他将书包拎起，背在胸前，慢慢地走出教室，站在教学楼的屋檐下。

雨声充斥在耳畔。他从包里取出外套，遮在脑袋上。犹豫了一下，又拿下来盖住了不防水的帆布书包。

他迈开双腿，大步冲进雨中，向家所在的方向飞奔。大雨毫不留情地淋湿了他的校服，他的黑发，水珠模糊了他的视线。

他伸手想要拂去脸上的水珠，却发现越抹越湿，因为他的胳膊上，有大颗大颗的水珠在不停地沿着手臂往下淌。

H扶着自家公寓楼下的大门把手，一边喘气，一边伸手在包里掏钥匙。掏到钥匙，他迅速打开门，飞也似的冲进楼道。

不远处停靠的银色汽车底下，一只小黑猫，朝着他消失的方向望了半晌，慢慢地将被雨水淋湿的小脑袋缩了回来。

看那桂树下，只留残花满地，冬青的叶子却显得愈加肥大了。

1．词语选择的重要性

在The Right Word at the Right Time的“序言”中，编者对词语选用的重要性作了一个很好的比喻：“Using the right word at the right time is rather like wearing appropriate clothing for the occasion：

it is a courtesy to others，and a favor to yourself-a matter of presenting yourself well in the eyes of the world."

显然，说话或写文章时用词适当比穿着适当难度大得多，因而也具有更大的重要性。在我国，古人写文章时常为一个词语的选用具思苦想，因而有“语不惊人死不休”的说法。

成语“一字值千金”也说明了选择词语的极端重要性。有时“一字之差”造成令人遗憾的败笔，或招致成千上万的经济损失。这些反面的教训也告诉我们必须重视词语选用的问题。

2．词语选择的可能性

实际上，我们每个人的脑子里都有了一个或大或小的词库，只要我们肯去发掘，往往可以得到更好的表达方式。这是我们做好词语选用的主观条件。

从客观条件广看，我们有各种类型的词典和参考书，只要我们平时多翻译、多阅读，写作时勤查考，就会在词语选用上不断进步。当然，一部好词典也不会毫无缺点，更难以面面俱到，因此在这里我们应牢牢记住著名英国作家、评论家和辞书编纂家Johson的话：

Last summer holiday, I went to Beijing for a week. The first day when I took off at the capital airport , it gave me the first feeling was cleanand tidy. The people in Beijing were very friendly. T he second day, I visited Beijing city. I went to the WangFujing Ave , I tasted many famous snacksand Beijing Roast Duck, they are very delicious. I also went to the XinDongfang square, it was a very big shopping mall, it took me about half an hour to walk between two doors. I can saw many famous brands: Cucci, Chanel, Rolex, Seiko, even the new Audi cars. It made me really want to stay in Beijing .The third day I visited the Tian’anmen Square, and it’s very beautiful. And the Chang’an Ave is wide ,straight and clean. The forth day, I went to the Forbidden City. It made me felt the emperor ’ s royal mausoleum was very luxury. The fifth day I went to the Summer Palace, I went boating there. The sixth day, I visited the Great Wall, it’s very terrific, this great architectural complex told us how clever the Chinese people are ! T he last day, I visited the Beijing University ----one of the topest universities of China . There are many famous people were graduated t here.

That’s a happy travel. In the future, I want to visit many countries. This is my dream.

雨，又在下了。我裹紧身上略显单薄的衣衫，可这并不能抵挡迎面而来的寒意。

这不似雨水时节的细雨绵绵，亦没有夏至时狂风骤雨的那般果决，就这么旁若无人的下着。雨声溅落在窗台上，清脆悦耳，分外动听。凛冽的冷风夹杂着丝丝的水汽吹过来，径直要吹到骨子里去，凉意便从四肢蔓延到心里，为这秋天上了一抹凉。也有过风和日丽的晴天，但那璀璨的太阳只肯在我们上过几节课之后，才显露出它本来的面目，这使得本就不算温暖的秋日，更让人感到寒冷。

