Yuandan is the first day of the lunar calendar. It is the day when the earth has circled the sun for one round and is beginning another circling. It represents a new beginning when people send off the old days and welcome the new ones. As the first day of the year, Yuandan has been considered to be the most important festival since the ancient times.

Customs

1. Kaisui(beginning of the year): According to the Chinese traditional custom, starting from haishi(9p.m. to 11p.m.)of the last evening of the twelfth lunar month, each family must prepare offering s to deities at the altar. At the same time, they too prepare food for the New Year day: The whole family will then stay awake together to attend to the year(called shou sui). After haishi, zishi(11p.m. to 1a.m.)will come, and this is the arrival of New Year(Yuandan). At this moment, people begin the celebration with fireworks. Vegetarian and sweet foods will then be placed are the altar for offerings, and incense be burned to welcome the deities. If the direction of the "fortune deity" is at the "ill position", people will choose to receive "happy deity" or "noble deity" instead.

2. There is an apparent difference in the custom of food taking on Yuandan between the Chinese in the northern and southern regions. The northern Chinese has the habit of taking jiao zi(dumpling made of flour with vegetable and meat wrapped inside). Some people may put a sweet or a coin inside jiao zi, hoping to have a sweet year after tasting the sweet and a wealthy year after tasting the coin. on the other hand, the southern Chinese have the taboo for killing on Yuandan. Therefore, they do not take meat in tee morning of Yuandan, so as to avoid bloodshed or mutual slaughter. In order to evade misfortune, they have the first meal of this day without meat. Instead, they take vegetarian food for the sake of virtue.

3. What is special during the New Year is that parents or elders will distribute red packets(ang pao or ya sui qian)to the children. People in the ancient times were more particular in giving away the red packets: the distribution took place on the eve of New Year so that the kids could suppress the past year and enter the New Year. Ya sui has the meaning of overcoming the unpredictable future. Representing the wishes for the healthy psychological growth of the children, ya sui qian symbolises the elders hope to see their children overcome all the unpredictable elements brought by the "year".

这个狗妈妈当得真是太了不起了。

我们小区里有一只狗，它全身都是白色的，眼晴像一块小橡皮，喜欢摇尾巴，我叫它“大白”。

大白很贪玩，几乎天天出去玩，玩个六七个小时也可以不回家。大白最喜欢玩玩具，它的玩具有小球、鸡毛、假骨头……但大白最喜欢玩的还是小球。

有一次，我在小区散步，突然一个小球像一颗子弹一样飞过来。我捡到手上看了一会，原来是大白想和我玩球啊！我丢球，大白就去捡球，几十回合了，一开始还不分上下，但后面我只能甘拜下风，我开始累了，大白仍乐此不疲。我使劲力气丢远点儿，几分钟后大白又找到了。

还有一天，一只大黑狗大摇大摆的走到了大白的面前，我赶紧走到大白的后面。大白在用愤怒的眼睛瞪着这只大黑狗，我才知道是这只狗来挑战大白，它是想要得到大白的地盘。此地不疑久留，我就跑到一棵树的后面当一个吃瓜群众看着好戏。几十个回合的打斗早已白热化了，它俩不分上下，我趁机丢了一根假骨头，让另一只狗分神。大白立即一抓，终于胜利了。这只大黑狗灰头土脸的离开了。

我记得还有一次出奇的事，我居然发现大白在捉一只小老鼠，抓老鼠本是猫的活，但大白出于好奇就想抓老鼠玩玩。真是狗拿耗子——多管闲事啊！大白左抓右抓，就是抓不着老鼠。急得它围在老鼠钻进去的地方转圈圈。

As is known to us,it is very harmful to spent too much time playing games on the internet.

Firstly,it is an enormous waste of your precious time.As a student,we are supposed to concentrate our attention on our studies.Secondly, it does great physical harm to your if you are stay up so often.You are likely to suffer from body imbalance as a result of exhaustion.Thirdly,your mental health will be seriously affected,too.If you completely immerse yourself in the unreal world and deviate yourself from your parents and friends,you will end up feeling lonely and isolated in the real word.

I hope someone who likes playing computer games will manage to control this problem and shift your attention to your lessons.Try to take exercises and communicate with others more often.In this way,you will live a more colorful and fruitful life.
