That was spectacular. Tonight, the world was able to join in a magnificent tribute to the athletes and the Olympic spirit. It was an unforgettable and moving ceremony that celebrated the imagination, originality and energy of the Beijing Games.

We saw 204 national delegations march into the beautiful new National Stadium in the age-old tradition of the Games. Millions of people around the world were able to experience the thrill of seeing their heroes in a sea of team colours and national flags.

We witnessed athletes from these 204 countries and territories united in peace in one place. And for the next 16 days, they will be a part of one of the most thrilling competitions in history. As an Olympian, I can tell you that they will carry this memory with them forever.

This iconic stadium is one of the worlds new wonders. It was a fitting setting for an amazing Opening Ceremony, I look forward to an equally exciting and unforgettable 16 days.

Generally, war is repugnant, but peace is welcome.While peace is the ultimate goal of all of our undertaking in this world, war has been inevitable in the course of human civilization. Does man have an innate taste for war? Or is it just an acquired scheme learned from human society? The smiley face knows no politics, no geography and no religion. Harvey’s idea was that for at least one day each year, neither should we. He declared that the first Friday in October each year would henceforth be World Smile Day.

The very first World Smile Day took place in Worcester, MA on October 1, 1999. What a celebration it was! State and local dignitaries gathered and read proclamations in support of the day. Another proclamation recognizing the day was read on the floor of the United States Congress and is now part of the Congressional Record, the reporter of the official proceedings of the US Congress. Thousands of Worcester school children created World Smile Day® cards that were then delivered to area hospitals and nursing homes. The event became national and even international news.

The US Postal service came to Worcester that day to unveil its new Smiley Face stamp design. And, the Postal Service issued a special cancellation just for that event. Each year since then the USPS has issued a different cancellation commemorating the day.

In his inaugural address on that very first World Smile Day Harvey Ball laid the groundwork for that World Smile Day saying that the smiley face “…just reflects what is inside every one of us – a smile is what we want to see when we look at another human being.” He said, “Sometimes we forget that. Sometimes the world seems big and filled with problems that are too hard to understand much less solve. We start to believe that we are too small to make a difference. But that’s not true. The truth is that every one of us has the ability to make a difference every day.”

Harveys hometown of Worcester, MA has been and continues to be the epicenter for World Smile Day.

“咳!”床上的母亲不禁咳了一声，床边的那个稚嫩的17岁少年，忽地醒来了。

天还未全亮，家中唯一的一只公鸡也还未打鸣。少年坐起来，屁股下的床铺仍未有一丁点儿的温暖。他又失眠了，最近总是这样，仿佛一睡下就会有噩梦接踵而至。他也只有无奈一笑。

母亲已咳了三声，他赶忙走出了屋子。立在门边，头顶的黑暗却已透出些许灰色的光芒。他想要抬头仰望一下头顶的天空，却忽然明白这只是徒劳而已。随手拿起门边的竹筐，套在背上——他出发了。

走了大概百米远，一回头，远处，隐约间还能望见枝条婆娑里破败的小屋，上面还有几缕炊烟。黑暗之中唯有这屋子最为清晰。他有点想回家了。

走了不知多远，天空不觉间已透亮了。太阳不在，白云不在，一切都已不在。这条狭窄的山路有些泥泞，大概是被他的汗水所浇灌的。再一回头，家已消失在远方。闭眼，睁开，家又在远方了。

铁路上有许多煤炭，他伸出自己布满老茧的手，一把又一把装进箩筐里。

大约一个小时之后，一步又一步，向着离家更远的地方走去。他的模样已颇为狼狈，漆黑的发，漆黑的脸，漆黑的衣服漆黑的手。过路人并不多，但看见他的人都没有笑。他似乎与刚出门时的黑暗一模一样。

又走了一会儿，将竹筐里的煤炭倒在地上，老板从袋子里拿出一个钱包，打开钱包里面是几张一百元面值的人民币，他只看了一眼便赶忙转过头。老板拿出一张一块钱放在他那黑漆漆颤抖的手上，那张钱也变黑了。