秋雨已经下过几轮，一波又一波冷空气接连袭来，原本堪称毒辣的"秋老虎"，都变得和煦起来。每到秋分时节，我会想起那些曾在地下隐忍了许多年月的蝉，他们等待了多个四季，只为有朝一日能够引吭高歌。待到秋风拂落，我会惊叹它们所带来的欢歌，会赞赏他们直面死亡的精神，会惋惜他们的即将陨落。但即使是在落叶飘零的时候，枯寂的世界也会迸发出一点一点新的希望。在一层秋雨过后，挑一个不算寒彻骨的日子，搬一把椅子出来，坐在树下看得到很高很高的湛蓝的天色，听得到蓝天下大雁飞过天际的回声。亦或是将视线投至草丛一带，可以见上那独自散发着芬芳的夕颜，一簇簇花朵争相开放，它在萧条的秋色之中展露锋芒。还有那默默静立的几根疏疏落落的枯草，自然而然地也能够领略到周围蔓延着的十分的秋意。

把寒露悄过，也已不再是微凉了。梧桐叶一落便知秋，伴随着梧桐叶落的同时，刺骨的寒风已然袭来。凭借着这寒冷，便可以感受到秋在未来临之前便已结束，一层雨落，世界静默，只在心里惦念着一层的秋雨，一层的凉。

与静默之中，秋未绽放便已凋谢，谨以此，至于我悄然已逝的秋天。

I was very interested in your advertisement in todays edition of The Evening Post and I should like to apply to be a member of the Amazon Expedition team.

I am twenty-three years old and have an honors degree in Botany from Bath University. Since leaving university I have been working in a research laboratory but my contract comes to an end in six weeks. I would particularly like to join the expedition for the opportunity it would give me to study the plant life of the area.

周瑜说：“诸葛亮的神机妙算，我真比不上他！”

秋天的雨，是清丽的。清澈而又闪亮，仿佛天上的玉泉，似乎要洗净天地间一切的尘埃。雨清爽而又干净，在灯光的照射下，闪耀着清亮的光辉，一片片闪烁，一片片晶亮，绘出了无边的光华。一片落叶在雨中飘然而落，落在地上，落在雨中。雨还没停，继续飘飘洒洒地落下;而雨中的落叶，仿佛是镶上了一层水晶，在雨中闪亮着。

周瑜见诸葛亮很有才干，心里很妒忌，所以要诸葛亮三天造十万支箭。

前两天不见诸葛亮有什么动静，直到第三天四更的时候，诸葛亮偷偷把鲁肃请了出来，说要一起去取箭。快到曹军水寨的时候，雾很大，诸葛亮下令把船头朝西，船尾朝东，一字摆开，又叫船上的军士一边擂鼓，一边大声呐喊。

曹操听到鼓声和呐喊声，就说：“江上雾很大，敌人忽然来攻，我们看不清虚实，不要轻易出动。只叫弓弩手朝他们射箭，不让他们近前。”

曹操于是从旱寨调集来六千名弓弩手，一万多名弓弩手万箭齐发，箭如雨下，朝江边射去。不大一会儿，二十条快船开始偏沉，原来是这边的箭受的太多了，船失去了平衡。诸葛亮又叫人将船头朝东，船尾朝西。使船的两边都能受箭，以此来保持平衡。可见，诸葛亮考虑多么周全啊。

曹军只顾射箭，哪知道会上当。天快亮时，二十条快船顺风顺水而下，要追也来不及了。

当船靠岸的时候，五百名军士正好来搬箭，鲁肃见了周瑜，告诉了他诸葛亮借箭的经过，周瑜长叹了一声，说：“诸葛亮神机妙算，我真比不上他。”

周瑜看见诸葛亮挺有才干，心里很妒忌。

有一天，周请诸葛亮商量军事，让诸葛亮在十天之内造好十万只箭。诸葛亮说：“三天造完，我愿意立下军令状。”

鲁肃对周瑜说：“三天造十万只箭，诸葛亮在说假话吧？”周瑜说：“是他自己说的。我可没有逼他。我的吩咐军匠们，叫他们故意延迟。到了三天，看他怎么办。你去探听探听，看他有什么打算，回到报告我。”

