more sensation of life, death, the more cold and cheerless.

Thank dumas created such a sad La Traviata and lovely beautiful woman. However, in the hope that the dead flower bud from the soil, rebirth again, away from the dark corner, can every day and the sun company, even if no longer so beautiful, dont repeat the tragedy of the past.

Oliver Twist one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens is a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century.

The author who himself was born in a poor family wrote this novel in his twenties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London.

The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist an orphan who was thrown into a world full of poverty and crime. He suffered enormous pain such as hunger thirst beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt for the poor boy but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief as was written in all the best stories the goodness eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end. One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose and began a new life. He went for walks with them or Rose read to him and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty.

How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens—he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I dont think goodness is omnipotent yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded.

For me the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary as the famous saying goes The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself.

To my disappointment nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity. They look down on peoples honesty and kindness thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. As a result they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand they attach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing theirkindness they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest.

Francis Bacon said in his essay Goodness of all virtues and dignities of the mind is the greatest being the character of the Deity and without it man is a busy mischievous wretched thing no better than a kind of vermin.

That is to say a person without goodness is destined to lose everything. Therefore I a kind person want to tell thosevermin-to-beto learn from the kind Oliver and regain the nature of goodness.

On Sister Carrie Carrie was such an ordinary rural girl at the beginning of the story. Sitting on the seat of a bus she couldn’t help feeling exciting at the sight of the metropolis’ spectacle. She was impressed deeply by large crowd on the avenue the spacious square or tall buildings. Far more different from other heroines Carrie was not a plain pure angel like Snow-white nor was she brave enough to be a heroine of revolutionist or even a reformer nor was she so clever as to be a successful career woman who start from scratch.

What attracted her most after her entering this huge metropolis was the incredible fineries fashion shoes smart handbags displaying in the shop windows the jewellerys shining brightly behind the glass. She dreamed that one day she could wear all of these jogging gracefully into the most luxurious hotel with focused sights of admiration. And this was not merely a dream. Because she had large eyes which can earn others’ sympathy even love. She had wonderful figure which can win others’ hearts. However anything she got anywhere she reached had not come from her ambition.

Things happened and then she accepted. That’s what she had just done ? just to accept willingly from the bottom of her heart. She was not at all an evil woman who would give anything for the fortune or fame. However she would give uo something for a better life when her instinct defeated her intellect.

That was Carrie a girl had her own desire a human being just like many others in the realistic world. There’s one sentence written in chapter VIII:” When this jangle of free-will instinct shall have been adjusted when perfect understanding has given the former the power to replace the latter entirely man will no longer vary.” However how many people can go that further.

"Jane eyre" this a masterpiece of world literature treasure house, was I found recently. I carefully read. "Jane love" Britain is the author of charlotte. Bronte, she was born in a mountain town of Thornton, Yorkshire, England, is the village priest Patrick. Brontes third child. Charlotte in August 1847, written in the novel "Jane love". Later, Jane eyre was sent to an orphanage, living in there for eight years. And then, Jane went to a governess, finally married to Mr. Rochester.

I like the fifth chapter: to longwood (lowood orphanage). At the time, JianGang to the orphanage, she experienced a very hard day. The orphanage children a week can eat no more than two bread and cheese and coffee, and they eat the burned out of porridget reply, up to very late every day in the morning to wait until the water washing a face, the teacher is very strict, do something wrong will be standing in the hall, but things have one teacher, miss Tan Bo son has broken some rules, let the students live a better life.

At the beginning of this century, many new writers emerged with the introduction of many new ideas. Among them, Jack London was the most popular one.

His most famous novel is the call of the wild . Although it is a story about a dog, Buck, it vividly depicts the life in the primitive North where people rushed for gold and fortune.

Buck, used to belong to a judge, was kidnapped and sold to North. Then he became a member of a dog-team pulling a sled . In the days of pulling a snow-sled, he learned to conform to the law of nature and obey the master. Finally, he found a basic instinct hidden inside him, which enabled himself to survive the tough environment. This is the call of the wild.

When you read the story, you will feel that Buck is a man instead of a dog, struggling with his fortune and conforming to the law of nature.

Though short, it is really a thrilling story. What you never forget is the tough life in the nature, the brave and crafty dog. Maybe the wild is calling you to go ahead.

While writing for only 16 years throughout his life, London produced an amazing body of work among which, White Fang, Martin Eden, the Valley of the Moon are representative.
