周瑜就要和曹军交战，便请来诸葛亮来商议用什么兵器，诸葛亮说：“用弓箭最好。”周瑜想陷害诸葛亮，便让诸葛亮在10天之内造好十万支箭，诸葛亮便说：“十天造好，必误了大事。”诸葛亮便立下了军令状，内容是三天造十万支箭。

诸葛亮便向鲁肃借了20条船，每条船上30名军士，还要一千多个草把子，排在船的两边，船用青布幔子遮住，还让鲁肃不要告诉周瑜。

鲁肃果然没有向周瑜提起借船的事，只是告诉周瑜，诸葛亮造箭没有用任何的材料，周瑜便疑惑了起来。
