Social Networking’s Influence on College Students

Social networking has gained huge worldwide popularity in recent years, especially among college students. In China, college student is the main force of social networking, 97.7% of which are fond of instant messaging and 80.7% prefer social networking sites like micro-blog and Q-zone (China Internet Network Information Center, 2013). Moreover, Michigan State University Original Study also finds that compared with Chinese students, American students are more tied to social media (2013). Therefore, nowadays there is a heated debate about advantages and disadvantages about social networking’s influence on college students.

Obviously, there are a number of positive features on social networking. It provides a convenient access to consolidate the relationship with people they know, make friends with strangers without restrictions of space and share happiness and sorrow. However, every coin has two sides. There are also many disadvantages on the influence of social networking, among which, “soft addiction” is the most serious problem, distracting students from study. Because of lack of self-restriction, many students would waste plenty of time to search the social networking sites unconsciously, followed by a strong tendency to blame themselves (Li, 2013). This kind of “soft addiction” and distraction was also confirmed by Zhang (2011) who conducted a survey by questionare of 500 Chinese college students from different schools and found that 33% students could not bear one-week life without social networking and 77% students could not help themselves accessing social networking site during classes. Furthermore, a social experiment was performed by Harrisburg University (Pilkington, 2010) to figure out the effect after initiating blackout of all social networking sites. It turned out that some students became more concentrated on

the tutor and making notes instead of having instant messaging running in classes.

As far as I’m concerned, the disadvantages far outweigh the advantages, especially in China, where social networking is used for communication and entertainment and seldom plays the educational role (Li, 2011). 在实践的七天中，我们遇到的最大困难就是天气的无常变化。但是，正是这恶劣的天气，让我们再一次经受了考验，我们顶风冒雨，排除一切不利因素，取得了七天的圆满胜利。刚去医院，对于我们这些工科出身的志愿者来说，一切并不是想象中那么简单，但是我们始终相信：“只要信念永存，胜利就在前方”。很快，凭借着工科学生勤于动手、善于动手的优势，我们以最快的速度熟悉了相关的工作程序。在这七天里，除了帮医务人员劝解不文明现象、打扫卫生，为医院带去和谐之外，我们把更多的精力放在了躺在病床上的患者们。我们与他们亲切的交谈，也耐心的听他们讲过来人的经历，我们感触颇深。在于老人的交谈中，我们发现他们依旧活力永驻，但是他们的活力一时间难以激发，究其原因就是生活环境。此外，我们深深意识到老人们内心的孤独，他们多么渴望能得到儿女，哪怕不是儿女的重视。每当与他们交谈，他们就会乐此不疲，津津乐道。为此，我们以团队的名义向全社会发出了敬老助老爱老的倡议书，我们深知拥有丰富人生阅历的老年人依旧是我们国家和民族的宝贵财富，依旧需要我们这一代、下一代、一代代的呵护与关怀。

在实践接近尾声之时，又一件令人感动的事情在我们的身边发生了。那是一个关于一对年迈夫妇的故事，妻子久经病痛折磨，已经沧桑不堪，但是丈夫依旧不离不弃、关怀备至。他们老夫老妻不经意的举动向我们传递着“人间真情永存，患难时方可知”的信号。我们感动着，也祈祷着，我们不渴求有朝一日他们能财富万千，但求他们能乐享晚年。

总结我的这次暑期社会实践活动，虽然是我的第一次社会实践，但我认为是一次成功的、有用的、受益匪浅的社会实践。这将会对我的以后的学习和生活起很大的帮助。让我感到加入“志愿支医，携手同行”实践队是多么的荣幸。 在这短短的一周时间里，我们碰过壁，受过累，流过汗，但是我们却成长了，我们继承和发扬了大学生勇于实践的光荣传统，进一步弘扬了中华名族敬老爱老的传统美德，树立和落实了科学发展观。用实际行动赢得了社会的认可和好评，这次亲身体验让我有了深刻感触，这不仅是一次实践，还是一次人生经历，亦是一生宝贵的财富。

In recent years, the volunteering spirit has spread among the Chinese

people, especially among youngsters. According to a survey, in 20__, there were

about 1,700,000 volunteers who offered service for Olympic Games. Actually, an

increasing number of people become volunteers in China every year.

Volunteering actions are of tremendous benefits to both those in need and

the society. Olympic Games are a good example. As is known to all, volunteers

played an active role in Beijing Olympic Games. Without them, it would be a

tough task to hold this un-precedent Olympic Games. Therefore, we can say that

Spring Festival evening party last night,I go to the village school

volunteer,start time is 5:00,end is at 7:30.In the process,I first task was to

check standing in the first stage,help the teacher is writing on the card

1,2,3,4...Such as Numbers,to the guests when lottery drawing;The second task is

at the end of the party,help push door,convenient for people to leave.

Dennis school the teacher told us that the volunteers are very hard,because

they only work,but cant see,my brothers and sisters and volunteers I insist in

the end,although there is a little lazy,but warned by the teacher once,I havent

made a mistake.

Finally,the teachers give us volunteers score,my score is 9 points,10

points,10 points,although the score is high,but I also want to continue to work

hard!

Should Class Attendance be Required?

Nowadays required class attendance is very common at colleges and universities. Most people accept ti as a necessary policy t ensure the normal teaching order and create a good study atmosphere. Besieds, they think it is a good urge for those students who lack self-discipline.

However, still some others do not agree this argument. In their opinion, rigid attendance policies do not benefit students studies. A student may have to give up a lecture which he finds bital to his studies simply because he dare not run the risk of being penalized for his absence of his course. Besides, they say there is no proven correlation between attendance and performance.

As for me, I am in favor of the latter opinion. Required class attendance may secure one hundred percent attendance for a course, but it does not make much sense. A student may never be absent in a course, but who knows whether or not he is just sistting there daydreaming all the time. Therefore, a student should allowed to decide for himself whether an in-class wxperience is worthwhile.
