但父亲为了省钱，自己到200多里外的枣庄用胶车（木制独轮橡胶轱辘）去推碳（一车在600斤上），到20里外的集市上把瓜干卖掉买回豆子。其中有一回推碳，有人捎信给我母亲说在苍山县城西下坡时，父亲被后面推碳的人把脚撞伤了，人家要送他去医院治疗，他死活不同意，给钱也不要，非得自己推着往家赶。大哥迎到后，还是坚持自己推着让大哥拉着，回到家中，父亲的鞋已经撕开用绳子绑着，脚脖肿的比腿粗，撞他的人又拿着几个鸡蛋过来看望他，他让人家把鸡蛋拿回去换盐吃，说歇两天就好了。自己却不舍得去治疗，用艾叶（一种中草药，老百姓家里一般都有）灸了十多天才敢下地，从此给他留下了脚疼的后遗症。

好景不长，生产队安排父亲从事粉条生产，上半夜洗地瓜或瓜干，下半夜磨成糊过滤成粉，白天晒干，然后就是做成粉条出售，或者用上面的粗粉做成凉粉分给社员吃。那是我永远忘不了的一件事，我去生产队叫父亲回家吃饭，正好刚做出来凉粉，父亲正要锁门离开，这时生产队长过来了，让父亲切一块凉粉给他吃。他大口大口的吃着，我直瞪瞪的看着，突然“哇”的一声哭了起来。队长抬了一下眼皮，腺（就是哭的意思）什么腺，想吃就吃一块！而父亲却把我轰走了，从那以后，再也不让我到他那里去了。