提着竹筐，往回走着。

他突然想起了家，那个令他整夜失眠的家，仿佛其他的一切都已不存在。

家里的一切如幻灯片一般在他眼中浮现，没有黑暗，没有光明，只充满浓浓爱意。

小时候，一说去姥姥家，我总是兴奋不已，因为那里有我思念的东西。

那时，爸爸妈妈嫌我太小，不能养宠物，而姥姥家养的狗，却成了我梦寐以求的小伙伴。

它的样子憨态可掬，走起路来一颠一颠地，两只眼睛总是不停地眨着，耳朵则耷拉在它浓密的金毛上。它跑起来迅如疾风，威风凛凛。以前，我对这条狗爱护有加，但也不时顽皮几下。一会儿我便笨拙地骑在它的背上当马使，用小手轻轻拍打着金毛的屁股，而这位“狗先生”总是漫不经心地甩一甩毛，我便“扑通”一下跌到了地上。

当然，当时的我很小，而那只狗又很庞大，即使卧在地上，也像个巨人。在姥姥家的每一天，我总是不由得拉着它出去散步，一个小孩牵着一只“庞然大物”在街上遛弯儿，必定是一道别样的风景。而我牵着的那条狗总是不让我省心，只见它扬着头，踏着小碎步，像一位彬彬有礼的王子。但它的行为使我对刚才的想法产生了悔恨，它一会儿大幅度地甩着毛，害的被它的动作而甩起，它一会儿又疯了似地跑，然后又猛得停下。而它疯跑时，我又不得不跟着狂奔，它停下时，我又因为没有刹住车而一下子栽了过去。这只狗扰得我心神不宁，狼狈不堪。

正当我喘息之时，金毛好像闻到了一股浓浓的肉香，于是便像被鬼抓住了似的，疯狂地挣脱掉了套在它脖子上的狗绳，朝马路对面跑去。我顿时也慌了神儿，抓着被它挣脱掉了的狗绳，跌跌撞撞地追随着它的方向奔去。好不容易到了马路那头的我，来不及擦快流进眼里的汗珠便开始到处寻找它的身影。终于，在一家卖肉的铺子前找到讨好肉摊主人的那只没有出息的狗。我匆忙跑过去，一把抓住它，使出九牛二虎之力，把它硬生生地拖走了……

之后，我一有空就来找它玩儿，它也极其乐意地配合，我们成了亲密无间的“好伙伴”。

但那样无忧无虑的日子很快便结束了。第二年的正月里，我又要回姥姥家了。同往常一样，我激动地急忙给姥姥打电话询问那只金毛最近的情况。这时，电话那头却传来了低沉的声音：“它不见了!”“什么?怎么不见了?”“大过年的，家家户户都在放炮。别看那狗个头那么大，胆子却小得哩!那炮声给它吓跑了……”“那找到了没?”“没……”然后，电话那头便成了一片死寂。

从那以后，我再也没有听说那只狗的事。

七八年过去了，我并不盼望它还能回来，而我那思念也渐渐没有了着落。但它那机警的双眼和那泛着金黄色的毛发的身影却在眼前挥之不去——我最好的伙伴。

I was at the shopping mall and I spent a lot of time reading the Fathers Day cards. They all had a special message that in some way or another reflected how I feel about you. Yet as I selected and read, and selected and read again, it occurred to me that not a single card said what I really want to say to you.

Youll soon be 42 years old, Dad, and you and I will have had 55 Fathers Days together. I havent always been with you on Fathers Day nor have I been with you for all of your birthdays. It wasnt because I didnt want to be with you. Ive always been with you in my heart but sometimes life gets in the way.

时光匆匆流逝，曾不给人一个眼神。渐渐地，窗外梧桐树早已枯黄。一只孤雁掠过，落叶满地，斑驳的墙面透着岁月的清冷。一滴水从青瓦上滴下，在时光的池塘里泛起阵阵涟漪。从牙牙学语的顽皮小孩，到初二的志学少年，我在一天天地成长着，渐渐认识到我的梦在远方!

