An essential quality for young people is diligence.Nowdays,the issue on the

most important personal quality of young people is highly debatable,and ideas

vary from peerson to person. Some would claim that confidence is the most

essential. But for my part,the most essential quality for young people is

diligence that helps us a lot.

Diligence enables us to academic results. As we all know,academic results

requires lots of researches. An ancient calligraphy,named Wang Xizhi,devoted

lots of his time practicing writing. As is known to us all,he dried his pool

with his writing brush day after day. Though diligence,he became the greatest

calligraphy,finally.

Deligence helps us to achieve better scores in school. Last semester,one of

my fellow students failed to pass the Listening cours. In fact, questions set in

that paper were not very difficultt. If she had spent a little more time

listening rather than watching TV at her dorm,she could have passed the exam. On

the other hand,one of my roomates worked hard every day and got a high

Jane Eyre is a young orphan being raised by Mrs. Reed, her cruel, wealthy aunt. Once at the Lowood School, Jane finds that her life is far from idyllic. The school’s headmaster is Mr. Brocklehurst, a cruel, hypocritical, and abusive man. Brocklehurst preaches a doctrine of poverty and privation to his students while using the school’s funds to provide a wealthy and opulent lifestyle for his own family. At Lowood, Jane befriends a young girl named Helen Burns, whose strong, martyrlike attitude toward the school’s miseries is both helpful and displeasing to Jane. After teaching for two years, Jane yearns for new experiences. She accepts a governess position at a manor called Thornfield, where she teaches a lively French girl named Adèle. The distinguished housekeeper Mrs. Fairfax presides over the estate. Jane’s employer at Thornfield is a dark, impassioned man named Rochester, with whom Jane finds herself falling secretly in love. She saves Rochester from a fire one night, which he claims was started by a drunken servant named Grace Poole. But because Grace Poole continues to work at Thornfield, Jane concludes that she has not been told the entire story. Jane sinks into despondency when Rochester brings home a beautiful but vicious woman named Blanche Ingram. Jane expects Rochester to propose to Blanche. But Rochester instead proposes to Jane, who accepts almost disbelievingly.

The wedding day arrives, and as Jane and Mr. Rochester prepare to exchange their vows, the voice of Mr. Mason cries out that Rochester already has a wife. Mason introduces himself as the brother of that wife—a woman named Bertha. Mr. Mason testifies that Bertha, whom Rochester married when he was a young man in Jamaica, is still alive. Rochester does not deny Mason’s claims, but he explains that Bertha has gone mad. He takes the wedding party back to Thornfield, where they witness the insane Bertha Mason scurrying around on all fours and growling like an animal. Rochester keeps Bertha hidden on the third story of Thornfield and pays Grace Poole to keep his wife under control. Bertha was the real cause of the mysterious fire earlier in the story. Knowing that it is impossible for her to be with Rochester, Jane flees Thornfield.

Penniless and hungry, Jane is forced to sleep outdoors and beg for food. At last, three siblings who live in a manor alternatively called Marsh End and Moor House take her in. Their names are Mary, Diana, and St. John （pronounced “Sinjin”） Rivers, and Jane quickly becomes friends with them. St. John is a clergyman, and he finds Jane a job teaching at a charity school in Morton. He surprises her one day by declaring that her uncle, John Eyre, has died and left her a large fortune: 20,000 pounds. When Jane asks how he received this news, he shocks her further by declaring that her uncle was also his uncle: Jane and the Riverses are cousins. Jane immediately decides to share her inheritance equally with her three newfound relatives.

St. John decides to travel to India as a missionary, and he urges Jane to accompany him—as his wife. Jane agrees to go to India but refuses to marry her cousin because she does not love him. St. John pressures her to reconsider, and she nearly gives in. However, she realizes that she cannot abandon forever the man she truly loves when one night she hears Rochester’s voice calling her name over the moors. Jane immediately hurries back to Thornfield and finds that it has been burned to the ground by Bertha Mason, who lost her life in the fire. Rochester saved the servants but lost his eyesight and one of his hands. Jane travels on to Rochester’s new residence, Ferndean, where he lives with two servants named John and Mary.

