The Festival of the Dead is one of the most important happenings in both Palermo and the rest of Sicily. The second of November is a festival day for the children of Palermo as, according to tradition,they were made to believe that their dead relatives would return the night before and leave them traditional sweets and cakes on the table (Martorana fruit, which is almond paste made into the shape of different fruit)。 They would also receive puppets of boiled sugar and toys. Its one way of keeping the memory of their dead relatives and loved ones alive.

万圣节其实不是基督教的节日。2500年前，爱尔兰的凯尔特人(Celts)以10月31日为一年的最後一日，11月1日是新一年的开始，也象徵冬天的来临。

凯尔特人相信死亡之神Samhain在10月31日的晚上会和鬼魂一起重返人间，寻找替身。因此他们燃点火炬，焚烧动物以作为死亡之神的献礼。还会用动物的头或皮毛做成的服饰打扮自己，发出古怪的声音，使死亡之神认不出自己，避过灾难。这就是今天万圣节化妆舞会的由来。过了当晚，鬼魂回到阴间，一切回复平静。

基督教兴起，教徒沿袭万圣节传统，万圣节的意义慢慢改为纪念为献身於神而死亡的人(holies)。

附带一提，11月2日是墨西哥的鬼节(Los Dias de los Muertos, Day of the Dead)。当天家家户户都烘烤动物造型的面包和煮鸡肉等食物，并在供桌上面放置玩具，以期待早逝的孩童们回到家中玩耍。也可以陈列鲜花、 水果、 照片和彩绘的骷髅头，接待仙逝长辈。

墨西哥人认为，鬼魂和人一样需要及时行乐，所以鬼节宛若一场嘉年华会，人们带着面具到处游走，吃骷髅形状的糖，面包上还装饰有鬼的形像。黄昏时刻，全家人一起到墓园清理墓地，妇女们或跪或坐整夜祈祷，男人们交谈或唱歌，在子夜中烛光忽闪忽灭充满了整个墓园，游唱歌者为已逝亡者的灵魂高歌吟唱。

细细掐指算来，在加拿大已有五年之余。在硕士毕业典礼上，回首看看五年来路上留下的那些深深浅浅的足迹，失败也好，成功也罢，不管抱头痛哭还是开怀大笑，现在看来却都是那么美好和珍贵。

到了加拿大之后，我选择住在一个外国人家里，她家离学校比较远，我每天都要转两班车才可以到达学校，颇费功夫。那时又是冬天，满天飘雪，刚开始还为加拿大的皑皑雪景而惊叹不已，后来就恨死了这未曾停过的雪。早上出门的时候鼻子轻轻一吸气，就感觉冰柱般的从鼻孔一直结到鼻梁。

英语的学习也并不一帆风顺，到了学校就要参加一种叫CAEL的考试，不同于托福和雅思，CAEL更加实用。此种语言考试成绩分为5级，入学考试我居然只考到2级，心里甚是难过。在国内已经有了一定的英语基础，自己深知2级不是我的真实水平，只是因为对考试类型不熟悉所造成的，但是在口语上还是有很大的差距。所以每天都记下生单词，坐车上学的时候就在公车上慢慢复习，上课也更是倍加认真。但却得不到质的飞跃，朋友们见我着急就劝我：“想一口吃个胖子是绝对不可能的”。这时才真正地意识到每日的转车颠簸也不过只是“劳其体肤”而已，学习语言才是真正的“苦其心志”啊。

很快又一个冬天来到了，12月份的考试弄得我很紧张。进考场的时候很是信心百倍，不过真的是应验了中国的一句古话“骄兵必败”啊。作文写跑题了，而专业课的考试也不尽人意，只考了68分，实在是汗颜。那个时候是真的一点信心也没有了。我躲进房间，想自己一个人大哭一场。结果女房东还是进来了，抱着我说：“今年的圣诞礼物我知道你想要的是考过语言，但是圣诞老人也是会遇到塞车的，迟一点就会收到的”。我知道我哭的时候房东们特别心疼，于是收起眼泪故作坚强。但是晚上还是偷偷哭了，心里暗暗说，到底是哪个警察敢拦圣诞老人的车？

圣诞过后不久，又开学了，我又选修了一门专业课，从哪里摔倒的总要从哪里爬起来。心里压力很大，但总是默默的，不想让房东担心，也不想让国内的父母担心。不过好像圣诞老人要给我的特殊礼物真的是慢慢的来了，专业课比起去年的学习顺利多了，期中考试的成绩名列前茅，论文也得了很高的分数。4月份的语言考试，我一遍遍地告诫自己一定要细心审题。在那么多年的语文基础教育下，还能跑题，这真不是一般的丢人。当然结果也可想而知，收到了那份我期盼已久的圣诞礼物。回家后，房东叫了我最喜欢的外卖pizza，又开了好多葡萄酒。