起初，“梦想”对于我来说就是长大之后要干的事。每当有人问起我的梦想是什么，也许是年幼无知，也许是梦想太多，我的答案总是变化不定的，有时说要当作家，有时又说要当科学家。

到八岁的时候，我迷上了阅读，每次都要妈妈买上一堆的书，放学后就一头扎进书堆里津津有味地阅读起来。那时的我的梦想很简单，就是能够不停地看书，童话、科幻、推理，只要好看就行。

再后来，我渐渐不趋于数量上的满足，而是更加在意质量。《三体》中所描述的宏伟的宇宙，深深地勾起了我对浩瀚宇宙的向往，我深深沉浸在其中：我仿佛乘坐着恒星际航行飞船穿梭在辽阔的宇宙中;为黑暗森林法则而震撼;为坚不可摧的“水滴”而惊叹;为弹出二向箔的歌者的歌谣所着迷。同时，我也被刘慈欣超凡的想象力所折服;一本本的好书带领着我走进了他们的世界。我和夏洛克?福尔摩斯在一个个案发现场搜寻着蛛丝马迹;我和孙悟空一起保护师父，腾云驾雾，一个筋斗十万八千里;我还和美髯公关羽一起过五关斩六将……

长大之后，随着学业负担的不断加重，我能够用来阅读的时间越来越少，但是，我还是能腾出一些空余时间来阅读。我曾多次幻想成为书中的角色，但是沉重的学业也把我拉回到了现实。升入初二，我渐渐地感觉到学习的乐趣。原来，学习也和阅读一样有趣。于是，我开始全身心地投入到学习中去，果然取得了不错的成绩。现在，我才真正理解了梦想的`意义。它让我成为了更好的自己!

心怀蓝天梦，雄鹰才能展翅高飞，翱翔于天际;心怀海洋梦，鱼儿才能不畏险阻，畅游于大海;心怀草原梦，骏马才能挣脱缰绳，奔驰于草原。而我，心中怀揣一份阅读梦，乘着学习的帆船，总有一天会渡过书海，到达梦的远方!

什么才是真正的强大?打个比方说：满身肌肉的男人玉瘦得像柴火一样的男人打架，前者即使满身力量也会轻易被后者绊倒。于是到底什么事真正的强大引发了我们的思考。

是否输出价值观是判断一个人是否强大的真正标准。

中国文学史上经久不衰的鲁迅先生便充分体现了这一观点。他并不是什么有强大外表的人却拥有者伟大的精神财富，他用文字作药剂救活了无数中国人的心。所以在我看来他才是一个强大的人。他所给予给中国人的价值观支撑了那一个时代的思想。真正的强大决非外表。更重要的是不肯平的心。中国更是这样，它的人数是世界之最，提有国家都在畏惧于它强大的外表下时却都在不属于他只是外表强大而已，中国可以向全世界出口物品却无法出口价值观。中国想要成为强国大国拥有思想是必可少的。

记得一位伟人曾经产过：“能让我感受到压力的不是你在展露你的肌肉而是微笑着沉默不语。”中国就像是一个强大的空壳，它仿佛没有秘密，拿不出精神文化去感染西方的国家，这大概就是很多西方国家瞧不起中国的原因。中国处于发展中国家，它注重发展经济去壮大整个经济体系而忽略了百姓大众的精神教育，当我们的思想上升了一个台阶，对外出口的东西从看得见摸的到的实物变成了一种文化一种思想。

中国的各大电视台不惜花重金去购买外国的电视节目。我们在中国虽然看得很开心，可的电视节目，电视节目是一个大的舞台也是一个国家总体思想的休现。在我们拿着国外的剧本翻拍中国的电视剧，在我们国产电影电视剧骂声一片之时，我们应该思考为什么会是这样，我们更多的应该发展自己的思想去变得真正强大。

什么是强大，这也许永远没有定论，然而思想的强远远经实体的强大更重要。

不可否认我们应该强大自己的肉身为自己提供保障，然而强大自己的思想与文化才是中国变成强国之本。