At Ferndean, Rochester and Jane rebuild their relationship and soon marry. At the end of her story, Jane writes that she has been married for ten blissful years and that she and Rochester enjoy perfect equality in their life together. She says that after two years of blindness, Rochester regained sight in one eye and was able to behold their first son at his birth.

过了两三个月，妈妈从湖州买来了几本关于课外知识的练习本，我想；我终于有了一个大展身手的好机会了。现在，读过的书正好派上了用场。我做了两三篇以后，我感觉很轻松，那都是课外书的功劳。晚上，我躺在自己的小床上想：这些课外书上的知识这么丰富，那么，在以后的考试中，一定会派上用场的。

以后，我要多读书，争取每次考试都得100分。

It was raining when Tom was on his way home. He opened his umbrella and walked faster. Suddenly he saw an old woman staggering forward with a stick in her hand. She hadnt got an umbrella with her and was wet all over. Tom went up to her and tried to share his umbrella with her. But the old woman was tall and he was too short to hold it high enough. Then he saw the old womans stick and a good idea came to him. He tried hard to tie the stick to the handle of the umbrella. Then the umbrella was long enough for both of them. The old woman thanked him again and again. Then they went on walking home.

在我的书柜中，存放着厚厚薄薄大大小小上百册少儿读物。什么《启蒙》、《红领巾》、《少年时代》、《童话大王》等杂志，《少年百科知识全书》、《西游记》、《三国演义》、《红楼梦》、《爱的教育》等名著。每当有空闲的时候，我都会坐下来捧着书本有滋有味地阅读起来。因为读书让我快乐了，对于我来说读书更是一种享受。

有一次，老师布置数学家庭作业，先写了几道简单的题，大家一看挺容易，有些高兴。后来老师又写了几道题，同学们一看都傻眼了，老师笑笑说：“别着急，回去多翻翻书。联系以前与今天学的知识再想想，老师相信你们能解答出来。”回到家中，我冥思苦想，怎么也做不出这几道题。妈妈说：“你先翻翻书吧。”我就去翻妈妈给我买的《小学生数学疑难解答》，终于翻到了与这几道题相似的题型。于是我就照着书上的解法并结合当天学习的内容，把这几道题做对了，我心中甭提多高兴了，再一次体会到了读书的快乐。

现在，我上五年级了，每次作文讲评时，老师都在班上夸我的作文写得好，因为我用了许多好词好句，而这些好词好句都是我平时读书积累起来的。

读书真好！读书使我开阔了眼界，读书使我头脑丰富，读书使我充满自信，读书使我的生活乐趣无穷。读书真好！我爱读书。

How is it going these days?

I make some new plans for myself. My first resolution has to do with selfimprovement. I want to join an English club to improve my English. I want to get good grades next time. The second is about personal health. I am going to eat less junk food and do more exercise. Finally，I want to learn to take photos in my free time. I will tell my family about my plans so that they can help me.

爸爸常说多阅读，就会增长知识，有所得益。老师也教诲阅读好处多多，说到底就一句话：开卷有益。可我却不知道阅读究竟有什么好，在生活中到底有什么作用。

可是周末的一件事，改变了我的看法。住宅小区的保安每个月只有1800元的工资，前天因打瞌睡而被业主投诉，面临着被解雇的境地。保安工作繁重辛苦，上班时间也很长，但普遍收入并不高。难道这是因为他们没认真读书，文化水平不高而造成的？

爸爸告诉我，虽然说职业没有高低贵贱，但不可否认的是，保安从事的是简单的劳动，没有什么技术含量。台湾作家龙应台曾对儿子安德烈说：“孩子，我要求你读书用功，不是因为我要你跟别人比成绩，而是因为，我希望你将来会拥有选择的权利，选择有意义、有时间的工作，而不是被迫谋生。当你的工作在你心中有意义，你就有成就感。当你的工作给你时间，不剥夺你的生活，你就有尊严。成就感和尊严，给你快乐。”

人类创造的知识财富，如同浩瀚的海洋，博大精深。如果总是过于被动地去读书，往往是体会不到读书的乐趣。古今中外有成就的人，都喜欢阅读，并善于从书中吸取营养，从而走上了成功之路。让我们养成阅读的好习惯，一生都与好书相伴吧！