诸葛亮向鲁肃要了二十条船，还在船上了些东西。诸葛亮给鲁肃不要他给都督说借船的事情

鲁肃回去了，果然不提借船的事，只说了一些别的事。

这时候江上雾很大，诸葛亮让船头朝东，船尾朝西，让军士擂鼓呐喊，鲁肃吃惊地说：“如果曹兵出来怎么办。”诸葛亮笑着说：“江上雾大，曹操不会派兵出来。”

曹操听见了鼓声和呐喊声，派了弓弩手射箭，很快船的一侧就射满了箭，诸葛亮又让船头朝东，船尾朝西，仍旧擂鼓呐喊，天渐渐的亮了，船上也插满了箭，诸葛亮让船驶回南岸。

周瑜长叹一声：“诸葛亮的神机妙算，我真比不上他”

周瑜要和曹操打仗，就明知故问问诸葛亮：“说在水上打仗用什么最好？”诸葛亮回答周瑜：“说用箭最好。”而且他还能在三天之内造好箭，还立下了军令状。

诸葛亮让鲁肃准备了20条船，每条船上有三十名军士，船用幔子遮起来，一千多个草把子。还不能让都督知道。

诸葛亮和鲁肃坐在船上去曹营的的方向，船都按照顺序摆放开了，曹操让手下开始射箭，箭全部都射到了草把子上，诸葛亮又让士兵把船掉过头来，等到船上的箭都射满了之后，诸葛亮又让士兵把船开回东吴，曹操意识到自己上当受骗了，赫然大怒。

而诸葛亮悠然的回到了东吴，周瑜怎么也想不到，诸葛亮能在这么短的时间内有十万只箭，就立刻去见诸葛亮，看见士兵们都在从船上拔箭，他意识到了诸葛亮当时说的话，回来之后，鲁肃还向周瑜说明了诸葛亮向曹操借箭的事情的整个经过。

周瑜感叹道：“我真的是什么都比不过诸葛亮啊！”

我是被一阵什么声音吵醒的？那声音就像有什么人要探访我似的，和着轻盈的步伐。我睁开眼，准备去迎接那晨访者，去迎到满眼似烟似雾的湿润，下雨了。

披件厚衣，我来到窗前，窗外的细雨如同“草色遥看近却无”般的迷蒙。已是入秋了，远处的山，近处的景，无一不在它的润泽之下，使人想起泼墨的山水画。我不由自主地轻叹着，又踱回床边。十五六岁，既阳光又多事的年纪，再加上一个雨天，于是那丝忧愁又上来了。

又是雨把我吵醒了，已不同于方才，这次是带着千军万马来的。我被那雄壮的声音鼓动着，来到凉台上。雨倾盆地泻着，雷在我无所不知的地方愠怒地响着。我笑了，准是天上管水的官太懈怠，惹得天神恼了。硕大的雨滴狠狠砸在地上，但它们溅落的姿势真是漂亮——好似一个个跳芭蕾的小仙女冒出地面来，做一个绝妙的飞跃之后，蓦然倒地，然后，化为一摊柔情的水……我虔诚地放眼苍穹，那里有一个卓越的演讲者，他那感染人心的磅礴气势已驱除我内心的所有惆怅。我不明白，他竟能用他的热烈叩开我的心灵的大门。他在宣讲天地的赞美诗，我已浑然融入进那动人的词句中去。

雨又渐小了，就仿佛歌剧中庞大场面之后的咏叹调一样。我的心也在尽情倾诉它的舒畅。静立于凉台上，任水务肆意扑在脸上、身上，细聆雨之歌，静赏雨之舞，真是既有湿意又有诗意。柔细的雨丝是那般清晰，没有了野炊晨烟相伴的错觉，源源不绝地天空深处抽出来，给这属于我的季节又平添一份情调。那些正在谢幕、退场的角色——落叶的树，泛黄的草，虽然已经倦了，但在我的眼里，竟像是要从根的深处渗出一丝春的绿来。

秋日雨后的天空，蓝得如蓝水晶一般，几片未飘尽的云还挂在天尽头。我的心彻底拂净了，如云一般，也似要透出一般清爽。我微笑着，享受对美妙人生的无限憧憬。我默默得感谢，感谢这秋雨的恩惠。
