这个故事中的华歆刚开始对于别人的请求犹豫不决，看上去似乎不近人情，王朗的表现更贴近喜欢的答案。但是，后来追兵到来情况紧急时，那个想抛弃那个人的真正寡情人却是王朗！关键时刻，心里只想着自己，没有责任心，太自私。而华歆，虽一开始拒绝，但一旦答应了就坚持到底，这说明他既是一个重诚信、守承诺的君子，又是一个遇事深思熟虑、稳重靠谱的人。

子曰：“信近於义，言可复也。”就是说，只有合理的的承诺，才有实现的可能。承诺之前必须深思熟虑，量力而行，不能为了沽名钓誉而轻易许下承诺；而一旦做出承诺，就必须负责到底，因为承诺即意味着责任。
