聊着聊着，嫂子、弟媳和侄儿们也来了。他们用生疏疏的眼光望着我，说话也没有象对待自己的父母和兄弟那么随便。他们的那种不随便的心理，我是可以理解的，毕竟没有朝夕相处啊。

但是，我这次回来，首先发现兄弟们对我也有明显的生疏感。哥弟们与我说话，似乎都很谨慎，有点拘束的感觉。我寻思着这是为什么，——是不是前几次通电话时，我说话太仓促了？因为他们打电话给我时，恰好每次都碰上我正忙，我不得不简单几句，匆匆忙忙挂了电话。——是不是因为这事计较我了？我想着要在闲聊中找个机会解释解释。

聊着聊着，就聊到了我的工作。我就趁机说起他们那几次打电话的事，便有意解释一番。哥弟们见我这样，大家都笑了，二哥于是说：“别解释了，我们知道你忙，你的工作，我们虽然不完全懂，但我们理解你。你又不是那种无情无义的人，这一点，我们兄弟那个不知道？如果你感觉到我们对你有生疏感，那唯一的原因应该是你还回家少了一点。去年冬天，母亲得了重感冒，以为自己不行了（担心死去），只想你回家一趟，我们兄弟几个商量，认为你工作很忙，别让你分心，于是做了父母的工作，硬是没告诉你。”究竟是亲兄弟啊，不需多说，几句为我着想的体贴话，真让我十分感动。听到这，我似乎明白了，难怪我一进屋，母亲就暗暗掉泪啊！

开始，我还真不明白父母为什么对我也有些客气，我自认为在对待父母的孝敬方面，也并不比在家兄弟们差。每次回来，我都是大包小包总要提来一些；没回家时，打电话，寄钱回来，没让父母在为生活方面、在花零用钱上窘迫过呀！我在寻思，父母对我陌生的原因又何在呢？此时，我才知道，父母并非索求儿子的物质享受，从某种程度上说，长辈的精神安慰甚至大于物质上的要求。

傍晚，我与二哥四弟一同散步，也扯到了孝敬老人的话题上。四弟对着我说：“父母亲并不是因为你少给他们吃穿，少给了他们钱用。而是因为你回家少了，安慰体贴的话说少了。我们在家的几个兄弟，虽然从经济上没有你孝敬那么多，可我们就在父母身边转，有事没事问声好，有什么寒暑感冒随时能够关心照顾，自然就没有距离之分，你一年半载回来不了一趟，有时还要隔更长时间。你说父母该是什么感受？父母亲老了，对你的工作可没有我们哥们兄弟那么理解你，说几句埋怨你的话，也是在情理之中啊！”

我大彻大悟了，觉得兄弟们的话说得极是！

我忽然看见了二哥家的那条大花狗，正在前面十来米的地方，瞪瞪地看着我呢！

时间产生距离，这道理再简单不过了！

此时，我的负罪感顿然加大，虽然自己有时身不由己，不能经常回家，但我在想，也不是长期是这样的情形呀！还是自己对父母的关心体贴疏忽了。我想，今后一有空时间，就要多回家看看，多向父母说几句亲热体贴的话语。没回家的时候，可以多通通电话，报报平安，多问声好！

两三天时间一晃而过，转眼我就要离开父母兄弟们了，临走，父母、兄弟、嫂媳和侄辈们都出来送我，一家人的道别自不必说。

我突然注意到那只大花狗也出来了，它不仅没有了我来时的那种狂吠，而且也随着它的主人送我，待我走开了时，它也离开它的主人独自向前送了我几丈远的路程，它走走停停，望望嗅嗅，最后，停住了脚步，望着我慢慢远去……

我分明感觉到，它还是在用一种异样的目光甄别着我。

while fear of death is universal, my worry about death is so overwhelming that there is not a moment passing without my thinking of it. i never bring this up with any other, just because no one will ever realize the seriousness of this problem. i know it very clearly that as long as there is life, there will be death. in addition, though i am still so far away from death, i have been plagued by the thought of it for years. fortunately, the root of my fear of death lies in my overzealous love for life. i am too timid to think of the end of life, when every worldly affair should be thrown away. how can i carry on without friendship, affection, and joy of being alive? i really hate to leave all these behind. to ease my worry about death, i should make the fullest use of this life i now possess. concentration on this life can at least temporally make me forget about death. as a matter of fact, i really don＇t need to worry so much about death, for i already have too much to worry about this life.
