他们发现垃圾桶边有很多垃圾，果核、塑料袋、瓜子皮，一只只飞舞的苍蝇，还有一股臭臭的味道，闻到这股味道之后，大家有的捂着鼻子快速通过，有的把手放在鼻子前面不停地扇动，都想快点离开。

这时，小红对小明说：“你等我一下。”说罢，小红就弯下腰小心翼翼地把垃圾放回垃圾桶，小红的手上沾满了脏东西了。还有一些不明液体，让小红直冒冷汗。她的衣服也粘上了污垢。这时有几个人过路人来了，他们对小红指手画脚，小红也不理他们，继续捡着垃圾。

一旁的小明虽然没有去捡垃圾，但脑子里在想，我能做些什么吗?他眉头紧皱，大脑飞速运转。这些垃圾在垃圾桶旁，说明扔垃圾的人是有环保意识的，可为什么没有扔进垃圾桶里面呢?小明越想越不明白，越想越想不通，怎样才让人不乱扔垃圾呢?

这时，小明眼前一亮，想到了一个好办法。他把书包里图画本和马克笔拿出来，撕下一张白纸，用马克笔在上面写上“文明只差一步”几个大字。又拿出胶水把那张纸贴在垃圾桶旁最显眼的地方，确保来扔垃圾的人能看到才满意。一边的小红也把垃圾收进了垃圾桶里，看着没有垃圾的垃圾桶周边，自豪极了，不由地互相竖起了赞扬的大拇指。

这件事告诉了我们，生活中有很多不起眼的小事，但就是这些不起眼的小事，代表着一个人的修养与品质。有一些事做到比做好只差一步，可就是这一些不起眼的小事，还是有很多的人不想做。生活一小步，文明一大步!
