Black Beauty formed an impassioned plea for animal rights at a time when such a notion had been dismissed as ridiculous.

The novel portrayed the real condition of working horses living in Britain during the Victorian Era. In that time period, the wealthy thought that their horses were treated well because they never stepped into the stable. In order to call people’s attention to horses’ hard life, Sewell tells the story through the first-person narrative voice of a horse. This innovative personification of an animal made the book a real success. Readers heard the stories straight from the horse’s mouth, literally, as an animal spoke of extremes of joy and suffering. People were shocked by the truth exposed by the novel and changed their attitudes towards animals.

Sewell formed the novel with three kinds of characters: Black Beauty, Ginger and other farm animals. Through their different experiences, I saw similarly painful lives led by the animals. This method made the earnest appeal for animal rights become more and more persuasive.

As a domestic animal, Black Beauty was continuously sold from one family to another. Over the years Beauty enjoyed good masters but also endured mean ones. Sometimes, he was cared for and at other times tortured. In the end, everything turns out all right in a story that is so tender and yet meaningful. His story was so vivid that caught the readers’ heart. The novel brought people laughter and tears and also enlightened them to understand animals at the same time.

The bridge was flooded out in the river and John, the groom, was not aware that it was cracked. But the quickly realized that something was wrong because of Beauty’s abnormal behavior. I watched Hachiko: A Dog’s Story days ago, eyes filling with tear. It’s really a fantasticly moving film.

The plot went as: A college professor (Richard Gere) took in an abandoned dog and they formed an unbreakable bond. The dog arrived daily at the correct time at the station, to meet his owner. After the professor died while away from home, the dog kept vigil waiting for his master for nearly a decade.

To wait for your love for a decade, which contains almost the whole life-time of Hachi, it’s an incredible dedication that we human beings never has. This is why the film strikes us a lot.

No one has the ability to show his love to only one person during his whole life, let alone make friends with only one people; have the food that never changes year by year; do the same damn thing without complaining and conciousness of exhaustion. We can’t! However, what we could learn from Hachi is that we should never forget the one we once loved.

暑假里，老师推荐我们看的好书其中一本叫《昆虫记》。当买来这本书打开看时，一下子就把我给吸引住了，这本书里记录了生物界中各种各样、形形色色的昆虫，有萤火虫、蚂蚁、蜜蜂、和蟑螂等等，都是我平时生活中很少了解的，在这本书里写的是那么详细，让我增加了许多对昆虫的了解。比如我知道了：萤火虫有两个很有意思的特征：第一，就是它获取食物的方法;第二，就是它的尾巴上有灯。我还了解到了那么可爱的萤火虫竟然是一个肉食主义者，而且手段很毒辣，猎物是大它许多倍的蜗牛，我真是没想到一只如此娇小的萤火虫竟然那么厉害。

因为平时人们在把蜜蜂当作勤劳的楷模，形容哪个人勤快就会说像一只勤劳的小蜜蜂，所以一直对它充满了好感，在这本书里记录了很多品种的蜂，有：黄蜂、赤条蜂、泥水匠蜂、工蜂，描写得非常详细，其中让我特别佩服的是:泥水匠蜂，它造的屋子全部都是用泥土做成的，而且也没有加水泥，它们用的是从湿地上取来的潮湿的泥土。但是，那泥土很宝贵，所以，泥水匠蜂每次都会来回飞好几次，而且一次也不休息，直到做好房子才好。而且，它们做的房子不容易倒塌，很坚固。

在读完这本书之后，我才了解到昆虫界竟然有如此至多的昆虫，和它们的生活习性，这些事情都值得我们人类好好学习的，比如：泥水匠蜂造地屋子和坚持不懈的精神，蚂蚁们的团结友爱的品质，还有等等一系列的事情。其实，在人类的生活中也有许多以昆虫为启示而发明的东西，如：以蜻蜓的翅膀而发明了直升飞机，以萤火虫到人工冷光等等。可是，人类有时为了个人私利，而大量捕捉昆虫，如：蝴蝶谷的蝴蝶，因人类的捕捉而变得数量稀少，有的种类甚至灭绝，现在的蝴蝶谷已经不再那么美丽夺目，充满生机。所以，我们要保护昆虫，要知道昆虫也是地球生物链上不可缺少的一环，昆虫的生命也应当得到尊重而不是随意的被人类捕捉，卖钱。像这本书的作者一样，去大自然中探秘，去了解动物、植物和昆虫，就会慢慢的喜欢上大自然。

作者写出这些都是因为他仔细观察。记得有一次，我发现了一队蚂蚁正在搬食物，经过观察我发现，蚂蚁是先把食物切成小块，然后顶在头上，搬回窝里，然后原路回，再搬。后来还写了篇有关蚂蚁的观察日记得到了老师的表扬呢。现在我明白了：不能只对我们感兴趣的事仔细观察，应该对周围的所有的事仔细观察，才能做到无处不文章。瞧，小小的昆虫也蕴含着大学问呢！

During this term I have read a novel The Red and the Black. The novel was written by the French writer Stendhal in the 19th century. Marie·Henri Beyle better known by his pen name Stendhal was one of the critical realism French writers in the 19th century . The military and theatrical worlds of the First French Empire were a revelation to Beyle. Known for his acute analysis of his characters’ psychology and reflection of society he is considered one of the earliest and foremost practitioners of realism in his two novels Le Rouge et le Noir (The Red and the Black 1830) and La Chartreuse de Parme (The Charterhouse of Parma 1839). Stendhal laid down for himself in a diary entry of May 1804:“regard everything I’ve read to date about man as a prediction; believe only what I have seen for myself. I have never been to Troy, but David Maule made me feel as if I were standing on the high wall of Troy, watching the fierce war. It is natural to see death in a war. As a famous Chinese parable says, “A life can be as slight as a piece of feather, or as weighty as Mount Tai.” Sometimes, one’s glory walks hand in hand with one’s doom. Achilles was such a typical person. His personal charm made The Story of Troy more attractive. He was so crucial because his every appearance in a war encouraged his fellow soldiers and terrified the enemies. Actually, Achilles was half-god who was almost invincible in people’s mind. That’s why his name was memorized long after his death.

After the duel between those two people, there was a truce between the Greek alliance and Troy. However, both Hera and Athena were not happy to see it. Hera pursued her husband ZEUS:“ Now, will you send Athena to make the Troyjans break the peace?”(Page 22) Then with Zeus’s permission, Athena went down to start the war again and finally she brought the Greeks to success.

From the whole story, we can see that in ancient Greeks’ view, gods sometimes played a much more important role in their life. However, with the rapid development of science, we have learned that the Greek gods never existed. This is why a recent movie of Troy has not mentioned a single god.