我的一位加拿大老师给我说过这样一段话：“在你的一生中，七八十年的时间大概都会在中国度过，都会和中国的朋友走过，都会在中国的文化中穿过；但是在你的一生中或许只有这三年的时间，你是在加拿大度过，是和加拿大的朋友分享，也是在加拿大的文化中成长！”

“过年好!过年好啊!”几声吉祥话第一个飘入我的耳朵里。这就是我这几天寒假生活的最深刻的印象：热闹!大年初一，我从热乎乎的被窝里爬出来，经没有感到任何的寒冷。放眼望去，满村红彤彤的一片——放过的爆竹纸皮、家家高挂的大红灯笼、还有满大家走着的穿着红唐装的乡亲们，喜庆的气氛随之即来。我穿好了衣服，和家人们一起吃热腾腾的早饭。普通的稀粥、咸菜，还有昨夜剩下的饺子，全家人在一起吃，也格外的香。刚吃完饭，就有人过来拜年。他们脸上洋溢着笑容，双手握在一起，向大家拜年，说着吉祥话。走前还往小孩手中塞压岁钱。小孩儿们则是瞪大眼睛，看着大人们推推嚷嚷时红包的位置，最终接到红包以后，也不敢擅自妄为，一切都看父母的眼色行事。

寒假和暑假最大的不同，就是在寒假里会过新年，亲人重聚，享受天伦之乐。今年过年，我远在外地姨、哥哥、弟弟们，都来到了我们家。我们家的人气一下子增高了，并且过了个热热闹闹的兔年。大表哥带回来优异的学业成绩;二表哥带回来适合的工作;小弟也带回来了口才班的学习成果。大家各有所得，互相交流着，十分融洽。这也许就是过年时的特殊气氛吧。

我过了一个愉快，平凡，但有充实的寒假。我乐在其中。

今天的天气真奇怪，早晨还是多云的天。到了下午6点钟左右，天边渐渐泛起一层薄薄的雾气，笼罩着远处的山头。我还以为是夜色朦胧了天边。隔了五分钟，当我再次伏在窗边眺望远方时，意外地发现窗玻璃上多了一些颗粒状的小水珠，细细端详，每一颗小水珠里都包含着一团小小的黑色灰尘微粒，我好生奇怪。再放眼往远处看，高大的楼房仿佛系上了一条条轻柔的白纱，霓虹灯点缀的彩带也越发缥缈起来;停车场上过往的车子也开启了雾灯，射出的灯光如同一根根光柱，很耐看。天渐渐暗了下来，窗上的水珠越集越多，慢慢地，小水珠吮吸得越来越大。窗外的一切是那么的静谧美好，我不禁也被深深吸引了……

正当我陶醉之时，一道闪电划过天空，伴随着雷电，大雨倾盆而下。雨水拍打着玻璃，尘土也被冲刷得干干净净。刚刚的雾蔼，也被吹得没有了影子。咦，这不就是自然书上所说的雾霾现象吗?我翻出家里一本厚厚的《十万个为什么》，哈，终于找到了——对，这就是雾霾!它是因为空气中悬浮着大量的烟、尘等微粒遇到水气而形成的混浊现象，使视线模糊并导致能见度下降。怪不得窗玻璃上有星星点点的微粒，原来是空气中的灰尘在作怪啊!

因为现在空气污染越严重，所以雾霾天气就越多，危害也就越大。有时会使汽车不能开，飞机不能降落。要减少雾霾天气，我们必须要保护环境，多植树多种草，提高空气质量，为人类造福。

有一天，我把一个有30厘米高，直径20厘米的白色大纸炮放在雪堆里，它的威力比小型手榴弹的还大，我用火机点燃了火线，然后我很快的跑进了屋里，1、2、3，轰的一声，好像大地都被震得颤动起来，我跑上去一看，雪堆上有一个很大的洞，比我想象得还要大。我们又把水雷往水里里一扔，很大一个水花一飞冲天，威力无边，把水面的冰都炸得飞了起来，水面上出现了壮观的景象，很多黑色的烟从水而起。

在老家过年真开心，我可以放炮，还可以率领很多童子军，我在老家的这几天玩得很开心。
