北京是一座有着悠久历史的古城，城内古迹多如繁星，其中最耀眼。最璀璨的就要数故宫了。故宫又称紫禁城，是典型的具有中国特色的古代宫殿群，也是是世界上最大，保存最完整的皇宫。它和凡尔赛宫。白金汉宫。白宫并称为四大宫，是中华文化的瑰宝。
故宫是清明两朝的皇宫。共有14个明朝皇帝和10个清朝皇帝住在这里。它坐落在北京市中心，西有碧水粼粼的中南海，东有十王府街，北有天然屏障景山(原为北京城制高点)。站在位于景山最高峰的万春亭看故宫，可以看到故宫的全貌——那简直是故宫的海洋。
