由于土地盐碱化而引起古文明衰亡的最早案例

位于两河流域的美索不达米亚平原，是人类文明最早的发源地之一。在这片肥沃的土地上，古代世界最伟大的三个文明曾经在这里繁荣昌盛。苏美尔、亚述、阿卡德和巴比伦人相继在公元前4000至前2000年间，在这里创造了高度发达的城市文明，令世人叹为观止。然而，这些古文明的发祥地如今却是盐碱泛滥、流沙纵横的不毛之地。

库巴唐”死亡谷”事件

巴西圣保罗以南60公里的库巴唐市，二十世纪八十年代以“死亡之谷“知名于世。该市位于山谷之中，六十年代引进炼油、石化、炼铁等外资企业300多家，人口剧增至15万，成为圣保罗的工业卫星城。企业主只顾赚钱，随意排放废气废水，谷地浓烟弥漫、臭水横流，有20%的人得了呼吸道过敏症，医院挤满了接受吸氧治疗的儿童和老人，使2万多贫民窟居民严重受害。

卡迪兹号油轮事件

Mrs. Wang, my philosophy teacher, sent us to sleep less than ten minutes when she started talking in class. When a head nodded, she would point at the dozing student and made threatening remarks.
